Version 3.0 for Direwolf Followers has been released.

Check the changelog for details. Every Direwolf is now a Follower/Mount hybrid.

    Have fun!

This mod is amazing, thank you for creating this. Boy they are fast though.

If you use Amazing Follower Tweaks and Convenient Horses , you should read this.
    1. Make sure AFT is BELOW direwolf mod and probably most follower mods in your load order
    2. If you ride a direwolf while you have a horse, the horse will leave. If you have a humanoid follower, they will now ride your horse (this once). You can still walk up to the horse and ride it to reclaim it as your mount. The horse will leave when your follower gets off, or your tell your follower to do something which makes them get off. You can find your horse (still owned by you) at the stables you bought it at, you may have to wait 24hrs after fast traveling there.
    3. You will notice that once you ride a direwolf, it stays in "mount mode" and by defult settings won't attack anything and will run from a fight. You can use the "I need to make some decisions" option at the bottom of the dialogue options to fix this. Go through each setting and change it to what you desire (follow/combat options etc) so you can make the direwolf assist you in combat again if you wish.
    4. If you want both the original direwolf dialogue options AND convenient horses dialogue, you must select "I need to make some decisions" > "(Ground Control Gestures)" > "Tap once to ride, Tap twice to speak". Now when you tap once you get the original direwolf dialogue and when you tap twice you get the convenient horses dialogue. Having both dialogue sets allows you to use both the horses sack inventory and the direwolfs' personal inventory. Remember that you have this setting if you go back to using your horse, you will certainly still tap once to ride and tap twice to speak.
Note: Give the game about 5-10 seconds to let you talk to your direwolf again after leaving dialogue.
You cannot gather ingredients while riding a direwolf like you can with a horse (using convenient horses).

Now you have a fighting direwolf that you can train for more speed, stam or endurance from the convenient horses mod.

Hi! My Direwolves won't let me have a Dialogue option. I am stuck on "ride (direwolf name)." I have no mods that effect my mounts other than this- so I am pretty sure this is a bug directly with this mod OR I am missing something.

Umm not a bug, no, and this is a 3.0 feature not since it was created.

You told the wolf you wanted to ride it. So get on the wolf...

When you get off the wolf, if there's still no dialogue and only the ride option, then you are running into a bug.

That bug is not with this mod though, and can only be caused by altering horse animations or horse sounds, I can't remember which.

Any mod which adds the horse keyword to the wolves out of step would cause that as well. Why someone makes a mod like that I can't say.

Has anyone tested this with True Directional Movement? I can't seem to move the camera around when mounted. Works with a horse but not with the wolves.

    Anything I can check?

When I say I can't move the camera around means it does not fully rotate 360 degrees like it does with regular horses. Am I missing something?

Anyone else's camera set rather high when mounted? Especially during mounted combat?

Not sure if the Direwolves should be able to equip armour, but at least Ghost seems to be able to. Shields, Boots, Jewellery, even modded ones like Pauldrons. Might as well take advantage of that.

Is there a way to get this to work with True Wolves of Skyrim?

I'd have to straight up re-purpose the 3D models and tweak the textures in Photoshop and add them directly to my mod. It won't work with a simple patch or anything. I have considered doing this since the wolves look great, it's just a matter of finding the time to do it.

I'm not sure if the wolves are supposed to be able to turn or not, I dont have any other mount or wolf mods installed, also I can't get them to return to follower mode when I dismount, could you give me some ideas, maybe I'm missing some other needed 'general' mods that I've ignored

Other than that the mod is fantastic, wolves are large and look great, fast as hell too, I just cant turn which causes me to go flying off mountains very hilariously. Its almost dangerous to my health how darn funny it is when we take flight, touch down and i turn into a puddle of Nord on the ground.
Edit: I've figured it out, it was the Immersive movement mod, it changes the movement esp. which I assume yours does as well. Hope there's a fix coming if it can be. I'm gonna be using this one over that anyhow to be honest, not as fast as they were with the other mod but they still cool as hell

I have the same issue as Uragirimonox I try to unmount any of the direwolves after riding them, they don't revert back to followers either, I have tried changing the load order of the mod to priority, tried figuring out any conflicts, nothing seems to be directly a problem.

This is months late of course...

I found out recently that Immersive Movement is incompatible with this mod, I have no idea why yet.

The direwolf mod doesn't change anything about movement or animations. They use a custom skeleton and their own custom direwolf race, just about everything else is based on the regular wolf stuff included with Skyrim and the default keyword for riding on them. My only conclusion so far is that Immersive Movement changes the underlying mechanics of movement/riding in the game which somehow breaks wolves being controllable as mounts. I haven't opened that mod up to have a look, I tend to leave it up to other mod authors to try and resolve such issues. If it was determined the direwolfs need a patch to work with Immersive Movement then I would look into it. I just haven't had time to explore this now that I know which mod is incompatible.

Thanks for sharing your conclusion that Immersive Movement is incompatible.

As for your problem werewolf31, I think it is a similar so I'll mention a different point,

Dismounting makes a specific and named sound effect, my mod watches for the dismounting sound effect to play which triggers the mount to revert to a follower. Do you have any mods that possibly change the name of the sound effect? A mod that alters the name of the sound effect would make it invisible to my mod without a patch to fix it.

Sorry for not responding sooner but at least it's here now to help with future troubleshooting.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to make this mod. I have a question about either possibly tweaking it myself for my own use with tessedit, or perhaps you could upload varients yourself..

is it possible, how owuld I?
Im not sure if Gender is presently assigned to the wolves. How would I assign a gender to them all?
Can names be changed (just in game)
Could I remove all but one of them?
Or give them the wolf keyword, so game thinks of them as wolves vs direwolves?

Sorry I did not respond sooner, I understand your desires may have changed.

Changing names in game is pretty tricky, limited, and can cause problems. Generally better to rename things with CK using a patch I would think. Gender is assigned to the wolves, I believe they were assigned appropriately but it's been a long while and I may have just copy and pasted (it started with Ghost so they would likely be male if I did). You can remove all but one for sure. I don't think there is a wolf keyword but they use their own direwolf race.

Message me with what you're trying to achieve and I could help a lot better.

All the direwolves are there however there's no dialog option to make any of them my follower. I've tried a new save and quicksaving and quickloading.

Direwolves are recruited immediately by pressing the button to talk to one. There's no dialogue option. This is how the stray dog works too in the game.

Once a Direwolf is following you, then dialogue options should appear when you talk to it.

Edit: Direwolves now have a recruiting dialogue and use their own custom follower framework.

Thanx for the new version, now the wolves are visible for me. I still have a small problem. I have two Den's on the World Map, one close to markarth and one close to Whiterun. The Markarth Den is working perfectly but the place where the Whiterun Den was is causing lockups.

That should be fixed with 2.1. I noticed that problem in 2.0 and patched it.

I wonder if it is still there in a new save file?

Yes, with a clean new save i still have the Whiterun Den map marker and still i'm getting a popup that i found the Den. If i'm near to the old entrance than i get a ""To"(load) message and than the game is locking up.

It should be fixed now in v2.2.1.
