[Description]
Based on the original Helm Hair by KlausGamingShow. This is a lightweight mod that automatically switches your hairstyle when you equip helmets to let you show a vanilla hairline and remove baldness without giving up your well made modded hair.
It works by storing two sets of hairstyles when you close racemenu and switches between them whenever you equip/unequip a helmet.
By default it uses any vanilla hairstyle as helm hair to show under helmets and any other (usually modded) hairstyle as main hair.

[Difference]
I made this version because I had problems with helm hair detecting modded hair and it wanting to uninstall itself all the time. :D
The main differences are:
  • More reliable way to detect hair as viable helm hair using a FormList. Also allows adding additional hairstyles as helm hair without editing the plugin with the help of FormList Manipulator
  • Removed the uninstallation function as it had the tendency to uninstall itself all the time and it's never a good idea to uninstall mods mid-save anyway
  • More transparency through in-game notifications
  • Automatically reapplies your main hair when picking a new helm hair (see below)

[How it works]
I'll assume you're using mod added Hair for this, otherwise there's no point using it. :)
The steps to make this work are similar to the original and very simple:
  • Create your character or load a preset.
  • Finish your character. The mod will notify you that your chosen hairstyle has been registered as your main hair.
  • Open racemenu again (console: showracemenu) and change your hair to a vanilla hairstyle that you want to see under helmets.
  • Finish your character again. The mod will automatically switch your hair back to the main hair you've registered earlier and notify you that your chosen vanilla hair has been registered as your helm hair.
  • You're done!
To change your main hair simply change it like you always would.
To change your helm hair simply pick a different vanilla hairstyle again
.
Reequip your helmet if you wear wearing one to refresh it. (but why would you wear a helmet to change hair anyway :p)

[Requirements]
Skyrim Script Extender by the SKSE Team
Keyword Item Distributor by powerofthree

[Installation]
Install anytime like any other mod.

[Updating]
Safe to update midgame. If you're updating from version 3.0 or the original make sure to reregister both hair types again.

[Optional]
FormList Manipulator can be used with the included ini to add non vanilla hairstyles to the list of helm hair.
If you know any modded hairs with working under-the-helmet hairlines let me know and I'll add them. :)

[Compatibility]
Compatible with Helmet Toggle 2. Note that if you change helmets while they are hidden through HT2 it will show your Helm Hair again.
Fixed. Use the 2nd main file. :)

Possibly incompatible with other hidden helmet mods due to Helm Hair's inability to know whether gear was made invisible instead of unequipped. You can try excluding any mods like that in the included KID file, I've already included some I knew of aswell.

Partially incompatible with Let Your Hair Down. Helm Hair can only register either your hair up or hair down as main hair, not both. I don't use that mod so I don't know how much of a problem that is but nothing will break by using both together.

[Known Issues]

There will be a brief pop in while the mod switches your hair due to a small delay when switching headparts. This is visual only.
Disabled on horseback due to a bug with the QueueNiNodeUpdate function. - Simply change your headgear after dismounting.
Disabled for vampires due to a limitation with the same function. - It's recommended to not wear helmets when turning into a vampire.
An alternative mod with a different approach but without these limitations can be found here.

[Questions]

Q: esl?
A: esl flagged plugin :)

[Thanks]
