KNOW YOUR TRUE ARMOR

04/16/24: Optional file added to restore Armor Rating to full function while still providing some of KYTA's randomness. Perks and enchantments that affect Armor Rating will now FUNCTION NORMALLY. Your armor will now NEVER protect you less than what is provided by your Armor Rating, but it will occasonally protect you a little or even a lot more (depending on the Tier). Overall, the randomizing effect is much more subtle than the main file, and at lower tiers of armor, it might be barely noticeable until you reach a higher Armor Rating. Using this file means no more gaps in the armor, so combat is much more predictable, but still less so than vanilla. An updated armor protection chart is included in the optional file's readme. I didn't get to test this setup much. I'd suggest trying it with different armors at different Armor Ratings. Don't forget those flesh spells. Feedback is encouraged!

** You can use mods that change how Armor Rating scales with no issues while using the optional file.

(See articles for full description).

Mod is under construction. Description has been stripped down so people can quickly get an idea of what KYTA does.

** I'm restructuring so that it can be used in a modular fashion. Features will be optional and can be combined in whatever way you prefer once the mod is restructured. Sorry for the mess.

Key Features

  • Works for everyone: All features apply to both the player and NPCs.
  • Randomness: All armors have an element of unpredictability. Damage mitigation occurs within a range rather than as a flat amount. (Optional file to restore Armor Rating makes combat more predictable, but there is still an element of randomness).
  • Layered protection: Cuirass, helm, gauntlets, and boots each offer their own percentage based chance to protect you from physical attacks.
  • Heavy Armor: Significantly more protective than light armor, with some chance of attacks doing zero damage. Limits access to flesh spells for balance purposes. Increases spellcasting cost (optional file to disable this feature is available)
  • Light Armor: Much greater access to flesh spells and no increased casting cost.
  • Set Bonuses: Gain an additonal chance to take no physical damage when wearing a matching set of light helm, boots, and gauntlets or a chance to take no magical damage when wearing a matching set of heavy helm, boots, and gauntlets.
  • Flesh Spells: Now offer increased effectiveness with damage randomization. For balancing purposes, access to these spells is armor-based: more powerful flesh spells only work with light armors.
  • Armor Rating System Replaced (See optional file!). Instead of relying on armor rating, which provides a flat percentage of damage reduction that results in boring, predictable combat, armor will protect you in layers, with randomness and unpreditability built-in.
  • Pure Mage: To incentive an armorless playthrough, mages who wear no armor are given a 25% bonus to magicka regeneration.
