EverQuest - the very first one - was my first ever MMORPG. I almost didn't get it when it came out. I was looking for something different and I remember reading about it and thinking this might be cool. I didn't know about online gaming back then, let alone an MMO - and not like there were a lot. Ultima Online I think might have been the other big one?
Anyhow I played EQ for 6 years or so and my main character was a small wood elf druid who I named Otter Wetwhiskers.
Some of my best gaming memories came from those 6 years although I could never manage it these days - it was a BRUTAL grindy MMO with out any quality of life options. But it was exciting, new, full of adventure and risk. Gaining levels and equipment felt like a major accomplisment. Doing most anything was an accomplishment in it lol. I had so much fun meeting people, the mob pulls, learning the lingo for online games, and on and on. I even ran my own guild for 4 of the years with about 20 people.
Great memories of a happy time in my life. So, having Otter is nostalgic for me and gives me a warm feeling when I think about him.
Otter: "Let me do the talking next time. It's clear all that muscle didn't leave room for brains."
Keth snorts, looking down at Otter who is glaring up at him. He casually readjusts himself with a large hand.
Keth: "You know little man I can think of a much better use for that big mouth of yours then talking."
Otter, eyes transfixed on Keth's groping hand, swallows a whimper.
Otter: ---- (nothing comes out of his mouth, he's speechless)
Keth's smirk becomes a wide grin.
Keth: "Well now, guess there's a way to get you to shut-up after all."
Maybe more to come in the supporter area ...
