Yesss...felt like I was going crazy! After awhile I'm like what happened to my footsteps? They went quiet for so long I started thinking the sounds came from another mod entirely as when I reinstalled this it still sounded like I was using the other mods for steps even when overwriting them. I even broke open the bsa and let them overwrite and still. Yeah hoping I can get this working again because the heavy steps sounded awesome!

i fixed this by unpacking the .BSA into the base mod folder *and then hiding it in a backup folder*

Love most of it. But like a few others, hoping we can get a lower volume version, more subtle and less in your face.

In the audio settings footsteps sliders works I made sure of it when I first started working on this mod, if it doesn't work that means it's a mod conflict try and load Cataphract last on your LO

      Thanks for the prompt reply.
I see that I can change the audio settings.
However, I was hoping to get a working out-of-the-box version that doesn't need further user tweaking. Like you did with Eviseral.
Anyhow,  I appreciate your hard work on this regardless.

Does the updated version need a patch for ISC?

Can you please explain how to fix missing sprint sounds? A comment says left and right sprint sounds are not tagged or something like that. But, none are explaining how to fix it, I thought I could ask you. I never learned how to use xEdit properly. Note: I'm using ISC & AO with integration patch.

I'm also too dumb to fix this it would seem. I tried to create a patch in xedit and copied the cataphract entries over into the patch file while adding missing entries from other sound packs. In the end I didn't even have heavy footstep sounds in third person anymore... welp.

Afterwards I deactivated "Audio Overhaul Skyrim", "Immersive Sound Compendium" and "EVE - footstep sounds restored" so that no other sound mod would be interfering. Same result. I tried to place cataphract at the top of the mod list. Same result.

I don't get it. This mod is nice but this is too annoying to deal with. Somehow it's extremely uncomfortable when everything suddenly goes silent when it should not (in my case: no sprinting sounds for heavy armour in first person).

Such a same. I like this mod a lot but it's such a hassle to troubleshoot. I disabled it for now until we get an update from mod author.

Just wanted to leave a comment here with a way to fix the sprinting issue. So if you open Cataphract's .esl/.esp file in either zEdit or xEdit under the "Footstep" category there are several different entries for footsteps and if you are to click on them and open them up you'll see that the footsteps have tags such as "FootRight," "FootLeft." As it turns out the sprint footsteps are tagged incorrectly. SATASprintArmorHeavyRFootstep, SATASprintArmorHeavyLFootstep, SATASprintArmorLightRFootstep, SATASprintArmorLightLFootstep have tags for "FootRight," "FootLeft." when they should have tags for "FootSprintRight," "FootSprintLeft."

Now that I got the mod working, it feels amazing, and it's incredible how such a simple change can make the game feel much more modern and immersive. Combined with the battle sounds mod you recommended, it feels like a new game. Thank you for your work, @satafinix. May I recommend that the commend about how to edit the two commands in xedit is made sticky, or made added to the description? It's a simple change, but I'm sure there are other noobs like me that have never even openen xedit before lol
Anyway thanks again for the mod! I'm starting a whole new playthrough because of it.

By the way thank you for making them so easy to use!

i love the gritty low fantasy vibe of being a mercenary with realistic armor noises.

just wish we had a realistic hit noise mod that had a more low-key meaty splat on impact instead of the obnoxious DING sound you hear in EVERY weapon sound mod.

So, the newer version, at least for me, completely borks the audio levels. No matter how I adjust the "Footsteps" volume, it stays the same level and it's louder than everything else. Absurdly so. I installed the older ESL and it's much quieter and volume appears to adjust properly.

    FWIW.

I really wanted to like this mod. And I do like some sounds, but I think mostly this doesn't make sense in-game. Like I am wearing light armor and walking on the wooden boards of whiterun (added by impoverished whiterun) as a thief character, should be pretty quiet right? Probably leather squishing sounds? Maybe some light contact with the wood? Maybe some gear shifting and clanging, but not much... But instead it sounds like each step is a sledgehammer for some reason. Like my dude is inexplicably 1,500lbs and he is about to break the floor. Extremely loud and ooomphy even with only light armors.

I was hoping for something chunkier and meatier... for the heavy metal armors. Light armor should be mostly subtle. But these are just too loud for everything, especially the light armor effects. Maybe I installed it wrong, and these are heavy armor effects? But they didn't sound like metal exactly, more like a very heavy hammer on wood. So I think it's just a bad sound effect. Maybe if I could pick which ones I wanted and adjust the volumes but as is, it's just annoying me and unimmersive.

Not sure if this is just me, but when I sprint while dual wielding magic and wearing light or heavy armor regardless of the animation it doesn't seem to play footsteps at all. Sorry if I phrased that in a confusing way. Could just be me.

Turns out it's not just me the sprint footsteps left and right are not tagged as such in the .esl but changing them seems to have fixed my issues.

Really nice sounds, adds a lot of feeling to the game. a shame that the sounds are inconsistent and some sounds are missing all together creating weird silent moments when sprinting, and no sound whatso ever when sprinting in first person.
