    Hello Friends,

I'm not entirely happy with this update, it's not as big as I'd hoped for it to be after all this time, but it fixes some bugs so I thought I'd put it out there.

    What's new in v. 1.4:
-A bunch of new conversations, mostly for a Bosmer Player.
-Revamped the initial conversation between Auri and Player to make it more immersive.
-Tried to cozify Auri's pod. Failed. It is a little different but still equally ugly.
-Player can now take Auri's stuff without pissing her off.
-Player can now sleep in Auri's bed.
-Added letter in Falkreath to give a roleplaying player a reason to find Auri's pod.
-Auri will no longer misgender a male romance partner.
    -Revoiced some older lines.
-Nerfed Auri. She no longer has a paralyzing perk and shouldn't steal your kills as readily.
-Significantly lowered the chance for annoyingly repetitive lines to fire. Let me know if they still repeat too much.
-Changed Auri's default outfit to low level armour so it's easier to replace.
-She will no longer rattle off random Bosmer trivia to another Valenwood-born Bosmer.

It should be okay to update mid-game.

Due to popular demand, I've reuploaded the Interesting NPC's banter patch.
I've not personally touched the patch in years, and I'm uploading it as is. There may be unvoiced lines.

(Please note that Daenlyn not showing up is a vanilla 3DNPC bug, and not caused by Auri as previously thought. :') Enjoy.)

    Hello Friends,

After a few weeks of work, I have finished the first version of the VIGILANT commentary patch! It adds ~140 lines of commentary, both location-based idles and conversations with the player.
VIGILANT is a story best experienced alone, at least for the first time, but if you scare easily or get lonely, it is now possible to bring Auri along.

Because of the way VIGILANT is made, the patch has a few quirks.
For instance, Auri will occasionally either follow you into places she's not meant to (like dreams) or not follow you into places she should. I recommend liberal use of the summon spell in the latter case.
Another quirk you need to be aware of as of this first version of the patch, is that Auri will assume that you have made the good/correct choices throughout the story, even if you haven't. This is because I haven't yet figured out how to track Vigilant's Karma system, and because of the mod's sparse use of clear quest stages. Therefore, if you intend to do an evil/bad playthrough, leave Auri at home.
I really recommend that you use the voiced translation by Aelarr.

Finally - because of how long VIGILANT is, I've only playtested the patch once. Let me know if something seems to not be working correctly.

Good luck on your journey, Vigilant of Stendarr.

Absolutely love the mod. Auri's comments and asides are both whimsical and emotional, and her singing is absolutely beautiful. The only drawback I've run across is that, no matter how many times in numerous playthroughs I've tried to begin the romance track, it will not start. At no time following the Song of the Green quest line, whether I take her to any of the inns, or my home, does she sit and relax to start the romance track. As you might guess, this is very frustrating, as I've had no opportunity to compare her romance track with any of the other followers I've used. Even disabling EFF has had no effect, and I do not use any mods that change the interiors of any of the inns nor player homes. I feel I've reached a dead end in trying to find a console command which would enable me to force a hard start to the questline. Please help.

There's a guide in the articles section that might help.
If she's not naturally sitting down for a chat, you can just ask her to. :)

I've actually looked for that option, but it's never come up in the dialog options. As an aside and to follow up on my original post, I use Vortex and have several profiles with her in them. In none of the profiles had the option to ask her to sit down appeared.
I will scour through the articles again to see if I've missed something.

It's the generic follower line 'I need you to do something'.  Then point her at a seat and direct her to sit.

Are there some lines aren't voiced? Sometimes the subtitles show up but I don't hear any audio.

Thistlefoot somehow got into my player home (Tundra Homestead) and now I can't get to anything because there's a giant antelope in the way. I play on Xbox so I can't console command despawn him, or find any other way to get rid of him. Auri is able to summon and ride him still outdoors, but whenever I go inside that stupid antelope is just sitting there. At one point there were two Thistlefoots. If I kill it, will Auri react and get upset, and will she still be able to summon and use Thistlefoot? I don't want to upset her or take her mount away, I just want my house back.

That's very odd, it shouldn't be possible for there to be two Thistlefoots. Every time Auri summons him, he disappears from where he was previously. Are you using any patches?
That said, it's safe to kill him. Auri won't be upset and she will still be able to summon him.

I don't think so? I use Daughter of Valenwood, I thought maybe it had to do with convenient horses, but that's higher in the load order than Auri? A friend helped me use the debug menu mod to disable the NPC in the house so I got it back, at least.

Almost immediately after I made the last post where I disabled him, the bug with two of them happened. Again. One of them despawns/teleports whenever she summons him, but the other is content to just chill outside my house. As long as he stays outside, I'm content with this arrangement.

How bizarre, I've never seen this before! I wonder if this could be an Xbox-specific quirk? Does she summon two of them? Where did the extra Thistlefoot come from, was he suddenly just there? Does he respawn if you kill him?

