About this mod

Improves playable RS Children by providing Race Compatibility tags, fixed vampirism and optionally more child races

Requirements

Changelogs
Important: Even if you skip the below, read the installation instructions section!

I have a penchant for playing kids in Skyrim, because I find it funny to have a dragonborn that accumulates ridiculous amounts of prestige, power, positions and other things starting with 'p', but is also just in general a little brat. Who's going to tell them to grow up when they literally saved the world?

But while the playable option for RS Children Overhaul is nice, I've also found it has a few issues. Since I fully understand the mod authors choose not to support this option, I've taken it on myself to poke around and provide some handy fixes and additions.

New in 1.2: Actually fixed my derp with beast kids, and added the missing Undead keyword to the elven and beast vampire kids.

Installation instructions:

Step 1: Install RS Children Overhaul as normal. IMPORTANT: Do not check the 'Player Vampire Script Fix' option in the FOMOD! Doing so will break RaceCompatibility and possibly other Vampire-related mods! Naturally, you also need to correctly choose the 'Playable' option.
Step 2: Install RaceCompatibility for Skyrim Special Edition
Step 3: Install optional mods - If you want more than just playable human children, install Your Lost Son. If you also use Armor and Clothing for Kids SE, install that mod too.
Step 4: Install this mod, ensuring you choose the right version.

Optional files:

If you use Aymar and Friends or Realistic Elven Children and intend to use either the Adult Voices or Merged versions of this mod (see below), also download and install the patches that stop the adoptable elves from also having adult voices.

To help conceal neck seams, Your Lost Son has a Cloth Collar equippable - however, by default it's only pre-equipped on the Argonian and Khajiit child. The Cloth Collar Tweak optional file adjusts its description slightly to show that it's for all kids, and gives it a crafting recipe (2 Tundra Cotton at the tanning rack). Works for all child races, regardless of whether you're playing them or not. Requires Your Lost Son.

Version differences:

There are now eight different versions of this mod, all selectable through the handy FOMOD installer. These come in two wider varieties:
-Base versions depend only on RS Children Overhaul and Race Compatibility (with one exception, see below)
-Lost Son versions, obviously, also depend on Lost Son.

Both versions have the same four options:
-Base/Lost Son only, no special options on top
-Adult Voices - choosing this should (If I did it right) make only the playable kids use adult voices. This means that when you Shout, it won't be silent.
-Armor and Clothing for Kids SE - this option provides compatibility for that mod. Obviously, you'll need to have it installed too.
-Merged - this is both the Adult Voices and Armor and Clothing versions merged together.

Recommended mods:

Alternate Perspective or Alternate Start - Live another Life
Race Compatibility Dialogue SSE
Realistic RS Children Overhaul
Realistic Elven Children (Aymar and friends reimagined) - this works just fine with my mod, even the 'Your Lost Son' version, with no patch needed!
SNIFF - Simple No Internal Friendly Fire - Highly recommended if you intend to take your Lost Son kid with you, to help reduce the amount of in-fighting caused by his shouts. It won't always work - I've noticed that in particular, getting clipped by his Unrelenting Force may still aggro them, especially temporary followers - but it'll reduce the amount of times you're have to pacify them.

Caveats and known issues:

While being turned into a vampire works, the game for some reason still won't recognise you as one - this means that you won't be able to feed on anyone, potions
of blood will do nothing, and you won't get the Rising at Dawn quest. If you manage to force the quest to start, Falion still won't have the dialogue to go with it, as he doesn't think you're a vampire. I haven't figured out why this is the case yet, and am looking into it.

VAMPIRE MODS: The above means that I cannot guarantee any compatibility with mods that affect vampirism. They may work, but they're also just as likely to break, and they're also just as likely to not properly recognise the Vampire Kids as Vampires.

Being turned into a werewolf does correctly remove vampirism, however. Additionally, if you happen to be using Undeath Remastered, not only are all the child races fully compatibile and capable of becoming liches, being a lich will also remove vampirism.

When using the Adult Voices or Merged versions, any mod-added kids who don't have their voice type set in their NPC record will use adult voices instead. The mods 'Aymar and Friends' and 'Realistic Elven Children' have patches available here. Any other kids affected by this will need their own patch.

With Your Lost Son, your... well, son will still be your son. Since using these races your character will also be a child, this presents some... problems. However, I don't have the skills to alter the son's dialogue myself. Either ignore the son, or if you really want to take him along, correct his dialogue in your head to headcanon him as Your Lost Brother instead.

Your Lost Son (or Brother) will always be the Nord child. This is because the mod seems to only check for base races. I haven't been able to figure out how it does this, so unfortunately even providing ActorProxy keywords won't make it able to tell that you're actually a different race.

Similarly to this, the Bloodchill Manor creation doesn't seem to properly recognise you as a vampire even if you're a vampire kid. I haven't taken a look into it yet, but I suspect that like Your Lost Son, it's only checking for the base vampire races, and not vampires in general.

Character creation options are limited - for the Man and Mer children, this isn't too noticable. For the Khajiit and Argonian kids however, it's more noticable. There's not much I can do about that however, as it's beyond the scope of my modding abilities.
Beast children in particular seem to have no body whatsoever when wearing no clothes or armor, and their hands are invisible unless wearing gloves or gauntlets. They're also currently missing their tails too. I'm not quite sure how that happened, and will be trying to find out why. Fixed in 1.1

Creation Club's Survival mode still does not recognise any of these races as their base, adult races. This means that you will miss out on any racial perks relating to Survival mode (only).

Not compatible with any mods that also alter child race records - if in doubt, crack open xEdit and check for conflicts manually. It isn't hard - it's how I made everything here.

Technically not compatible with racial overhauls. By this I mean that the adult races will be affected just fine, but the kids will still use the base game traits, skills, etc.

As noted above, this is not compatible with RS Children Overhaul's built-in Vampirism fix. That is obsolete thanks to the fixes included here.

Technical:

There's two key records in each race that made this, and particularly vampirism, work - 'Morph Race' and 'Armor Race'. For all the kids, 'Armor Race' has been set to DefaultRace - I originally found this to be necessary when using Your Lost Son in order to get them to actually wear armor and clothing without it turning invisible on them. The exception to this are the beast kids, who use the corresponding adult beast race as their Armor Race - setting it to Default Race was the colossal derp on my part that was making their tails vanish and bodies turn invisible when unequipped.

'Morph Race' is the key, however. For the non-vamp kids, 'Morph Race' is set to the corresponding adult (Eg Imperial Child's Morph is set to Imperial, and so on). For the vamp-kids, it's set to the corresponding non-vamp kid (So Imperial Child Vampire's Morph is set to Imperial Child, etc).

I can't be completely certain if the ActoryProxy keywords also played a part in it. My stubborn refusal to get around to learning papyrus, and therefore figure out how the damn vampirisim scripts work, meant that I sort of stumbled across this solution and it worked.
