Version 1.1 - The official LE port of Butterflies Unchained has been released! Scripts were recompiled and the included (.ESP) plugin was remade for Skyrim Legendary Edition. After some tests, I can confirm that the mod is fully functional.
The next update will take some time. The plan is to merge Butterflies Land True into the mod; however, this will not be possible for Skyrim LE since Butterflies Land True was created on Skyrim Special Edition. As someone that has modded Skyrim since 2012, I highly recommend that everyone switches over to Special Edition.
Compatibility with Critter - Simply Script Fixes will come in the future.
while many landings are better, i'm still getting a lot of mid air landings, generally around shrubs and roofs and at those respective heights. not sure if that's just beyond the scope of this mod. still a quaint and fun addition, i like chasing the butterflies around to see how far they go
Thanks for the feedback! That was fixed by another mod, but unfortunately it is SSE-exclusive. The author of that mod tweaked thousands of landing points by hand, so it would incredibly time consuming to recreate the plugin for LE.
So what is incompability with Critter Simply Script Fixes? I can understand that Moths scripts are overwriten, ok, but why not to use all the others from dat mod, like fish and others?
Correct. I've been really busy with school, so I haven't been able to work on this mod for a week now. Might be another week before I continue work on the mod.
This mod edits existing scripts; it doesn't add any new script. The changes made to the existing script are lightweight. It does add more calculations for each butterfly to do, but those are mainly math calculations that a computer can handle quickly. I added some new properties, but only the minimal required to make the new changes work. In some cases, variables were used instead of properties to ensure long-term stability and low memory usage. It's based on the unofficial patch, which already includes fixes to the edited scripts. The butterflies retain their default AI structure (fly from point to point), but tweaks were made to ensure that this behavior was varied and butterflies were allowed to wander beyond their spawn point.
speaking of new properties n variables... would this mod add a lot of references? i'm worried about this recent game breaking limitation that's being talked about lately. some sorta reference cap and Masters... https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/ag4wm7/psa_the_reference_handle_cap_or_diagnosing_one_of/?sort=old
always something w/ skyrim. few years ago it was the String limit ect. anyway, does this mod add many temporary references?
This mod adds 1 temporary reference to each butterfly. That means once they despawn that reference is freed from memory. This mod makes no changes to the amount of butterflies that are spawned by each spawner; that number is still 10.
