However why is this mod tagged as lore friendly? I might be blind, but I don't see any mentions of these birds in the lore and they don't seem to fit in such climate.

The part that I think makes it 'lore-firendly' is if the climate is possible for them to survive and adapt to. And it's entirely possible, atleast around the Reach in Skyrim. they actually can live in a wide variety of 'cold' climates such as snowy tussles. I think they can adapt to some of the areas within Skyrim.
