About this mod

This large feline is a relentless predator, even managing to take down Mammoths of considerable size when hunting in groups. Although the term is also used to define all members of the most well-known and abundant feline family of saber-toothed predators, it is the largest among these that is usually individually referred to as Smilodon.

"Although the term is also used to define all members of the most well-known and abundant feline family of saber-toothed predators, it is the largest among these that is usually individually referred to as Smilodon. This large feline is a relentless predator, even managing to take down Mammoths of considerable size when hunting in groups.

The name given to this group by zoologists can be translated as "two-edged knife" combined with "tooth", and it is easy to understand what gave rise to this nomenclature, as these large cats sport a pair of long, sharp canines, which they use to lacerate the throats of their prey and tear their flesh.

Three main species that occur in Skyrim are properly documented: the largest of all, cataloged as Smilodon populator and also commonly referred to simply as Smilodon, is a large feline with short fur and a territorial and aggressive temperament, generally solitary, but gathering in groups for large hunts or in more adverse conditions. Its back has a slight hump, and its front limbs are larger than its back ones. The head is relatively small, but compact and with extremely strong jaws.

A slightly smaller one, also with the same behavior pattern, but with a more compact and thicker body and shorter limbs, a denser coat, with a larger head but considerably smaller jaws, which however does not make it any less dangerous, is the one cataloged as Smilodon fatalis, being the most commonly found and also the one that, due to its greater abundance and distribution, causes the most accidents. He is commonly referred to simply as Sabre Cat.

Finally, the smallest of the three, Smilodon gracilis, about the size of a Cougar, is generally called
Sabertooth Tiger, as it is particularly similar to one. These are much less common, generally
solitary and living in seclusion in the caves and mountains of the Reach in Skyrim.

All Smilodons apparently have coats adapted to the environment: those from warmer
climates have striped fur, while those that live in the snow generally have spotted fur."

Tecnhical info and considerations: This mod only adds the Smilodon populator, since vanilla Skyrim already has the Smilodon fatalis as Sabre Cat. Later I will release a mod for the Sabertooth Tiger from TES 2 Daggerfall as Smilodon gracilis.

Another point I want to mention is about the production of this mod: this mod uses the model of the Sabre Cats from Forgotten Vale, but with the texture of the vanilla Sabre Cats applied to them, although modified and retextured to 4k by me. Since I saw that both Sabre Cats shared the same mapping and the usage of the texture of the originals was possible in those from the Forgotten Vale, I wanted to use this unique model as a predator outside that place, leaving the Vale one as a sub-species or species of Smilodon native to there, and a very similar species, but much larger and living in the outside world as another variant, perhaps even the one that originated the one in the Vale.

The model, however, does not have the ideal mapping that I would have done (in general, DLC Dawnguard was made in a very sloppy way), but as I specifically wanted to reuse the model I mentioned, I didn't want to change it too much. In some small spots I don't think the texture fits perfectly seamlessly, such as in the ear area, but it fits well enough. However, I fixed several mapping defects that the original vanilla  Vale Sabre Cat mesh had, because those created black spots on the mesh, not desplaying proper texture, so the remaining small defects are minimal.

- 1 new creature: Smilodon (Smilodon populator), in 2
variants: (normal) Smilodon and (Snowhills) Smilodon;

- 2 new misc items: Smilodon Pelt and Snowhills Smilodon Pelt.

So far no incompatibilities have been found between this mod and other mods.
(OBS- If by chance when installing several of Mihail's mods at the same time you are asked about files overwriting those of other Mihail mods or other authors mods, don't worry because they are just the same files shared between mods. I recommend that on these occasions always give preference to the files contained in my mods, and among mine always give preference to the mod you are installing last.)

The Mihail Monsters and Animals series aims to create and make available to the community the most complete set of creatures for TES 5: Skyrim, implemented in an immersive and unique way, with respect to the pillars of lore. Instead of pathetically just throwing models and textures in the game reusing 100% vanilla mechanics, the creatures made by Mihail have uniqueness and extreme zeal in their idealization and implementation, which will provide you with an experience that you have never had before in this area.

Author: Mihail- as mentioned in the description, I used the Vale Sabre Cat model and the textures of the normal Sabre Cats as a base in the production of the Smilodon, which consisted of model-mapping fixes on the model and 4k re-texturing of the original textures used as a base, and in addition, loot and game implementation.
