Here's a bunch of frequently asked questions (seriously, some of these gets asked every 2 posts) that should hopefully answer your questions before you decide to ask something that has already been answered (likely several times).

The original mod for legacy Skyrim can be found here.

    Q: CAN U PLX PUT ON BETESTHA.NET?!=!!11
A: Sure... it's already there at:
    Beards [XB1] at Bethesda.net

Q: Do I need to use the .esp?
A: No. I recommend you do however, there's no particular reason you shouldn't. If it's a maxed out load order you're concerned about:
    1) You're modding wrong, you should never have that many mods installed.
    2) If you absolutely must, you can use TES5Edit to merge minor mods together (such as this one, with, for example Brows and other similar mods).

Q: PLX MAEK THIS OR THIS ONE BEARD!11
A: You didn't bother read the description, did you? I'll make new beard styles eventually.

    Q: R U GONA RETEX KHAJIIT BEARDS??!
A: The sideburn/mane beards are included within Beards. The whiskers/mustaches are part of hair textures and will thus be found in my upcoming Hairs mod.

Q: WUT?!? COLORZ OF HAIR AND BEARDS NO MATCH?!?!?!?!11!11one
A: This is intended. That's how Bethesda made it, and I intend to keep it that way. In real life, we rarely have the same beard and hair color, especially if we have a brighter hair color. It's not uncommon to have a hint of red in your beard, if you're blonde, dark blonde, or even darker.

Q: 'Member Beards for legacy Skyrim?
    A:

Funny enough, I never play Male characters but I ALWAYS download and install this mod because I keep telling myself "one day I'll roll a dude, and when that day comes, I need to look awesome!".

Look at it this way, all the game NPCs sporting a beard will look significantly more awesome.

    Hello Hvergelmer, awesome mod dude!
I want to make the textures light grey so the beards will have normal colors and a standard white in RaceMenu and in game.
But i can't do anything because every dds in Photoshop is black, like a blank texture fill with black color.
Then i tried with Paint.net but i get an error there which says that the file is corrupt and can't open any dds of your mod there.
I did this on a hair mod and it works, please help. :D

You know you can compensate for the default vanilla color, by applying a baby blue tint to it right?
The textures themselves work perfectly fine in Photoshop here. I'd make sure I had all the DDS plugins available. Not just the Nvidia one, but the Intel one as well, as these were saved using the Intel one for the best possible compression.
Can't help you with Paint.net as I don't use it.
That said, I'd recommend you compensating by using a blue tint instead, to give the hair a white/grey color, and leave the hair as Bethesda intended. Much less complications.

for the longest time I thought this mod was trash bc it didn't work, genius me actually popped open the file & looked & somehow my idiot brain decided to delete the esp so of course it didn't work

anyway it's fixed now, nicely done.

sorry to hear about the plagarism from Diversity! why didn't they just say "to get the complete look you need to download Beards"?

Trash? With that logic, you're saying an incredible amount of people were wrong? (50k endorsements on LE and 10k here?). I mean, it should've been obvious that you must've done something wrong, if other people didn't report it as "not working"?

Anyway, thanks for double checking, even if it took you the longest time.

Plagiarism is a common occurrence for many mod authors. It was unfortunately only brought to my attention recently the mod had my beard textures in it, without providing proper credit - or asking me permission to begin with (but on the other hand, they used eyebrow textures from a mod not quite on the level of my Brows mod, so what do I know). I would've been okay with "download Beards for the intended look", they went out of their way and did that for Apachii Sky Hair, despite being strongly against being dependent on other mods. The thing that actually annoyed me about Diversity though, is how they had the nerve to claim you wouldn't need other character customization mods, like the ones I provided, because their mod already covered all that. So, basically stealing my assets, not providing credit for it, and claiming you don't need my (and other authors) work. That said, the mod author might've just "forgotten" they had my assets installed and included them in their upload. Or maybe they planned to ask permission, but had read my permission rules, decided to opt out and forgot to exclude the files from their mod.
Either way, this is why I say you should always make absolutely sure all your permissions are in order, before you even include other peoples work in your mod. I don't know why the mod page is still under moderation review, maybe he's an inactive mod author and haven't reacted yet, the simplest solution would simply be to remove the textures and reupload the mod. This is not the time nor place to talk about that though, I hope they return promptly, decide to remove the files and everything will be good once again.

