Would you consider making the Homonculi a product of the player's alchemy skill? Like perhaps a special alchemy table where for a certain amount of time your own homonculus is "Cooking" so when you return it's in potion form until you either drop it or use it.
OOOOH! That's a great idea. Maybe you create one alchemically like the Oblivion elemental forge? You know with the candles and all? I forgot so much. It's been centuries since the Oblivion Crisis, but it seems like a good idea.
