I prefer the one on the left. It really makes her face seem more alive, while the other is ... faded? I don't have a better world for it, forgive me.
Surely, there might be some ups to using the second one, especially in case of very bright skin textures (well, most of LE textures used be very bright imho).
Anyway, I think I will stick to version .421 .

Ella, I also prefer the one on the left which is the original SSS that Boris designed for Skyrim Special Edition.
The one of the right is similar to the SSS method used in the LE ENB.
The LE ENB SSS is an Option in the new binary so you would have to enable it for it to take effect.
And I agree that the LE-like SSS might be a good option under bright conditions since it is obviously less bright; I notice it immediately after it is enabled.
Thank you for your thoughtful input.
      Be well my friend.

It's like a "Spot the Difference" competition.
I'll go for the one on the right. Has she got slightly bigger boobs?

Nah, the only difference is the subsurface scattering technique.
Boris developed a new SSS method that similar to the SSS in LE in that it does not reflect off tint masks, warpaint, etc.
      Thanks for stopping by.
I continue to enjoy the Idiot Elf saga. Glad to see our dynamic duo out of the virus doldrums. :)
      Be well my friend.

OK, That all sounds pretty cool... But her boobs are bigger too right?
Idiot Elf wants to win the prize.

In the main, the left looks better to me as the brighter tone shows Amber's features a little more sharper, and the right side has less gloss and shadow blending in the left cheek/side. As for the following screens, the top screen has less aliasing (jagged pixels) in Amber's lips especially the bottom lip and the bottom pic has less shading through the shadow on her left side. After looking at both screens for a longer period of time, the bottom one has more definition in the eye underlines and the freckles appear more natural, that could be from the darker tones high lighting the eyes, maybe in top version slightly darkening under liner would give those results, but in the end both versions look great.

For close up screen shooting the left in main and top one in rest of set would be my choice due to overall image, and now you have got me thinking of going 4k on Lucinda's face!!!

Lol there goes 47 hours getting that right ha ha lol!!!! Thats what you get for staring into Amber,s eyes for a hour, picking the best SSS technique!!!!!

Cheers Gurley, I should have gone to bed an hour ago(ha ha lol) and I hope my post was helpful, look forward to seeing more, Michael!!!

    (ps nice tune, HODOR))

      Excellent analysis, Michael; thank you.
You have a keen eye my friend and great insight into fine details.
I also prefer the left side image though the other certainly has its merits if you prefer less color saturation.
One thing I learned from LoneyKitsune is the new LE-like SSS technique ignores tint masks/makeup in calculating the SSS (light reflection off tintmasks is not considered) so from that perspective the Boris' original SSS method for the SE ENB is technically more accurate. Of course if you want less light reflection, for instance in bright light conditions, then enabling the new LE SSS option is a quick and easy way to reduce skin reflection brightness.

And yes, I do use 4k Fair Skin Complexion diffuse maps. At a distance you won't notice much difference in 2k textures but on closeups you definitely will. And all 4k textures are not recreated equal. For instance with some of the 4k skin textures Amber's nose looks fuzzy and stopped up but with FSC the nostril openings have depth and look realistic.

Sleep well my dear friend and yes, HODOR. :)

Typically brightness is better IMHO, but I guess it all depends on how the skin handles the light. By upping the brightness on the second image you could keep the shadows detail plus not changing the image overall (unless that is what you intended). Or vise versa (lowering brightness). Either way Amber looks good, but I would say overall it might be a difficult decision.

Good insight, BR, and I agree.
I think it's conceivable that SSS parameter adjustments with the new LE-like SSS enabled might make it virtually indistinguishable from Boris' original SSE ENB SSS. It would be interesting to understand that technical difference in implementation.
And thank you for your kind support my friend.

Boris confers with a small set of technical consultants so I occasionally get some insight from LoneyKitsune who is a very gifted programmer. :)

Ahh... Thus the Silent Horizons recommendation. I can't deny it's an exceptionally customizable ENB, just wish I had more time to play around with it, lol!

Yep, don't sweat it. To be honest I don't use most of the features most of the time. I'm a pretty lazy screenshot taker. I don't use LUTs very often either because I mostly enjoy just playing the game and I like for my game to look clean/clear and realistic. I use a lot of high quality textures and I don't like haze or anything that obscures the lovely textures. The way I look at it immersion = realism within the context of the game and the era depicted in Skyrim doesn't include smog generated by internal combustion engines. :) I love natural phenomenon associated with weather: rain, snow, fog, etc. but I hate illogical/unnecessary haze that is not associated with a weather condition. That's why I love Silent Horizons + Cathedral Weathers = the clearest most realistic combination I have found.

It is at that! If you wanted to truly see all your HD textures in their glory, it seems a good way to go. I always liked the older Elder Scrolls games more than Skyrim, so I try to color and jazz it up as much as I can to make it more interesting (not that I think Skyrim is a bad game, there's just less character mechanics, so I go for vivid visuals).

I think the subjectivity, the background and the taste of the person looking at both pictures will play a good part in the choice the person will make.

But whatever the choice we make, this shot is an example of your talent GurleyGirl.

And it would make a great painting of your character.

      Greatly appreciated my friend.
And your are so correct about the subjectivity of taste.
There's an old American saying: there's no accounting for taste :)
      Be well my good friend.

I haven't played in a while time and probably lots of mods need to be updated in my game but I liked the SSS settings from Ruvaak. They gave a nice and gritty feel to the skin.

Wonderful capture and I like the one on the left more, due to her skin looking more natural with lovely rosier color of her cheeks.

I also prefer the left side image for exactly the reasons you cite.
Hope you are doing well fair lady.

I think the one on the left (first separate photo) makes her checks seem more rosier in color not so pale as the right (second photo), also more natural and living a good life.
I also think the eyes have a more (can't think of the word) " I have a secret" look and "don't you wish you knew it".

Whichever you choose will be beautiful.

I also prefer the one on the left which is the SSE ENB subsurface scattering that Boris developed for SE.
Hope you and yours are doing well, Hun.
      Enjoy.

i think i might go with the new for one reason only i like to use bloom in many of my shots and this would prevent Lacola's face from being to bright or whited out, at least i am gonna find out thanks for bringing this up because i was not even going to update thinking no big deal but now it just might be

      Thanks for your input, RT.
Objectively, I will likely not enable the new SSS option most of the time.
I discussed it with Lonely who had seen a number of images and discussion on Boris' website and concluded that the new SSS method ignores tint masks, makeup, tattoos, etc. and I agree with him that light would not do that in real life so it doesn't seem to be technically as realistic in practice.
Having said that, in overly bright situations like snow on a bright sunny day, I might enable it to reduce skin texture washout. But as you suggest, it will take some in-game testing to see how it works.
      Best wishes my friend.
Hope to see more of the dazzling Lacola soon. :)