I never claimed to be intelligent!

I hope they do the smart thing instead of doubling down, this whole situation is really unnecessary

Oh, well. You know realization and admitting a problem, is the first step towards improving. XD

Yeah, same. Although, if they're an inactive mod author, they might simply not care enough. Who knows.

This mod in one of it's version for LE had a long beard. It looked like Gandalf's beard, now it doesn't.

It never did. The beard was from my old friend Omesean's mod Companion Valfar.
Beards EVER only included vanilla only beard assets.

Wow. This mod is fantastic! The endorsement is more than deserved...

The only problem is that the vanilla hair now looks even worse than before.

Greetings. Thanks for your work on the mod. I currently use the previous version and will, after comparing the records, either swap the mod or just the textures.

I read the FAQ, however, and will disagree with you on your assertion that a heavy load order implies that I or others are "modding wrong". I currently have 252 esm/esp plugins along with 166 esp-fe (lites), have been playing this set for ~7 weeks and have many more weeks of play to go. No hiccups, no broken scripts, no excessive string count, no discernable problems other than the rare, random crash. I also know of others that have an even larger total plugin count than what I have. My pardon, but if one uses diligence in putting together a large load order they are modding correctly, not incorrectly.

You could also provide a esp-fe version of your plugin which would make it easier for someone to slip into their order. Your 17 formID's aren't sequential, but a quick run through the CK to renumber them then a flag conversion with xEdit would do the trick.

Again, thanks for the mod and your effort in creating it.

Oh, I remember seeing it before. I already checked, they have older Beards assets in the file without providing the slightest form for credit or asking me permission, which is odd, seeing they credited everyone else - but I suppose it has something to do with the fact, that my permissions section clearly states that I do not allow people using a Hvergelmir's Aesthetics mod as a whole in other mods. This doesn't bode well for this mod author. :/

They provided credit to KS hairdos in the permissions section. They don't mention KS hairdos in the mod description however. I assume they probably got permission.
They don't mention Beards anywhere however. I have filed a report already.

One of the first things I couldnt help noticing once I understood how to work on NPCs, was the terrible resolution and quality of their common facial features globally. Eyes, hair, bears, brows. Of course, there are mods to fix all these and long have been. What I find, irritating, is that the npcs are still packed with all these really badly done assets, from 2011 by default. When I look at a vanilla npcs, their terrible brows, bears, soso-eyes and other short comings really stand out.
One thing I would love to see , is a file to completely modernize the craptacular vanilla assets , and update ALL npcs globally, with modernized textures and meshes. So they have decent looking eyes, brows, teeth, beards hair and so on, out of the box . While overhauls do exist, there scope is usually pretty narrow, and their goal is usually to make all the women 18 years old and turn them all into hot models. And on occasion, some of the guys too. Far as I know, no one has expressed much interest in redoing the entirely of the base vanilla npcs. And the reason is obvious, there are over 3700 facegens in the base game+DLCs.

Anyhow, the new beards, and brows are a great improvement and glad to have them, and other resources like them.

That's how I felt about the armor textures, which is the first thing I started working on a week after the release of Skyrim back in 11.11.11. Sure, I eventually moved on to character generation textures, which for now has covered beards and brows (as they don't require re-baking character tint masks).
The intention of Hvergelmir's Aesthetics is covering pretty much all the things you mentioned there, into a complete package, and it'll eventually be released as one big file that covers everything. I'll probably leave the updating of vanilla npcs to other people though.
