This patch was created due to the disappearance of phinix's patch. You'll find that this patch has gone over each and every single edit to make sure it is exactly how it should be as a mod. ^_^

    Enjoy!

Don't forget to give kudos/endorsements to your favorite mod authors and their mods :)

Note: this file is standalone. Do not use any other versions of Bird & Flocks together with it.

Will this work on SSE as is or does it need to be updated or ported?

Thank you for patching this up. I wanted to try these mods for a long time, but the stories about corrupted saves and people being taken by birds put me off. It's nice to know is safe to use now.

    Thank you for this!!

Was getting Random CTD's and horrible stuttering with original mod. Restarted from beginning 4 times trying to track down the culprit!

All of that wen't away with your version. Great Job!

STEP should really link to your version instead of the original.

Hold on, STEP still recommends the original? Don't get me wrong, I 100% appreciate the author's original work. The concept and effort put in were on point, just not the final execution. Plenty of mods out there with stray edits caused by just clicking around the render window to move around in the CK. It's that very reason why TES5Edit became a must-have tool among modders and many mods suddenly found themselves in "dangerous mod lists". This is why I'm hesitant whenever I see, "recommended mods", from anyone. I know for a fact they aren't usually going the extra mile to inspect the esp for errors before recommending it. It'll get the recommendation at face value despite possibly causing an issue. This is why I want to see a Skyrim Mod Reviewer on Youtube that's also a modder, who can elaborate on these things during a recommendation (I've thought about doing this myself). *end of rant*

If you'd like to suggest this mod to STEP, I'd be all for it. My bird patches were finding themselves on GEMS before the site stopped updating.

I thought STEP was abandoned long ago? Last time I looked, it was horribly out of date.

I don't understand why anyone is renaming the esp. Just uninstall the old version of Birds and Flocks, and then install this one.

You can tell it's working because 99% of the bird instances are still there, but your game isn't crashing or bugged in the process.

I wasn't using (the old) Birds and Flocks to compare the birds instances with.
      Working tools: MO2, LOOT on a i7, 16BG, GTX1070 8GB, SSDs, blahblahblah.
Again, I simply can't tell on my 27” 2560x1440 resolution that your mod is 'loaded' or 'working' as intended.
My Skyrim world is not more birdy-full.

It's very subtle in how it works. You'll notice more birds flying away in many many areas. More bats will fly away from you when disturbed in dungeons. Like Birds of Skyrim, this mod also adds flying birds to a few areas as well. It's hard to notice directly because it only uses vanilla assets, but that's also what's nice about. It just increases ambiance as the player explores the environment. If you want the complete "Bird Experience" for Skyrim, I highly recommend using this mod with Birds of Skyrim + my patch for it, as well as skyBirds.

I thank you for your prompt answer and insight, I shall follow your advice right now.
Will report back if I'm still alive ;-)
      Surf's up, dude.

EDIT: I'm back, covered with birds' s**t (grin)
Took me a while to return from Bruma and for the birds to hatch.
Now, my Skyrim is birdy-full. Surf's up.
      Thanks again.

The original mod had somewhere around 100 bad edits even in the "cleaned" version. Around 70 were Identical to Master Records. Cleaning them with TES5Edit created about half a dozen errors that needed manually resolved using Birds and Flocks SSE as a guide. Some bird instances were placed in areas where Hearthfire houses were to be built, and would break the construction process. Those were removed. Edits were made to vanilla assets which served no purpose (stray edits caused by just randomly clicking in the render window). Those were removed. My version of Birds and Flocks will not cause CTD's or mod conflicts. Do not use any form of the original or else you will defeat the entire purpose of these fixes. I uploaded this to support the community, and so the community could enjoy dovahbane's work without any of the problems that plagued it in the past. In the future, I plan on possibly expanding upon what this mod does.

It's the exact same mod basically, except that it's 100% clean down to every single last edit, guaranteed! No errors and no stray edits. Make sure to un-install the original mod, and just use the esp from this one. I might just decide to add to this mod in the future, so keep a look out for updates in the future!

    Hello and many thanks, man.

I just started a new playthrough (about 25 hours) and in my load order is the old Phinix patch. It's safe to change the name of your .esp to "Birds" and overwrite Phinix's? I comment that because Phinix's name is "Birds" and yours is BirdsHFclean" and I don't want to ruin my save or start the game again. But I prefer to load your patch, I have seen quite a few changes in your .esp compared to Phinix in TES5Edit.

    Thanks a lot again.
