  • Download system overhauled on site and in NMM

I’m pleased to announce that with the release of version 0.30.1 NMM will now work with our new download system that was described in one of my previous news posts.

With the new download system your downloads are balanced across our entire file server network (currently 10 file servers). Non-premium members are capped at a download speed of 1MB/second (8mbit) across all their downloads. If you download 1 file, you'll be able to download at a maximum of 1MB/second. If you downl...

  • Finding the first step

Right now the North Americans are happily playing away at XCOM while most of the rest of the world waits until tomorrow to get their mits on it. However, that hasn't stopped some budding modders trying to work their way in to the XCOM file and config setups.

Obviously things are going to get off to a slow start as people poke and prod at the game to try and get something out of it, but consider working together with others on our XCOM modding forums who are already working hard ...

  • XCOM Nexus Launched

It is with great pleasure that I announce the launch of XCOM Nexus ready in time for the release of XCOM – Enemy Unknown this week (Tuesday in America, Friday in most other places).

If somehow you’re not aware, the X-COM series of games are considered massive cult classics with a whole wealth of depth that has never been replicated in the 15 years since the last proper game was released in the series. You play as the commander of a top secret agency tasked with protecting the wo...

  • Grimrock Editor released, mods available for all

I know quite a few people were disappointed to find out that the Editor beta and early modding was limited to those who had bought the game via Steam. Today that's all water under the bridge as Almost Human have now released the Editor to the masses, along with an update to Legends of Grimrock that opens up modders to all owners of the game no matter where you bought it.

  • Setting of Fallout 4 - Where, if not Boston?

The California Literary Review has its second part on where Fallout 4 should be based in order to best reflect the character of Fallout. In its first part they argued that Fallout was both a western and post apocalyptic, and that Fallout 3 based in Washington DC did not convey that appropriately.

In the second part they suggest several alternative sites including New York, New Orleans, Colorado and Santa Fe as locations that would make a better setting.

    Yes, yes, I know...

  • Skywind

First it was Morroblivion, now it's Skywind.

The group that was behind the project to port Morrowind over to the Oblivion engine has done it again, this time using the Skyrim engine.

    From the Morroblivion forums:

    Q: What IS Skywind exactly?

A: It is a non-commercial, fan made modification for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that seeks to merge the amazing world of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind with the enhanced graphics and capabilities of S...

  • DSfix 1.5 released

I just released a new version of DSfix!
One particular request I got here at the Nexus is support for .dds texture overrides, and that is now implemented.

    Bugfixes:
Fixed an issue with SSAO being rendered on top of particle effects/fog/water, instead of below them.
Improved the method used to determine when in the render pipeline to apply SMAA/SSAO, and also included more robust renderstate management. (This may fix the random display corruption issue people ...

  • Dark Souls supported in Nexus Mod Manager

It is with great pleasure that I announce that the latest version of the Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) now has support for Dark Souls modding, straight off of Dark Souls Nexus. What does this mean? In a nut-shell, you can now click the “Download with manager” button and have NMM automatically download the file in question and install it in to the proper texture over-ride directory, with no hassle.

As Dark Souls modding requires Durante’s DSFix utility in order to work, we’ve progr...

    Hi folks,

I first of all wanted to say how great it's been to see such an enthusiastic uptake of modding Dark Souls and the use of Dark Souls Nexus. There are now more than 50 mods available for Dark Souls with plenty more coming, which is great, because over 20,000 people will have visited Dark Souls Nexus today looking for mods. Word gets around fast, huh?

I wanted to get a notice out to as many authors and uploaders as possible about a few things regarding our et...

  • Vote on the Wabbajack!

Head over to GAMEOLOGICAL to vote on the best treasure in a video game ever!

Of course, there is no question, the Wabbajack is THE treasure!

    To quote Steve Heisler,
The Tanooki Suit offers two possibilities: flight and stone-cold stillness. The Wabbajack offers infinite possibilities. I think you’ll make the right choice.
