Interesting. I thought this was already an in-game feature considering they're dead, so ergo, they don't need to hold their breathe in circumstances like this lol. Ah well. To be fair, I never tried swimming as a vampire before, so this'll come in handy ^_^ Great Work!
According to the game lore, Volkihar hunt their prey from under the ice on lakes and rivers, while staying, obviously, under water. I think vampires are defined a bit differently in different universes.
It also helps that there are different vampire bloodlines in the Elder Scrolls canon, which means that not all vampire are capable of waterbreathing like the Volkihar bloodline.
"...cross *running* water..." TES lore doesn't need to adhere to real world mythology. Just like Skyrim's dragons. They are dragons, and only dragons in this universe. In other mythologies, they might be Wyverns.
