I am taking another hiatus from modding this game until the update dust settles again. There have been 3 or 4 more updates since the one I made this guide for. I cannot keep doing this and no one should have to. You win this time, Bethesda.
I'll leave the comments open for you all to help each other, but I have already forgotten most of what is in here. I am currently shooting bugs mindlessly and have no interest in wrestling with Bethesda's destructive updates.
i got a question my file paths start with "this pc" so does that mean this method wont work for me because i cant use a non spaced path? i've tried twice now and keep hitting a dead end when im told to replace old files with new files i somehow didnt acquire.
update. turns out it did work and the files were send to a completely new skyrimse folder i didnt make but either or my skyrim is fixed.
Thanks for the guide. Very well done. Everything seems to have worked right, but I cant get the Skyrim or skse exe's to run. This is on a steam deck so it needs proton. Also, Steam still thinks its uninstalled even though I put it in the stock steam folder. I think maybe the uninstall took the right proton thing out. Anybody have any ideas?
It appears to have downloaded everything but when I got to the folder I asked it to download to, it is empty. anyone have a fix? Apart from that, instructions were super easy to follow! life saver once I get it working!
I will Reply to myself in case anyone has a similar issue. The downloads ended up going here: C:\Users\youruser\depots Followed the rest of the instructions and it worked FLAWLESSLY! This game is a classic but Bethesda is milking it too hard. Make sure to follow the rest of the instructions to stop them from bricking it again!
I am having an issue I'll try to solve it by my self If I can't then I will send a reply here... (Delete if you want) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Nobody cares I know I am just putting it out there for whoever has the same issue so I can help after). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update 1: For me it worked like a charm however some of my characters don't load up at all... they just CTD, if I start a new character I can create him like normal all my animation weapon and armor mods work just fine... BUT when I try to load up the MCM menu it just doesn't load up my mod settings... I will do some digging but I think I lost all my saves because todd decided is an amazing idea to update Skyrim without asking us in the first place if we want the game to update at all. At least update the game and add a DLC or something like wtf xD
Update 2: Managed to fix the MCM Menu not showing up issue, however my saves still don't load up... I'll do some more digging.
Update 3: Saves now work amazingly! from where I left off! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Personally how I made it to work... 1. I didn't unistalled Skyrim Special Edition, i just created a new folder named "Skyrim" and added all the files from the depot there...
2. Then, I proceeded to replace the files from "Skyrim" to "Skyrim Special Edition", I disabled the game from updating again... (yes I am looking at you Todd!),
3. THEN I purged my mods deployed and REINSTALLED THEM! (This is very important to understand make sure you reinstall your modlist otherwhise some mods might NOT LOAD and cause a corrupt save until you load all the mods that the save needs! ESPECIALLY Script heavy mods!!)
I'm using Mod Organizer and it won't start with the new install of Skyrim. It says "Cannot open instance "portable", the game directory D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition doesn't exist or the plugin 'Skyrim Special Edition' edition doesn't recognize it."
Does anyone know how to fix this? I won't be able to play with the newest version of the game.
I was working through an 800+ mod installation when 1130 snuck its way through Steam to me. I waited for the mod community to update things and found work-arounds for most, but in the end I uninstalled everything frustrated to no end. After a few days of sulking I started poking around and found this guide of yours; worked like a charm! Perfection. Endorsed x8000!
For anyone that is missing AE CC Content. This is how I managed it.
I uninstalled Skyrim then fresh installed 1130 through Steam. Launched the game normally. Got the usual Thanks for Downloading AE message and allowed it to download all my CC mods. Quit Skyrim. Copied all the files downloaded following the guide from this mod and overwrote everything. Deleted _Resources.esl and _Resources.bsa. Downloaded and installed SKSE for the rolled back version, 640. Also mentioned in this mod's guide. Ran the game via SKSE and now have a fully working version of 1.6.640 Win.
