i've followed your tips for the blue trees bug. downloaded the correct projected diffuse file make sure its not being overwritten by anything else, redid xlodgen, texgen and dyndolod. and it still shows up as blue in my game. maddening

hi, wondering about your optimized preset, I'm trying to get a high quality LOD all around, i don't want to use unnecessary levels, i have a 4080 and a smaller list, Skyland aio, happy lil trees etc.
what is the difference in your preset from say the default, any advice?

Hi, It's been a little while, so I'm fuzzy in the details
But I think it's mainly the tree billboards

If loading the rules just open the INI and change the output path to where you want it. don't think it matters and dyndolod will ignore since its not valid on your system but gets rid of that error msg.

I recently discovered an issue when generating LOD where it looked like my grass cache failed (i.e distant grass was invisible). What actually happened was my grass was being reverted to vanilla, and that grass is so small it looked invisible in the distance by a terrain landscape texture mod, so I just had to make sure my grass mod loaded after (as well as ensuring its textures weren't being overridden).

I also encountered an issue during generation where DynDOLOD gave me a sort of generic error which was apparently caused by newer version of AMD graphics drivers, so I had to roll back to version 22.5.1 and was then able to generate LOD. After verifying it was successful, I updated my drivers again (so you don't need to have old drivers installed the whole time).

Lastly there is the error where grass cache will repeatedly crash in a certain spot or DynDOLOD will hang forever, which I find is usually caused by a corrupt xLODGen texture. The only way I've found to fix this is to either completely regenerate xLODGen and hope for the best, or to explore the folder structure of the generated output to look for files which don't load an image preview (i.e have the icon of your image viewer/editor, whatever you've set as default).

The snow information isn't entirely accurate. You need to make a distinction between snow on the ground (covered by xLODGen) and snow on objects (not related to LOD generation at all). If you want to make snow on the ground brighter, you need brighter snow textures (snow01.dds) when running xLODGen. If you want snow on the objects to be brighter, you need to adjust the directional material colour settings, or use a brighter projecteddiffuse.dds. Ideally your projecteddiffuse.dds should match your snow01.dds, and then the directional material colours should be set accordingly. Better dynamic snow is better in this regard because it offers two different brightness settings as options in the FOMOD, whereas simplicity of snow only has one.

      Thanks for the heads-up
My poor wording is to blame, keep in mind this is just a quick "reminder/note to myself" for my personal usage, if it benefits others it's all the better though.
I modified the description to emphasize that projecteddiffuse.dds needs to be identical/consistent with the snow textures used
I personally am not sure about the inner workings of either better dynamic snow or even simplicity of snow. I know that if a mod has tons of patches like BDS, it means it's a good thing.
I'm just more appealed to the ease of use and straightforwardness of simplicity of snow, that's why I mentioned it.

There's of course the difference between BDS 2 and BDS 3. I think BDS 2 only comes with one (brighter) snow option, BDS 3 has the two brightness options.
