I got the Ebony Blade and... nothing happened. I then started and worked my way through Lost to the Ages and a few side quests, with the Ebony Blade in my inventory, and... nothing happens. I probably held onto it for at least 1 in-game week. Nothing from Mephala until I entered the Aetherium Forge. Only then is the blade force-equipped, and she decides to talk to me.
I proceed to complete Lost to the Ages and drop the blade into the lava. The blade is destroyed, and... nothing happens. No reaction from Mephala. No quest complete.
The quest was still active and "Decide the fate of the Ebony Blade" was the only thing in my journal for this quest. I continued in-game for a few more days, hoping maybe things would catch up, but it never did. I ended up using the console command provided in the comments (thanks!) to end the quest.
I don't know if it's related, but Stress and Fear is also not working right. Nothing would reduce stress levels (this began prior to beginning The Whispering Door and I had zero luck troubleshooting that) so I had to disable the stress portion in the MCM of that mod. Again, I did this prior to beginning The Whispering Door, but I don't know if it's related.
I tend to assume user error on my part, but I've no clue what I've done wrong. I had this mod and Stress and Fear at the bottom of my load order, fwiw. I'd love to figure out what went wrong so I can try again in a new playthrough.
Regardless, the very small bit I got to do was fun. Endorsed.
I haven't had it for long but the curse and stress aren't working for me either. But it occurred to me that I have ZIM's mod that gives the option to pick 1hand or 2hands when picking it up which is technically another weapon with a different ID, therefore breaking these functions and quests of this mod.
I'll keep an eye out if someone makes a patch cause I like this mod. Until then, I'll just enjoy the "story" part of it.
Yeah, from what I'm seeing Zim's Immersive Artifacts breaks Whispering Door Quest Expansion even by itself... I try to give the thing to the Vigilants both with and without this mod and they say their lines but nothing happens - blade isn't taken away, Mephala doesn't step in to stop me, nothing. Here's hoping someone makes a patch someday.
Would be so cool to have another alternative to destroy it, like giving it to the Vigilants of Stendar [...] I just found out this is what jay's mod does, disregard this.
I have random duos of Vigilants approaching me on the road and following me everywhere post destroying the blade in the Aetherium forge. They dont say anything special and dont force me into dialogue or anything so its not the biggest deal in the world but it does feel like an unfair advantage for me to have two dudes following me around. I suspect they are spawning in to confiscate the blade from me but since I dont have it they are simply following. I checked my journal and the fate of the blade quest is marked as complete and the description says I did indeed destroy it, but I do notice that the objective itself is not marked completed. (No idea if that helps)
Just to throw some extra ideas of how the sword could be handled, here's what i do on my playthroughs:
1. Do Red Eagle quest and open his tomb with his sword 2. Drop Ebony Blade into his tomb 3. Close the gate by removing Red Eagle sword from the pedestal 4. Smelt Red Eagle's Bane instead
Farengar and his puny w*oden door can get bent, now the sword is shielded behind two-ton-rock-slab. Might be considered as a viable option to dispose of it!
