About this mod

Removes vanilla imagespace modifiers (IMODs) that might have become stuck in an always-on state. This can clear up lingering visual effects, such as permanent night vision, radial blurs, etc. Uses a BAT file.

Erase Imagespace Modifiers

Sometimes Skyrim uses visual effects to add impact to actions or events that occur in game. These effects are called Imagespace Modifiers or IMODs. Examples of these may be changes in color or contrast, like in night vision, or radial blurs to simulate reduced or focused fields of vision. Sadly, sometimes the scripts that are meant to remove temporary effects don't fire correctly. This can result in a permanent distortion that can only be disabled using console commands.

With over 200 possible effects in vanilla Skyrim and the DLCs, it can be difficult to determine which modifier is hanging around in your game. As a result, the most common solution for these issues is the use of a console command that disables display of all IMODs, the sisme 0 command. Unfortunately, that also prevents any new modifiers from taking effect: if you've gotten stuck with a radial blur and want to use night vision, the sisme command will block both of them.

Erase Imagespace Modifiers provides an alternative approach. The provided BAT file can be used to quickly and easily remove all vanilla IMODs from your active display. This method allows all IMODs to be triggered in the future as needed, so it doesn't block your access to useful modifiers like alternate vision forms.

USAGE

Install the mod as normal using your favorite mod manager that supports fomod installers, or by extracting one of the included erase-imods.txt files to your Skyrim/ folder. Load the game and enter the console using the ~ key. Enter this command and Erase Imagespace Modifiers will work it's magic:

bat erase-imods

THINGS TO KNOW

The fomod installer will allow you to select one of several versions of the BAT file. Each version matches a different possible load order of the three Skyrim DLCs. If you use a BAT file that does not match your DLC load order, then the IMODs will have unexpected form IDs in your game. That will prevent the BAT file from erasing them from your active display. So, make sure you're using the right file for your DLC load order. If you change your DLC load order later, you'll need to reinstall this mod to get the newly appropriate BAT file.

The BAT file will erase all currently active vanilla IMODs from your display. If you had some that were beneficial (for example, night vision), you will need to reapply those after running the BAT file.

If you have used the sisme 0 command in your current game session to hide effects, you may want to use sisme 1 to display them before using the BAT file. You know, so you can see that there is a difference afterwards.

FAQ

Q) The BAT file ran, but I still have a lingering visual effect. What happened?
A) The visual effect you're seeing is likely based in a mod. Unfortunately, because form ID numbers of effects will differ based on each player's load order, Erase Imagespace Modifiers does not support mods at this time. It can remove effects based in vanilla Skyrim, Dawnguard, or Dragonborn only.

You can still use the sisme 0 console command to disable display of all effects, or you can look up the form ID numbers of effects added by your mods in TES5Edit and run each through the rimod [formid] console command as used in the BAT file. The effects are in the "Image Space Adapter" category in TES5Edit.

Q) What about Hearthfires?
A) Hearthfires does not add any IMODs, so there's nothing to remove there. As far as Erase Imagespace Modifiers is concerned, the only impact of Hearthfires is how it affects the placement of Dragonborn and Dawnguard in your load order.

Q) I don't have [insert name] DLC. Can I still use this?
A) Yes, just choose an installer option that matches your DLC load order while excluding any missing DLC from the bottom of the load order. For example, if you only have Dawnguard, then you could choose any option in the installer that places Dawnguard at the [02] position of your load order.

SPECIAL THANKS

PERMISSIONS

My expectation is that Erase Imagespace Modifiers is complete, possibly barring correction of any typos. My providing of support will likely be limited to such and only on the Nexus site.

You may freely translate, redistribute, etc., this mod. Just give me credit for the time I spent compiling the list of form ids and testing by linking to the original distribution page on the Nexus.

Regarding Skyrim Special Edition
I have no plans to port Erase Imagespace Modifiers to Skyrim Special Edition at this time. My current PC doesn't meet the requirements to run Special Edition, so I can't test it. That said, it should work fine unless the IMODs have different form ids or new IMODs were added. If you want to port Erase Imagespace Modifiers to Skyrim Special Edition, go ahead. Drop a link in the Posts section and I'll include it in the description somewhere if I see it.
