If you're getting purple textures with this mod it's not because this mod is broken. This mod works just fine! Always has. The problem is on the users end. Simply put, you have a mod installed that has changed the texture paths in the .nif models. So these textures will never work on them. Even if you fixed the texture paths in the .nif file there's no guarantee these textures will match up properly because the new models you have installed are most likely UV mapped completely different.
Uninstall any modded chest models and this mod will work perfect EVERY TIME!
No matter what I do, the chests appear as a weird purple color, I've uninstalled and reinstalled every mod I have, I don't use SMIM, nothing seems to work
Somehow the texture paths are changed on your end and aren't pointing to the right directory. That is the only possible reason this mod doesn't work for you.
I was using this mod for ever. I don't know what happen... but is not usable anymore (SMIM is enabled). I can't make it work. I deleted the meshes... I deleted other textures... I re-installed it... ...Nothing! This mod's textures simply ARE NOT LOADING, are not visible!
I love SMIM, but it's chests are frankly, crap. Or maybe not crap, but almost modern looking. This is why I dislike things like Noble Skyrim as well. Whiterun suddenly looks like some Gated Community for Yuppies.
SMIM is great when it enhances vanilla.. but I dislike it when it thinks it can do better. The "Washed Out" (or Washed/Dirty) ones here are much better.. and still look vanilla.
Used this mod for LE skyrim and was a bit sad when it didn't work because of the issue with SMIM. Had to uninstall after trying for an hour trying to make it work with all the suggestions and "fixes" below.
Use these new textures instead if you don't want to bother, or don't have the time, to fix the issues.
Hopefully there will be some sort of fix, or patch for the SMIM issue because I can't get it to work. When there is a fix, I'll come back and download this mod, until then, I'll be using those textures linked above.
If you cannot get this to work for you, the problem is a path conflict between this mod (V1.3) and SMIM(2-08).
SMIM has changed the default file path for certain textures like the Ruins Chest and this mod only puts the textures in the original vanilla path ( .../Skyrim Special Edition/data/textures/clutter/ ). However, the current version of SMIM current uses a different texture path ( .../Skyrim Special Edition/data/textures/SMIM/clutter ).
That means all of these gorgeous detailed, dirty, etc. 2K textures are going into a subdirectory where they are never used in the game. That is why nothing changes when you install this mod and have SMIM loaded.
For those who want that cool textures, it will take you few min. to solve the SMIM conflict. I use SMIM All in one (less esp)... so go to C:\Users\.....YOU......\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\mods\SMIM SE 2-08-659-2-08\meshes\containers in case you use Vortex or other program it will be pritty the same direction....I guess. So simple you need to eliminate "containers" carpet. Nothing in textures only in meshes. Thats all! You will have that wooden "Detailed Chests Texture"!
C:\Users\...YOU...\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\mods\SMIM SE 2-08-659-2-08\meshes\clutter\ruins and here - ruins_largechest.nif and ruins_smallchest.nif... just eliminate them and you will have other 2 chest textures.
C:\Users\...You...\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\mods\SMIM SE 2-08-659-2-08\textures\clutter\ruins - ruinschest01snow.dds You can eliminate that "ruins" carpet.. also... Thats all...
Recently, some mod or random glitch stripped out all of my chest meshes leaving them all that crazy purple color. I found this mod in perfect timing. Not only are my chests no longer purple, they're rather nice to look at! 5 smiley seal of 100% approval!!!!! Thank you!
Installed the Washed Outs, and they look great. I also have installed SMIM but let Detailed Chests overwrite SMIM (only 1 file gets actually everwritten), and that works fine. Many thanks for making these!
Ok, I went ahead and uninstalled Detailed Chests from my game. I updated Nexus mod manager to the latest version. I re-downloaded Detailed chests and installed it as normal. I started up Skyrim and all the chest textures show up fine. I'm not exactly sure what's going on with your game. But this mod works perfect on my end. First guess would be your chest meshes are not pointing to the correct texture paths. Second guess would be you have the textures installed in the wrong directory. Maybe try installing them manually.
This is where the textures should be.
