Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to start with a New Game? It's not at all working for me. :(

I've clicked on the map in my inventory to "use/equip" it - nothing.
I've removed the map from my inventory & put it in another container, then taken back into my inventory & done the "use/equip" thing - nothing.
I've enabled the mod, loaded a save, made a new save with the mod installed & then went through all of the above steps after quitting to desktop & loading the new save - nothing.

    :(

Do you have another mod overwriting my changes to the map? Can you try the following:

      1. Open your entire load order in xEdit.
      2. In the upper left corner, you'll see a box called FormID. Type BBCD5 in this box and press Enter.
      3. Send me a screenshot of the result.

Is this for you entire load order? Or just this mods plugin being loaded.

Have you tried making a new game and adding the map through console commands?

That's for my entire load order. All my mods checked.

No, haven't tried making a new game & adding map through console commands. I probably won't go through that trouble; no offense.

I just remembered, though: I'm using "A Quality World Map and Solstheim Map" and it doesn't have any ESPs or ESMs so it wouldn't show up in my TES5Edit load. I'll bet that's the problem. Sorry, you did mention other mods which might be overriding yours, and it's loaded late.

If you test it on a new game, we can rule out some stuff, making it easier to track down the cause of the issue.

You can easily test it on a new game, by just using the console command "coc riverwood" on the main menu.
This will bring straight to Riverwood, without having to go through the intro cart scene.
Once loaded, use the console command "player.additem BBCD5 1". This will add the map to your inventory. Then just try clicking on it on your inventory.

If adds the map markers to your map, there might be something with your save game file and we could try some ways to fix that.
If it still doesn't add the map markers on this new game, your save game file is probably fine and we might need to look into conflict resolution.

Judging from your screenshot though, there doesn't seem to be any direct conflict with the map record.

This sounds interesting and quite reasonable, giving me another idea for a tiny mod: The requirement to carry a "Map of Skyrim" item with you in order to access the map, it could perhaps be found right at the beginnig of the game inside Helgen Keep.

There used to be a mod like that on the Nexus. Nowadays, it's only on the Steam Workshop as far as I know: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=108553533

      Hi again

I have done some experimenting with your suggestion.

So far, I have made a "prototype" of a mod, which blocks opening the map, without having the map item in your inventory.

      Unfortunately, it has some drawbacks:

      - It will require SKSE.

      - I was unable to use the default map meshes found in game. They do not have any collision. I could add collision to them, but that will cuase incompatibilities/inconsistencies with any texture replacer for the maps. This could be easily fixed, by using a Vanilla scroll mesh.

      - There will be major incompatibilities with any landspace mods, like Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, Bruma, etc. which will all require a seperate patch, but the patches will even be incompatible with each other. I *could* in theory use the GetFormFromFile() function, but I don't have that much experience with it, and it will require a lot more time to look up each mod that adds a new worldspace.

TLDR: It could be done, but will require a lot of work.

I see, thank you very much for looking into my idea at least - if it's too much trouble it's probably not worth the effort. I really liked the idea though.

I've always wondered if there was any purpose for taking that map, as I could not find any use for it. So this is a pretty neat mod, then. I like it :)
