So does this darkness ever go away/ change like weather? I'm playing with it and it is truly eternal darkness anytime of day lol. Still cool with a torch.
Thanks! Been busy IRL and between other projects, so for now I'm just opening permissions for add-ons and modifications so long as this mod stays a requirement.
Hi, runesentinel. I've been playing Darkrim + Shattered for the past few days. No troubles at all and it's a lot of fun! Even after playing Skyrim for thousands of hours, everything is fresh and stimulating. Thank you for this fun mod!
Imagine a patch between this and End Times of Dawnguard, that makes it so that if you take too long, it just triggers this permenantly and fails the quest!
probably can save a boatload of FPS using this if your struggling.
i just tried this - it didnt work for me.
i dont think its compatible with Dyndolod. thats my guess.. i also have a bunch of star mods and things, but i would of assumed this mod would override them if i put it at the highest priority
First I want to say that My expectation of the mod was to install it and then to load up my save game then everything was going to be pitch black. I did not know about a spell effect called Glutonous Abyss. I was not made aware of that.
after installing the mod and loading my savegame, i walked into the outside exterior. And nothing was different. all the lighting was exactly the same as without the mod installed. You will see this in the screenshots i will provide.
it wasnt in there when i loaded my game. I used the cheat menu mod, and then i added the spell. and things looked Different ! it wasnt total absolute darkness that i was expecting.. but it was a Hybrid of Total Dark and Totally normal. Which is actually pretty cool looking, very creepy.. i think i like it.
i uninstalled it, then i reinstalled it. upon loading my game. it then automatically created the spell for me. and when i went outside. everything was pitch dark black.
as its supposed to be.
so i guess... Skyrim is Glitchy...
my total opinion of playing in complete and utter darkness = its cool. its definitely different. but with so many upgraded lighting effects, tree effects, high resolution and optimizations .. its not really optimal gameplay to be in total darkness.
i think i prefer the hybrid version.. where its near total dark, but there is some amount of creepy lights around.
Classic Skyrim, I guess. It might have had something to do with how the game prioritizes adding the spell to the player, but that still doesn't explain the semi-dark effect... I'll have to look into it some more. Thank you for the bug report and review!
The idea sounds very cool, what's missing here is a lorefriendly fit and stealth/enemies detection being responsive to pitch black weather (as far as I'm aware that's feasible with modern weather mods?).
A suggestion for lorefriendly fit; this could be an extra weather, rather than replacing all other weathers. Because of Alduin (darkness!) and Dawnguard plots at the same time, nights are getting more brutal than ever, and every few days there's no sky to be seen. This could have a lore name; "the darkrim", since it only affects Skyrim because of Dawnguard plot / Alduin plot.
Naturally it's up to you, but given the GOTY worthy concept, I encourage you to continue working in this mod until it's complete.
Also, I think Community Shaders improve grass under darkness? Unsure.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'm thinking about later using Dawnguard's Eclipse as a framework for random NPC dialogue and spooky encounters, and maybe add a way to banish the dark entirely, but all that would be a separate optional download. I like the simplistic nature of just this. I also thought about adding a feature where being away from a light source for too long would make the player take damage, but that's way outside my skillset lol

this mod is good enough just with the lighting . it changes the game in a significant way without making it complicated.
as i said , its not working 100% for me, i'm getting a hybrid darkness effect. but i think it looks cool.
See black
day ruined