He was just suddenly there when I left the house, and doesn't move when she summons a new one. He doesn't leave the area outside my house. The downside is that now she doesn't really want to ride the one she summons anymore, for some reason? She summons him, but won't hop on. At one point she tried to ride the extra, and then refused to get off, when I used the Yffre's lesson she teleported and then immediately ran back and remounted. I admit I haven't killed the extra, it makes me squeamish to think of killing someone's pet, even in a game.

I recently got Auri as an awesome companion again, with the help of ff7legend's patch.

Something odd: She is occasionally speaking up to say, "Ugh, I don't feel so good." It's not actually spoken aloud, but a subtitle that comes up. If I then interact with her, I don't see any dialogue options that seem related to her being ill or unhappy. When I talk with her, she's generally cheerful. But sometimes when I finish the conversation, she sighs as if she's irritated. I'm sure I haven't said anything unpleasant to her; I certainly don't want to!

I recall from my previous long game that she eventually seemed depressed, and that's when we got to go on our sightseeing tour to boost her spirits. But I think we'd spent more time together before that depression began. And then I think there was something pretty clear for me to do about it. The current behavior seems different?

Yes, this is a bug caused by me messing up the numbers of that dialogue. She's meant to say that line when her health is low.
Unfortunately I'm unable to fix this bug right now because my creation kit doesn't work.

I reckon she's having moments of PTSD regarding past injuries and past dire situations. Now I know to just be supportive and comforting, and the moment will fade.

I ear about that the Beyond Skyrim team are planning to make the Valenwood land, do you plan to make an future patch? I think this could be awesome. Perhaps an redemption quest, bringing back Auri to the green valley or an commentary how she can't go there... I prefer the first one but i can understand the narrative of your choice

I think that'd be fun, although it sseems that the Valenwood version is still many years away.

That said, I will not be exploring a conclusion to Auri's story in any mod patches. :) If that gets expanded upon, it will be done in the base mod.

I have managed to finally solve the issue of not being able to recruit Auri when using a follower framework mod like AFT/EFF/NFF/UFO/etc.  I have provided a patch to Waribiki via Nexus PM so hopefully she will upload my patch to Auri's page whenever she has the time to do so given her busy schedule.

Whoa, cool -- I am looking forward to it, ff7legend!

I was just trying to recruit her again, after giving up several months ago (same continuing playthrough). I even dismissed all my NFF and independent followers, flushed NFF, and made sure 'player follower count' was zero. No luck. We have the introductory conversation, and she says she's joining, but then she's not actually joined, won't literally follow, and doesn't have her conversation topics. (I then return to an earlier save so that the initial conversation will be available later if a workaround is discovered.)

Out of curiosity, what did the nature of the problem turn out to be?
I sure loved traveling with Auri in my previous long playthrough.  =)

      Please make this happen.

I've had Auri with me for a while now, but I just started doing the Companions questline, and that forcibly dismissed her somehow, but there's no option to tell her to follow me again.  I can summon her to my location, but she just starts walking off.  I can talk to her about our relationship, or chat, but I can't make her follow.  She just goes home.  I've tried a bunch of console commands, and they had no effect on her at all, except some would make her lose her equipment.

I tried uninstalling EFF, that also had no effect on her.

      I've put the patch up!
I've never experienced this bug in my own playthroughs, so I can't guarantee that it works, but it's in the optional files if you'd like to try it out. :)

Thanks to ff7Legend for sharing it!

Beware that patch could mess up the Nether's Vex patch. I think these problems can be avoided by using RDO or RDO Lite.

@Smpatico: No it cannot.  I have RDO & RDO-Updated installed & still have the issue since I also use EFF by expired.  The issue stems from Auri being placed on the vanilla follower framework while using a custom voice vs having her own framework independent from the vanilla one.  This creates a conflict with the vanilla DialogFavorGeneric quest which controls vanilla follower recruitment.  My patch is universal & will work alongside any follower framework mod since all it does is add Auri's voicetype to the FormID list for recruitable followers.  Anyone using a follower framework will have issues recruiting Auri since follower frameworks make their own edits to the DialogFavorGeneric quest.  This is why it's essential for custom-voiced followers to be placed on their own follower framework in order to avoid these types of conflicts.

      @ff7legend.

Your patch is overwriting the Nether's Vex changes to that same formlist. Or his will overwrite yours.
If you look at my ill favoured Geralt replacer, you will see I have patched the DialogFavorGeneric quest there, but this is different.
RDO does allow Vex to work though, so it won't matter for users of that.

@Smpatico: You can add the Nether's Vex FormID List (DefaultNPCVoiceTypes) to my patch - thus creating a merged patch that will allow both Auri & Nether's Vex to work together.  I did this with Auri, Alkaia & Katarina on my end using xEdit.  All three work perfectly fine with EFF on my end without issues thanks to my merged patch I created using xEdit.  Not that hard to fix the conflict between Auri, Nether's Vex or any other custom-voiced follower mod running on the vanilla framework & the various follower framework mods out there...  Ultimately, authors of custom-voiced follower mods should not be using the vanilla follower framework for their followers due to the conflicts they cause with follower framework mods.  I can almost guarantee you a vast majority of users who employ followers have some type of follower framework mod installed into their load orders.  My patch addresses the conflict between Auri & the various follower framework mods out there.  It will be up to the user to fix any addtional conflicts caused by other custom-voiced followers dependent upon the vanilla follower framework using xEdit to create their own conflict resolution patch - something everyone should know how to do when modding a game like Skyrim anyway.

