"As Serana is arguably the most important "vampire artifact" to the Volkihar Clan, I thought it would make sense for them to add some measures to prevent mere mortals from getting access to her."
Serana's mother sealed her there without the Volkihar clan knowing, so how can the clan add such a defence mechanism? Hiding Serana from the clan and Harkon was the whole point of it in the first place. Otherwise, great mod. Getting your hand impaled should give you some kind of drawback, and I like that you took inspiration from DOS2.
yeah, actually, since momma hid serana there to keep her away from the volkihar, it'd make sense if a VAMPire player received an ailment too when unsealing serana. as if valerica had booby trapped specifically for vampyre
Honestly, this is a kool concept but you need a way to decurse/cleanse yourself other than being inflicted by a vampire or werewolf. Secondly, This idea could be broaden upon. For example, tomb robbing should have a chance potential to inflict a player with a corpse rotting curse. Or you could do a full series of cursed weapons and armors. Each with their own back story and a way to decurse/cleanse them. Or you could put cursed coins in the game making stealing have more karmic retribution. Or you could curse urns in crypts and have them summon ghosts or undead on opening urns. Kinda a player induced looting trap.
I want to add a bit for your first point. I kind of agree with that. Why? Because i don't know what's going to happen if i'm using this along with some enemy-enhancing mods such as Revenge of the Enemies, High Level Enemies, and Better Vampires NPC (yes, i'm using all of them). So, having an alternate way might be good. I'm thinking about something which is strong enough to "dispel" or "protect" you from vampiric curse, something related with Stendarr? Or Arkay? Or maybe Meridia?
Edit: So apparently the author has made it to take account when the player has disease resistance. I don't know how much exactly will it affect your immunity to the curse, but hopefully it's worth it.
You can cleanse/decurse yourself by praying at a shrine, or drinking a potion of cure disease, like any other disease.
Those are some very cool ideas. Unfortunately each of them will take a lot of time to make. I might take them in consideration, though. Thank you for the suggestions. :)

In DOS2: you can remove Curse by casting a Bless spell. I would love to add such a mechanic in the game, but that would require some extra steps towards compatibility.
The way Disease Resistance works is the following. Disease Resistance is an actor value, ranging from 0 to 100. Using items will raise this. For instance, using an Necklace of Disease Resistance will raise it to 50 (50% immunity.) I take this actor value and compare it to a random 0-100 roll. If the roll is higher than the actor value, the disease will be inflicted, otherwise, it will be resisted.
It always bothered me, rusty vampire metal spike rips through your hand, no worries just slide it off don't even try to heal or clean it it didn't do any damage, what are you made of mercury? lol
