Thank you all to the support and for let me be in the hot files again

I wanted to add this little think, this mod retexture was made with real pictures taken from rocks,
I red a lot of comment of people telling me i've never travelled much to see how mountains are, unfortunatly i've been travelling a lot
and of course i know this retexture it's a vision taking from reality,
i live in a country where there are not real mountains only rock hills, a scandinavian northern country
this means i wanted to get that feeling to the game, to me, it fits perfectly for others maybe not
but this is a reason to have different mods with a different point of view
If you like it, enjoy it, if you don't move on!

    i'm tryin darkmoss in 4k

    1) the rocks look more realistic. more tiny particles give it a porous and more natural look
    2) the light particles on the rock create a visual hazard, there is some kind of reflection bouncy light activity going on, that is definitely NOT realistic. (if i take off my Reshade effects, it looks more natural because i have dimmed the overall light, and therefore does not show as much. )
    3) i don't want to have to choose between rock types/moss colors. i'd like Random Rock colorizations possible. i think every rock having dark moss on it, is kind of unrealistic.

    i'm tryin 2k Lightmoss now

    1) the rocks look better, more improved, more porous and realistic than vanilla.
    2) but the moss, the light topical particles are causing Flickering.. a very unacceptable level of flickering not compatible with my eyes enjoyment..

Late reply. I explain why the light sparkles/particles in an earlier post. Has to do with the contrast and specular in the textures and the Skyrim SE renderer. To fix this 'mostly' you can follow the instructions below as well.

For those that want to make adjustments to the textures for their set up, here is how. Process takes about 15 minutes including in game testing. Best place to test is Falkreath area or Riverwood. Simply set up a save in a good place to view the mountains and rocks.

These are such beautiful textures that they are very well worth making the changes.

You can do the same for the other texture options provided as well for instant swapping to see what you like and how they react to your image space set ups and ENB. This process also goes for other things that look off and you want to make adjustments.

    Enjoy!

    Software:
GIMP 2.10.34 (does almost everything better than Photoshop. Especially textures.)
XnConvert (has very good DDS and PNG conversion. Many other excellent conversion formats too.)

    Folder Set Up Recommendations:
    Dark Moss
    - 4k DDS Original
    - 4k DDS Corrected
    - 4k PNG Converted
    - 4k PNG Corrected

    XnConvert:
    - drag all the DDS files from the download here of your choice into XnConvert Input tab.
    - Action Tab...nothing needed.
    - Output Tab...set PNG. Default is fine. You can set how many CPU cores to do this. Up to you. Typical is 1, 2, 4, 6.
    - Once done move the PNG files to the PNG Conveted.

    GIMP:
    - Copy the mountainslab01.png  and  mountainslab02.png  to the PNG Corrected folder.
    - drag mountainslab01.png  into the GIMP window.
    - Menu>Colors>Brightness-Contrast
    - Set Brightness to -25
    - Set Contrast to -10
    - Menu>File>Export As  the name will be the same....overwrite....close and Discard Changes
Note: GIMP's working and internal format is XCF which is what you actually see on the display when editing.
    - Do the same for  mountainslab02.png

Note: Brightness lower is 'adding dust' to the texture. Contrast lower is removing sharpness from the texture. Combining Brightness and Contrast Adds/Subtracts Texture Fog to any type of picture....Photos with a good camera can even almost look 3D doing this. With PBR materials bright spots and sharp textures is grey scaled in regard to Specularity. White is shiny/sparkles and black is muted. If there is not a specific Specular Texture the PBR material will use the Diffuse/Albedo texture to solve the Specularity of the material. So softening a texture will be less sparkle....dustier...while sharpening a texture will have more flickers in the lighter parts of the texture.

    XnConvert:
    - Drag the PNG Corrected two PNG files into the Input Tab.
Note: you Can/Should also convert the other textures like the Normal Maps and Masks here too. Up to you if you want to use the originals here or a modern DDS conversion via XnConvert.
    - Actions Tab....nothing needed.
    - Output Tab...set DDS. XnConvert has excellent DDS support and correctly converts to DDS.
    - Convert then wait until done.
    - Move the new DDS files to DDS Corrected.