Ultimately, authors of custom-voiced follower mods should not be using the vanilla follower framework for their followers
It also has upsides... NFF options are often more powerful/flexible than what is available in custom individual frameworks, plus you can control global behaviour of all followers in a single MCM, instead of having to set it up follower-by-follower

      Question for Ff7legend:
I use NFF, I haven't installed your patch yet, and I can't successfully recruit Auri without it.
From what you & Smpatico discuss here, would your patch have the side-effect of cancelling my ability to have other custom-voiced followers in NFF? In my current long playthrough, I'm often--via NFF--adventuring with Caesia, Livia Salvian, Nether's Elana, Lielle (Rose of the North), and/or IFD Lydia. (They have all seemed to work fine in NFF, while some other followers like Remi are kept outside of it. I wonder why they don't conflict with each other, given what you've explained.)

If there _is_ a conflict from your patch, would the result kick these others out of following, or would it 'merely' prevent me re-recruiting them if I dismiss them?

You're assuming too much public skill. I don't know how to use xEdit. I can understand that this'd be good knowledge to have. But I'm successfully running many hundreds of mods without it (thanks to cautiously reading about any mod I consider adding). If your Auri solution would 'break' other followers in my game, where would I try learning this xEdit aspect that could solve the newly-created problems?

(BTW, in a long play-through a year ago using AFT Amazing Follower Tweaks, I was able to have Auri, Caesia, Lielle, & Lydia all recruited successfully together.)

(I have "RDO Final" if that matters.)

@Siamangos: Auri is making edits to the vanilla DialogFavorGeneric quest - hence why so many users are having issues recruiting Auri in-game when using a follower framework mod.  If you're having issues recruiting Auri without a follower framework mod installed, you have another mod installed that's making edits to the vanilla DialogFavorGeneric quest.  To solve it, you must manually create a conflict resolution patch that adds the voicetype of any custom-voiced followers on the vanilla follower framework to the FormID List - DefaultNPCVoiceTypes.  I use EFF & have 3x custom-voiced followers (Auri, Alkaia & Katarina) on the vanilla framework installed into my load order.  This creates an inevitable clash/conflict that will only allow the follower loaded last to be recruited in-game regardless if one is using a follower framework mod or not.  The solution is to create a conflict resolution patch in xEdit that adds the voicetype for each conflicting follower into the FormID List - DefaultNPCVoiceTypes.  Head over there to YouTube & look up a tutorial on how to create your very own conflict resolution patch.  Everyone who mods a game like Skyrim should know how to create conflict resolution patches specific to their load order or you will inevitably have issues.  Ultimately, custom-voiced followers like Auri need to be placed into their own follower framework a la Anna NPCs, Aurlyn Dawnstone, Inigo, Livia, & Virelda.  Followers on their own follower framework are 100% ignored by follower framework mods which minimizes conflicts.  Such followers should never be controlled or otherwise forced into a follower framework mod or their custom A.I may break.  This is especially true for Inigo as smartbluecat makes quite clear over there on the Inigo mod page...

@cuddm: EFF also has an MCM which controls all followers recruited via the vanilla framework & also benefits from additional functionality provided by SKSE64.  UIExtensions expands EFF even further via the addition of a handy wheel menu interface.  EFF/UIExtensions allow for major customizations of followers via the application of tattoos, facepaint, etc.  Followers can also ride mounts if the appropriate option is enabled in the MCM for EFF.  EFF expands the follower limit from 1 to 100 - by far the most of any follower framework out there.  Since EFF utilizes SKSE64 functionality, it completely bypasses several game engine bugs present within the vanilla follower framework to boot.

Happy news -- I had a chance to try the patch, and it worked fine for me. Thank you!

I was finally able to recruit Auri into NFF. I tested dismissing her and re-recruiting her. The other custom-voiced followers that I described (the ones who are safe to operate with NFF) seemed untroubled by the patch. They remained following, and I tested dismissing and re-recruiting some of them. The independent custom followers (like Remi) also seemed untroubled.

I'm delighted that I'll get to travel with Auri again! I promptly got to hear some new-to-me discussion between her and Remi. =)

I am saving your link to the tutorial so I can investigate later.

Having followers tied to Voice Type of all things is the weirdest thing.  It sounds like a really lazy kludge someone at Bethesda came up with to not have a more logical solution based on a more granular (and time-consuming) approach.

Everything worked perfectly with Auri, recruitment, quest, tells me we should talk in a safe place, bring her to a inn, was nice to her as per description, but cant get the "look" line to show up to trigger the romance quest. Reloaded a few times, and nothing. Went back questing, then went to a different inn, (just in case), and same result. Anyone have the quest id, to manually trigger it?
