Important Note Concerning Issues with Northern Roads:

I - Load Order

Before asking  for a patch for a mod because you see broken roads, make sure that the mod in question is loaded above Northern Roads.esp and that Northern Roads.esp and its patches are loaded at the very bottom of your Load Order.
That way you will fix most of the issues you have in game. If some road issues are persistent after that, then you can suggest a patch for it.
The Load Order should look this way:
>your other mods
>Northern Roads.esp
>Northern Roads - Aspen Ablaze Patch.esp
>Northern Roads - Landscape and Water Fixes (LaWF) Patch.esp
>Northern Roads - Landscape Fixes for Grass Mods (LFFGM) Patch.esp
>Northern Roads - Water for ENB Patch.esp
>Northern Roads - Other individual patches
>Northern Roads - Other Combo patches
>Northern Roads - Lux Via Patch.esp
>Northern Roads - Ultimate Grass Fix.esp
>Northern Roads - LFFGM Patch.esp
>Northern Roads - Lux Via + Combo Patches
>Northern Roads - Lux Via Clutter.esp (don't use it along with Lux Via Patch - NR Bridge from the other collection)
>Northern Roads - Cities & Towns patches
>Northern Roads - Grass Patch.esp
>Northern Roads - Additional Roads.esp

II - Engine Fixes

You should be running SSE Engine Fixes and edit its skse/plugins/EngineFixes.toml file to set MaxStdio = 8192. Having a lower value can cause serious issues in your game such as LODs unloading, MCM Json errors and game reporting its too unstable!

Is there a difference between Northern Roads - Landscape Fixes for Grass Mods (LFFGM) Patch.esp and Northern Roads - LFFGM Patch.esp? I can't find the second.
    Thanks!

If you use the ultimate grass fix you load lffgm patch after it, if not you load it after lawf and before water for enb patch.

      Edit:

After extensive testing I would state the load order advise like this:

      > All other mods
      > Northern roads (Add the worldspace settings group to it in LOOT)
      > NR - Aspens ablaze and/or other tree mods patch
      > NR - Landscape and water fixes patch (LAWF)
      > NR - Landscape fixes for grass mods patch (LFFGM, only if not using the ultimate grass fix)
      > NR - Water for ENB patch (WFE)
      > Other individual northern roads patches, including the ones that have a LFFGM patch (only if you do not use the ultimate grass fix)
      > Other northern roads combo patches
      > NR - Lux Via patches
      > NR - Ultimate grass fix (If using it)
      > NR - Landscape fixes for grass mods patch (LFFGM, only if you use the ultimate grass fix)
      > Individual northern roads patches that have a LFFGM combo patch (only if you use the ultimate grass fix)
      > NR - WFE - LFFGM combo patch (only if using the ultimate grass fix)
      > Other northern roads - LFFGM combo patches (only if using the ultimate grass fix)
      > NR - complementary grass fixes patch (if using it)
      > NR - complementary grass fixes patch - LFFGM combo patch (if using it)
      > NR - Ryn's broken tower redoubt (if using it)
      > NR - Ryn's broken tower redoubt - LFFGM combo patch (if using it)
      > NR - Ryn's Farms + Ryn's Standing stones combo patch (if using it)
      > Other northern roads cities, towns, outskirts patches
      > NR - Cities, towns, outskirts combo patches
      > NR - Grass Patch
      > NR - Water for ENB (Shades of skyrim) - Water patch

Feel free to add to his guide.

Hi, thank you for posting this it has been immensely helpful.

However, I have seen the NR - Water for ENB patch on your list along with many others, but the only Water for ENB patches I can find are specifically for Shades of Skyrim.

      Am I missing something?

      Thanks in advance.

Maybe a late reply, but I recently read that if you're *not* using WfE Shades of Skyrim, you can literally load WfE after all the northern roads stuff.

I'm not 100% sure of the source, but I did check everything in xEdit and didn't see any conflicts, and haven't noticed any in my game.

Something is clearly just not right with the LOOT masterlist as if you use loot it always wants to put Northern Roads and all it's patches as high as it can in the load order. No idea why this is still happening. Whoever maintains the masterlist is clearly completely unaware of northern roads.

i think LOOT folks are aware since 2023: https://github.com/loot/skyrimse/issues/2799
personally i'm going to choose the path of lazy and skip Northern Roads for the time being; kind of frustrated with it at the moment

"Northern Roads - Additional Roads.esp" is shown as last but "Northern Roads - Grass Patch.esp" has an embedded rule to load after it, leading to cyclic rules.
Should I remove that rule or allow Grass Patch to load after Additional Roads?
