About this mod
I spent more time than I'd like to admit adjusting the settings of Maxsu Poise to give me the stagger experience I want.
- No armor = No stagger resistance
- Light armor = Some stagger resistance
- Heavy armor = Decent stagger resistance
Since it's up to personal taste, I'll explain a bit below what to expect.

I've tried most other standalone Poise mods (Loki's, Chocolate, Poisebreaker), but neither of them feel right.
I wanted a poise system with simple calculations that "just works", which Maxsu Poise provided.
I'm using MCO as my main combat mod, with True Directional Movement, dodging, etc. (but none of it is necessary for this to work)
What to expect from the presets
When wearing NO ARMOR, humanoids are vulnerable to stagger. Daggers cause a small stagger in a single hit, and any larger weapon causes a medium or large stagger. Unarmed takes 2 hits to cause a small stagger.
Increase stagger resistance by equipping ARMOR.
Light Armor is enough to prevent first-hit staggers against certain weapon types.
Heavy Armor is required to prevent staggers from bigger weapon types.
I've made 2 presets that you can choose from.
You can download both and try them out, but only use one of them at a time since they'll overwrite each other.
Preset 1:
Base poise health: 75
Light Armor Bonuses:
- chest piece: +90
- Gloves: +15
- Boots: +15
- Headgear: +30
- Total poise health wearing FULL LIGHT ARMOR SET: 225
Heavy Armor Bonuses:
- Chest piece: +270
- Gloves: +45
- Boots: +45
- Headgear: +90
- Total poise health wearing FULL HEAVY ARMOR SET: 525
I know some people prefer to not wear a helmet, so the preset has been balanced so a helmet isn't required to feel like you're getting some decent poise. Helmets will still provide minor benefits if you choose to wear one.
Download it and try it out! If you want to read more about what to expect,
Below are some more practical examples of what will happen when wearing certain armor setups:
(!) I have ordered the examples from worst poise to best poise.
(!) I'm only listing changes from the previous equipment setup.
Wearing NO ARMOR (75 poise health)
- Unarmed staggers after 2 hits - Everything else causes stagger on first hit.
- Daggers cause a small stagger.
- Swords cause a medium stagger.
- War Axes cause a big stagger.
- Maces and two handed weapons cause the biggest stagger.
- Arrows cause a big stagger.
Wearing only LIGHT ARMOR CHEST PIECE (165 poise health)
- Unarmed staggers after 3 hits. (+1)
- Daggers stagger after 2 hits. (+1)
- Everything bigger than a dagger still staggers on first hit, but with a slightly weaker stagger compared to no armor.
- Arrows cause a medium stagger.
Wearing LIGHT ARMOR CHEST PIECE + GLOVES + BOOTS (195 poise health)
- Swords stagger after 2 hits. (+1)
- Maces and axes still staggers on first hit, but uses the smallest stagger animation.
- 2-handed weapons cause a medium stagger.
- Arrows cause a small stagger.
Wearing FULL LIGHT ARMOR SET (225 poise health)
- Unarmed staggers after 4 hits. (+1)
- Daggers stagger after 3 hits. (+1)
- War axes stagger after 2 hits. (+1)
Wearing LIGHT ARMOR CHEST PIECE + HEAVY ARMOR GLOVES + BOOTS (255 poise health)
- Arrows now stagger after 2 hits. (+1)
Wearing only HEAVY ARMOR CHEST PIECE (345 poise health)
- Unarmed stagger after 6 hits. (+2)
- Daggers stagger after 4 hits. (+1)
- Maces stagger after 2 hits. (+1)
- Two-handed weapons still stagger after 1 hit, but first hit uses the smallest stagger animation.
Wearing HEAVY ARMOR CHEST + GAUNTLETS + BOOTS (435 poise health)
- Unarmed staggers after 7 hits. (+1)
- Daggers stagger after 5 hits. (+1)
- Swords and War Axes stagger after 3 hits. (+1)
- Two-Handed weapons stagger after 2 hits. (+1)
Wearing FULL HEAVY ARMOR SET (525 poise health)
- Unarmed staggers after 8 hits. (+1)
- Swords stagger after 4 hits. (+1)
- Arrows stagger after 3 hits. (+1)
(!) Note that Maxsu poise also takes individual race mass + scale into account when calculating how poise damage is dealt,
so it's possible to encounter stronger or weaker NPCs who are either better or worse at dealing poise damage.
All "hits taken" examples above are based on fighting humanoid NPCs with the same mass+scale as the player.
Preset 2:
TL;DR: Use this if you think heavy armor is too OP with Preset 1, or if combat against creatures feels too easy.
- Similar to Preset 1 in terms of how many hits it takes to stagger an opponent with various weapons.
- Poise Health is overall lowered, but poise damage modifiers from weapons are adjusted so that combat between humanoids is still similar to preset 1.
(This means creatures can stagger you slightly faster, and you stagger them slightly slower). - Heavy armor is a bit weaker since I found it a bit too strong with Preset 1 unless you have mods that reduce movement speed while wearing heavy armor.
