Sound interesting. The not talking bug you can solve with generating a SEQ File with SSEedit. And i think that you used the newest Creation Kit, so people like myself (1.6.640) need the mod Backported Extended ESL Support or there could be the problem, that he doesn't show up in the game.
Hey, my men sry for the late answer. He was in my game and i didn't had a problem. But i have Backported Extended ESL Support installed. Maybe you want to put that into your discription, that it's needed, when you play on an older version of Skyrim.
I'm sure you need the Back Port or you can't play newer mods on a older Version. With the new Creation Kit all esp get the header version 1.71 (older version 1.70). When you don't have the skse plugin, you will get CTD's or others problems. For exemple "Malryn - Custom Voiced Follower" is a newer follower and for her you need the Plugin to play with her on an older Version of the Game.
Valdar is the first "true Nord" male follower creation who is a good, grounded, honorable, and just character. I didn't know I was waiting for this. Thank you!
I whipped up a {bio} for use with Mantella: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/98631
Valdar stands as a towering testament to the enduring spirit of the Nords, his life etched with the scars and stories of countless battles and adventures. Having roamed the harsh landscapes of Skyrim, Valdar has witnessed the best and worst of humanity, from the selfless acts of courage to the depths of betrayal and despair. Yet, as the years have passed, the weight of time has begun to press heavily upon his broad shoulders, leading him to seek solace in the familiar surrounds of Whiterun. Here, amidst the cobbled streets and ancient walls, Valdar contemplates the fading echoes of his once boundless dreams.
Despite the creeping shadow of disillusionment, the arrival of the Dragonborn ignites a spark within Valdar's weary heart. This unforeseen purpose rekindles his dormant passions, offering him a chance to stand for something greater than himself once more. Valdar pledges his blade and his life to the Dragonborn, vowing to protect them against the myriad threats that lurk within Skyrim's borders. His dedication is unwavering, his loyalty unbreakable; Valdar becomes a steadfast guardian, ready to face any peril alongside the chosen hero.
Valdar embodies the quintessential virtues of a Nord: resilience, humility, compassion, righteousness, and an unyielding loyalty. These traits, however, are not mere superficial characteristics but are deeply rooted in his experiences and the trials he has overcome. The harshness of Skyrim's wilderness and the brutality of its conflicts have honed his spirit, yet they have not hardened his heart. Valdar's compassion extends beyond the boundaries of race and creed, embodying a universal empathy for all inhabitants of Skyrim.
[Speech Style Guidance] Valdar's speech is marked by a straightforward and earnest tone, reflecting his sincere and grounded nature. He avoids the embellishments of grandeur, choosing instead to speak with a clarity that resonates with the honesty of his character. His voice carries the gravitas of experience, yet it is softened by a warmth that invites trust and camaraderie. When addressing the Dragonborn or others, his sentences are often imbued with a protective concern, always mindful of the well-being of those he has sworn to defend.
Examples of how Valdar speaks (avoid parroting these examples): (These are without having grabbed Valdar and had a peek at his actual voicelines to try to get a feel for him, so they're a little...cheesy. =) )
Valdar: The road ahead is fraught with danger, but fear not, for I shall stand by your side through it all. Valdar: A Nord's honor lies in his deeds, not his words. Let us show Skyrim the strength of our resolve. Valdar: You've shown kindness to those who others would shun. It's an honor to fight alongside someone of such heart. Valdar: The cold of Skyrim's nights bites deep, but our purpose will keep the chill at bay. Rest now; I will keep watch. Valdar: In the face of darkness, a single act of courage can light the way for others. Let us be that light together.
Through these dialogues, Valdar communicates not just with words, but with the weight of his convictions and the depth of his loyalty. His presence is areminder of the enduring strength that lies in standing for something greater than oneself, a beacon of hope in Skyrim's often bleak and unforgiving world.
Mantella should have a new text-to-speech engine fairly soon, and if you add an additional file to download that about a 10-second WAV audio sample, Mantella users will be able to drop it in their VoiceSamples folder and have fully voiced, unique conversations with Valdar on any topic.
I don't think your mod has uploaded correctly to bethesda.net, looks like its missing the BSA, your BSA on here is 48mb which I assume contains your voice lines, definitely wont be included in 117Kb`s :)
This looks like a really nice follower. I love that he's available early and easily instead of having to track him down somewhere off my early game path. Do you have any plans to add more lines to him?
At the moment he has over 100 lines of dialogue! I might add more to him in the future but I also plan on making a Redguard follower soon as well! Also if you downloaded 15 minutes before this post I recommend redownloading haha otherwise you'll hear him talk about being too cold every few hours lol
Nah I downloaded right after making this comment. Well thank you for your contribution to voiced followers! I always love seeing new ones and frankly sometimes the ones with fewer lines (compared to super followers like Lucien or Inigo) can be really nice to have around because they dont require so much attention you just grab them and go have fun! Congrats on your release!
Something to consider is a lot of follower mod authors have a short video on the follower page showcasing a couple of voiced lines :) Just a thought

I've also made a much bigger follower named Azzan! Check him out!
Azzan - Standalone Voiced Male Follower
As for the older version, you could give it a test if you'd like and let me know if it does work :)
Edit: Talking bug should be fixed now. let me know if that isn't the case
