About this image

A nord nobleman who lived in Solitude in the fourth Era. He was the last High King of Skyrim before he was challenged and subsequently killed by Ulfric Stormcloak, jarl of Windhelm and contender to the throne of High King. Torygg was rightfully named High King by the moot when his father Istlod died after a 25-year long reign. It is said that Torygg actually respected Ulfric for his views of an independent Skyrim and even could have been persuaded by him to secede from the empire. Even when Ulfric appeared in Solitude, Torygg hadn't suspected that he was there to challenge him in combat. As the custom of challenge is highly respected in Skyrim, Torygg couldn't refuse Ulfric's request. The battle was short; Torygg had no martial prowess to speak of and Ulfric, who fought in the Great War, had both combat experience and the Thu'um on his side. It was the latter that sealed Torygg's fate and made Ulfric a kingslayer in the eyes of many. Torygg's beloved young wife Elisif the Fair was forced to succeed him as Jarl of Solitude and, from this point forward, even had the backing of the empire to become High Queen when Ulfric and his Stormcloak rebellion were stopped.
