This  guide is for users for the Amazing Follower Tweaks SE mod-only. AFAIK, this bug is unique to ATF and seranaholic.


What to do if you use AFT on Serana and find that her eyes have reverted to squinty, distorted, vampire red slits. NOTE- if you selected the Vanilla eyes option for Serana you will not have this problem and can disregard this. Also, this workaround may result in all vampires having the Seranaholic eye color instead of their default evil red vampire eyes. 



1.

    Go to folder ..\ Data\textures\actors\character\Serana\eyes and copy the eye-texture file you installed for Serana:
  • Blue eyes- eyeorphee.dds
  • Red eyes- 06NaturalSky1.dds or NaturalRed.dds
  • Yellow eyes- 35WhiteYellowCat.dds


>>>>>Caution<<<<<< If you use NMM to install mods, you may find SymLinks (file size = 0) instead of actual files in the destination folders described below. In this case, right-click on the SymLink and select 'Open file location' before pasting or renaming any files in the following three Steps. Otherwise you may be renaming the SymLinks instead of the actual files and this can break the mod and possibly your game. MO users may have a similar issue but I don't speak MO.

2. Go to folder ..\ Data\textures\actors\character\eyes and paste the file- if you already have a file there with the same name, you will end up with a second file with (Copy) in its name, for example, eyeorphee (Copy).dds.
3. Rename the existing eyevampire01.dds to something that indicates it's a backup- for example, eyevampire01-Backup.dds.
4. Rename the file you pasted in Step 2 above to eyevampire01.dds.

Enjoy Serana's eyes again.

    Hey, idk if this is relevant for old Skyrim, but this is the only solution I've found. Serana's eyes changed after I taught her some spells with AFT, but when I tried doing what you described here it didn't help. I tried putting the custom texture both in Mod Organizer and in my Skyrim folder, but her eyes still switch a few seconds after loading. Any idea why the texture isn't being replaced? It's not a mod conflict. Does AFT have it's own vampire eyes texture?

      Could be any mod that replaces the default vampire eyes. For me it was Total Character Makeover.

      Don't know if anyone still needs a fix for this, but in my case I reset Serana from AFT and dismissed her. Her eyes still remained vampiric. I saved, then quit the game. I disabled Total Character Makeover (I found that this was overwriting Seranaholic's eyes), booted back up the save and Serana's eyes were back to the Seranaholic eyes I chose for her. I asked her to follow me, made sure she wasn't being affected by ATF, then saved and re-enabled Total Character Makeover. Her eyes were fine and everything was re-enabled.

      This worked for me Explosive117. Thank you so much I love you, didn't realise AFT conflicted with her eyes that is so weird

      Thanks heaps. This helped alot with another serana mod. Haha moving off AFT after this playthrough.

      I always had great trouble to fix this eyes issue. I started to play Skyrim SE again but VR version. VR version seems to be different. There aren't any such vampire directory with eyes files which I could easily rewrite with correct eyes according to procedure. Again eyes colour issue occured immediately after I started to manage Serana by AFT and made new save with this change. After load of this newly made save Serana had first 2 seconds blue eyes and then they were switched to red eyes which I didn't wanted. I didn't find out were these eyes came from cause I wasn't able to find any of such eyevampire01.dds file in Skyrim VR data folder. But then I realized that I saw new follower management tool under name Nether's Follower Framework . So I decided to use old save with unmanaged Serana then dismissed all follwers and made a new save. Then I uninstall AFT and again made new save. Then I installed Nether's Follower Framework and started to use it on all followers and Serana. It seems that it is working and I don't have eyes issue anymore after loading save with frameworked Serana. It seems that it is working perfectly. It isn't same like AFT. There are some new functionality and some AFT functionality is missing to be honest but it seems to be sufficient for my purposes.

      how do you make it so serana isn't affected by AFT, once you press Manage with AFT you can't revert it can you?  i dont use total character makeover, any help on how to stop her eyes from bugging out with AFT?

    Or can use the Fangs and Eyes vampire mod.  Just load it in high priority.  I like original dark red.

    This procedure doesn't working if you are using mod "Seranaholic and Valerica - Hair Physics Patch (KS Hairdos - HDT SMP)" In such situation are eyes still bugged like you see on this picture.

    Only way for my how to fix this was unistallation of this mod. Then this procedure works perfectly for me like many times previously cause this is old issue.

    doesnt work at all, changing the name will make seranaholic eyes become purple meshes then converted back to serana original unmodded eye, sucks, i guess ive to uninstall aft

    For step 2, there is a slightly different directory indicated (>character>eyes) than for step 1(>character>Serana>eyes). I'm a bit confused because I cannot find step 2's eye folder location to paste the eye file I copied from folder 1's location.

    Its not in my Skyrim\ Data\textures\actors\character folder and its not in the Seranaholic mod folder where Step 1's eyeorphee file was found.

    I'm assuming I'm not copying and pasting the file to the same folder I found it in to begin with. I use MO in case that's related.

    I'm probably overlooking something obvious but any clarification would be appreciated.

      Found out, just make a folder called "eyes" if you don't already have one under \data\textures\actors\character. Then follow the instructions like it says, with copying your eye file and paste it inside the eyes folder. Rename it to eyevampire_01.dds though rather than eyevampire01, hope this helps.

      Dude. Someone please pin ILLminded's comment. This is the absolute fix. Copy and paste doesn't work, you must rename the .dds file to eyevampire_01

    For me after Serana is cured, I have decided to manage her with AFT and her eyes and lashes turn the purplish blue as if missing textures.  
     
    Does anyone have a solution for this.

      I"m using ATF and her eyes work fine but I don't cure her. So maybe just do not cure her? She will be using vanilla human eyes after you cure her but I guess something is bug there.

    For me the file was called eyevampire_01.dds.

    The trick worked though! Thanks, it has been driving me mad for the last few days, now it's fixed!
