Someone else's issue with the roads outside Whiterun led me here, and even though my issue is kind of different, (Whiterun had the ground dirt textures and not the cobble stone it's supposed to have) your fix leads me to believe this should force the cobblestone texture to load now. Not in a hurry to test it immediately but if it does work, then you're a modding hero.
Holy s#*! man you are a hero. I was wasting hours on how to solve the conflict between skyland aio and northern roads which was causing spiky roads in front of whietrun stables. Endorsed
I'm NashobaDalek and I'm new to porting and translating mods within the Brotherhood of Translators, I take the liberty of contacting you about your mod.
I would like to know if you would allow me to port a version of your mod to console (more precisely to Xbox) ?
Of course you will be fully credited for all the work you have done on this mod, if you refuse know that I would respect your decision and would not go against your will.
Although I am a beginner in this field, I think I am a serious person.
Do you happen to know if Northern Roads (main mod) allows Whiterun to swap its streets into barren ones (such as Riverwood)? Walking on pure brown soil with parallax?
The exterior roads themselves? There's a mod that replaces a good majority of the northern roads textures with dirt textures which will cover some of the whiterun roads except right outside whiterun that is usually stone.
However in order to have whiterun use dirt for it's roads, using this mod you would need to replace the stone texture used, or redirect the whiterun texture itself as I've done here. I can look at making a dirt texture replacer if you're not sure how to go about it.
I was actually considering if changing Whiterun's inner streets (removing pavement and leaving it barren) would actually make sense to a town. I guess the only way to know would be to install said mods, if they even existed in the first place. So, replying to your message, I wasn't referring to the roads outside the walls, but the regular city streets inside (main street going alongside Breezehome, merchant square, surrounding Dibella's Tree and so forth). You see, I have installed 3 separate tree mods to turn not only Whiterun into real forests, but the rest of the cities as well. With so much vegetation even blocking the sun, its only natural that "Northern Roads" would be a perfect fit here, inside the city.
Ah okay, I don't know of any replacers but the texture file name you would need to replace is wrstonefloor_1 and wrstonefloor_2 I believe. Alongside the _n and _p if you have them.
You can try and take the dirt road textures from northern roads and rename them to replace the whiterun texture files.
I know nothing about modding, unfortunately. But thank you for suggesting. Maybe we'll get this type of NR expansion here on Nexus? So far it looks nice the way it is. So, its all good with the world. :)
I would say if you aren't having any parallax issues on the roads outside of Whiterun and they are dirt then there's no need for it. If you want them to be stone and have parallax then the patch should help you.
A replacer like this is an unbelievably bad idea in case the original mod (hopefully) ever updates again for bug fixes. Why not just issue a patch for the textureset? I already actually make this change in my own game, so maybe it's something I could add to the patch hub..

Much appreciated, friend.
