It worked fine by doing the following.
NG : meshes\actors\character\facegendata\facegeom\ae01aeolus_ghillscarriage.esp\00019d14.nif OK : Meshes\Actors\Character\FaceGenData\FaceGeom\Ae00AeolusQOL_Carriage.esp\0000080B.NIF
NG : textures\actors\character\facegendata\facetint\ae01aeolus_ghillscarriage.esp\00019d14.dds OK : Textures\Actors\Character\FaceGenData\FaceTint\Ae00AeolusQOL_Carriage.esp\0000080B.dds
Just noticed this was built for Anniversary Edition, so could explain why it's not working for me in Special Edition. Sounds like a really cool mod tho.
made an update to fix this. also made a patch for CFTO if the dialogue option "Let's talk about carriages..." doesn't show, enter the farmhouse then exit. after that, talk to your steward.

fixed in the main file update 1.3
I've updated the CFTO patch to be ESP flagged as ESL and did some cleanup.

Next, load a new save and talk to the butler?
save game, close skyrim. Relaunch the game then load your save.
