I've done a quick retexture of the 4k katana and scabbard in blue to match the blades armor a bit better if anyone wants it message me unless billyro does a retexture in blue himself :)
Love the katana billyro, didn't expect it.
Edit: I updated it with matching scabbard and sent the new version to everyone who has asked for it so far, it's still available if anyone else wants it :)
I think it's funny that most Skyrim katanas are typically 1-handed weapons. Katanas in the real world were almost exclusively two handed swords, in the same weight class as longswords.
Actually, they are much more like arming swords, even the blade lenght. Better compare to messer-like swords or sabres. But exclusively two handed thought.
I just tested this in-game. The sword in your right hand will work with DSR i.e. the right hand sword will appear on your back in its sheath if you set it that way. But it looks like there's no left hand meshes for DSR included. So the left hand sword will be invisible on your back should you choose that option for your left hand sword in DSR. But your character will draw the left hand sword from his or her back and it will appear as normal in their hand. ----------------------------------------- The above is ONLY discussing DSR (Dual Sheath Redux) compatibility, for those who are reading this. The weapon mod itself works absolutely fine and there are NO problems with it. ----------------------------------------- Thank you billyro for this amazing beautiful katana. I'm a HUGE fan of katanas in Skyrim and I'm so glad that there's people like you who make these mods, especially for Legendary edition Skyrim. Thank you again. Also if you can provide left hand meshes for full DSR compatibility, I would greatly appreciate it.
EDIT: I uploaded some poorly made screenshots. I'm currently in the process of rebuilding my modded skyrim so lighting is not fully modded out yet (was having issues today). I will upload more once I'm complete.
I've managed to make a DSR patch for this mod which includes all three versions of the weapon. I will only submit the patch to the author, billyro himself, if he wishes to distribute it with the other files for this mod in the download section, otherwise I am not going to make the patch public.
Same thoughts here. I'd be more favorably predisposed towards katanas in Skyrim if there were more evidence of Akaviri culture being passed down through the years. Right now, the Blades have used katanas for centuries without any changes to the weapon despite it existing in a world where nobody else has used katanas for a very long time. It doesn't even make sense for someone to know how to make a katana anymore at that point, not to mention that katanas were a product of Japan's culture, low iron ore quality, and isolated nature of warfare.
I can suspend disbelief to a certain point and say it's possible Akavir had those necessary conditions for the development of the katana, but the notion that it would then survive unchanged in service of the Blades for many centuries in a region where katanas otherwise don't even exist, is rather stretching it. Real cultures not as isolated as Japan evolved their weapons constantly to meet the current demands. Europe went from one handed arming swords to longswords and rapiers, and then to sabers, all within ~300 years. India and the Middle East, now known for curved swords, initially used straight swords similar to the Roman spatha.
There's also the fact that the katana is a two handed weapon, while every katana in TES Oblivion and Skyrim is used in one hand. Elder Scrolls people must have some godly forearm strength.
Not to be a fun-ruiner, but there is no historical basis for the ninjato ever existing in feudal Japan, at least not as a dedicated "ninja weapon". Not that they can't exist in Skyrim, of course, but in terms of historical accuracy a ninjato would be an anachronism.
