You make no mention about needing any DLC's anywhere. Does the mod need DB or any of the other DLC's? If so, please state it in the description. :)

Ah it originally don't requires any DLC, but since the check for Black books, it now requires Dragonborn DLC, I've added that requirement.

      Thanks

Having an issue where the mod doesn't appear to be doing anything. I'm on a new game, have not gained any skill points yet, and I have Alternate Skill Books loaded last. I'm using the Alternate Life mod, and started as an apprentice at the College of Winterhold. When I read the book in Faralda's room for Destruction magic, I get a full skill point as per vanilla. It's literally the first skill point I end up getting. I've tried reloading the save, re-installing the mod, and picking it up and then dropping it before reading (I also have a mod to pick up books instead of reading them). The only thought at this point that I can think of is that I have the mod World Dawn, which does have features that affect skill experience gain (depending on attributes). I'd rather not delete that as I was looking forward to it for this run.

    Any ideas? Thank you

This is a pretty simple mod that just changes the original in game skill book.

What's the name of the book that you found in Faralda's room? It might be a new one added by another mod instead of the original ones.

The name is "The Art of War Magic II". I found (so far) 4 other books that all give a skill point in the College. If that's not an original, perhaps the others aren't? Now that you mention it, I also have Immersive College of Winterhold. It's description doesn't mention new books, but it wouldn't surprise me if it had some.

Do you know an easy to find original book that I could test with?

Yah, that's not an original book, you can see the name of all the original in game skill books on the wiki:
      https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Skill_Book_(Skyrim)

An easy way to test them is just to use console
      prid player
      additem 0001AFEE 1

0001AFEE is the formId of one of the original destruction skill book, you can find any others on the wiki too.

Before I saw your most recent message I found an original book in the College, and it worked as intended (I assume; I got the message that my skill would grow faster, but it doesn't appear in the list of magic effects). So thank you!

I guess it's not terrible to get extra magic skill points since I'm playing a mage.

I would Really, Very much like to see a SSE port of this mod.

I know your time is as limited as everyone's.
So if you get a chance it would be super! :)

I couldn't get this mod working but then I realized that I had to drop my skill books on the ground first and read them like that, apparently it doesn't work for books that are already in your inventory/storage. I had previously been using the "Improved Skill Books" mod that lets you pick up skill books without reading them. Might wanna add this to your description in case other people have the same problem as me?

I really love the Idea behind this and this mod is highly underrated.
Is there a way to get this mod working in SSE?

Will I get the exp boost if I already read a skill point book? Or will the mod "reset" and make every book gain the boost again.

You will not gain the boost unless you read the book with the mod installed. So just grab that skill book again and read it to get the boost.

Awesome idea! I am looking forward to it. The number of times I've accidentally picked up a book and gained my point when I could have done it by casting a spell twice is annoying!

How does this work with the Dragonborn perk that doubles your skill point gain from skill books?

Seconding this. I might use it but would like to know how interaction works here.

I actually didn't taken that into consideration, thanks for brining it up. Will have to think of some way to balance it and make an update soon.

This is just a suggestion, but I'd make them increase xp gain by 10% each by default, then making the perk up it to 20%.

Although tbh it's a bit op either way, but that's just me.

Added effect for the Dragonborn skill book perk, see mod description page for details.

I'll try this out immediately. It always felt a bit ridiculous, sending my sneak archer down into a dungeon, "oh hey, there's a book", and BOOM, skill increase in a skill she never uses. Messes up one's levelling, too. Fixing the problem in this way is a brilliant idea, so thanks for sharing this mod.