    Game Folder:
    \Data\Textures\landscape\mountains
    - Copy the DDS Corrected to this folder and overwrite what is there.
Note: These are loose files so they override and show even in the Creation Kit.
    - Load up your Save and test visually.

Keep the folders on a storage drive for modding that you can make adjustments as needed later.

Thanks for making these. I love the Grey Rust version! Very realistic! Well done!

If you do update these at some point if you could reduce the contrast (adding texture fog) it will help reduce the specularity being rendered (the sparkles from the light spots in the textures being interpreted as things that need to have more sparkle in the material. This is different that Metalness/Roughness). There are a couple ways to deal with this but the texture is the easiest by dulling the bright spots and adding texture fog (reducing contrast slightly).

I was using them but i stopped cuz of one single reason.

-I can see that images are really of good quality but they are edited in some photo programs meaning that Bump maps are way off scale.
For example i get a little flicker on those rocks (using Rudy ENB) and that killed my immersion.

Tried to thinker with the settings but there was no way to fix it in any way, so i stopped using it.
If anybody knows fix or have a same effect pls reply to this comment. :)

All in all really great effort from mod maker. Congrats!!

      Same for me.
Just fyi: I primarily followed that guide after starting this great game once again after ages. -> https://www.sinitargaming.com/skyrim_se.html

RudiENB and this mod makes (all) the Rocks in Caves and outdoor flickering to the extrem.
I truely would like that superb mod, as it gives (2K dark moss) a really nice twist and fits perfectly.
So if anybody could give a hint how to stop that extremly anoying flickering, i would be very grateful

      Hey :)
Very new to modding but also following Sinitar's guide. When enable this mod the mountains and rocks turn completely white and shimmering.

*Majestic Mountains - Skyrim 3D Rocks - Rapid Rocks - Northern Realistic Rocks.

No ENB installed as of yet, and it seems that only MM is affected, all the other stuff from 3D Rocks still looks great. So seems that it's an incompatibility with MM and this mod ?

It's a real shame because the texture looks great, please look into it.

PS :Disabled MM and the effect stays the same. When clicking on the rocks in console I get on a lot of spots " clouddistance01", no idea what this means but I don't get this with the mod disabled. Maybe some brighter mind can explain if this in any way smth meaningful in this case.

Just installed and using the Grey Rust version. Game looks great.

      - Only issue I see is that the Specularity (specular option in the material) is too high. This can be a tricky one especially with higher saturated image spaces....like a lot of exterior lighting overhauls and ENBs. This gives that little sparkle on the brighter spots on the textures. It is how the materials are interpreting the textures then sending that information to the engine renderer for the GPU to draw all the pixels on the display.
(I had to learn all of this for work and working with UE4)

These textures work great Rustic Weathers and Lighting and True Storms....that is it. Very realistic exterior lighting and weathers. RWaL subdues the saturated looks to a more natural light....even when it is in the clear sunny days of Whiterun the light looks....real. Also no need for ENBs.

I realize some peeps like that oversaturated look of ENBs that have very sharp contrasts to assist the simulated 3D but textures in general need to be flatter (less contrast) to work with them.

I've tried other textures out of curiosity to compare these too, but Northern Realistic Rocks is so far the very best texture set so far. Even the 2K version of this mod beats out 4K textures for other mods. Very impressive. This is my GOTO mod for rock textures.

This mod must be the best mod for people who are replaying the game. What a fresh new look on Skyrim! Haven't felt this way since the mod Brown Rocks. Combined with a good ENB, this mod gives me constant orgasm when I'm simply walking around in Skyrim. KUDOS!

Constant Orgasms cracked me up. LOL! I do agree. I do treks most of the time and I see these kinds of rocks on our mountain trails. Very Slippery!

From the legend, L3st4t. Simply the best; not just as mountains, but among the best in-game texture mods of all time.
The mountains of Skyrim, even with other excellent mountain mods, were less than satisfying... UNTIL NOW.

I overwrite Vivid landscapes' mountain rocks with these and add in some other texture/landscape mods, to make Skyrim not only "photorealistic", but also gorgeous and a true pleasure to walk and ride through. Load order gold.

    THESE ROCKS ROCK!
