Listen, I really love it when modders take care of NPC in this way, especially when it comes to taking care of my beloved Courier, one of the most immersive, interesting and cute characters in Skyrim. That's why I have a Provincial Courier Service mod by Arthmoor in my load order. And of course I ask you to make a patch, and ask you to consider my following idea: a changeable outfit, when Courier wears common clothing at home, at his spare time out of courier's duty, and wears leather set when travelling on business. This will make him an even more immersive character.
This is more lore friendly than the vanilla version. Hiring a guy to deliver a message in common clothing may work within cities, but for deliveries between cities an armed and armored courier would be necessary. Especially since Skyrim's roads are infested with bandits and predators.

Very immersive npc indeed.
