I removed the NPC record and it left errors. I removed all the errors and the mod stopped working. I see the NPC referenced as "listener" and may be needed for lock smashing sound detection. I am using the mod in it's default state except I extracted the BSA for VR compatibility.
Eh kinda sucks to be able to use only axes and maces to break open but it makes sense. Make an optional Sword option? Cuz one could use sword hilt to try break open.
Probably the reason is actually because swords are not heavy weapons, and they have the highest dps in the game so why wouldn't you use them? Pretty sure it's a small balance attempt.
I've discovered that Really Simple Lock Smash is incompatible with Dev Aveza Airship. With both mods active you cannot exit the Dev Aveza Airship. When you try to exit it, you get a HUD message which says "Someone is blocking your path" and the hatch exit door teleport fails.
Do you have any advice on how to make them compatible?

They can be killed using the killall command.
My solution from this: remove this mod's Non-Player Character (Actor) in TES5Edit.
Any blunt weapon can break the mechanism altogether.
The only reason swords might seem off is the absence of the proper animation.
It all depends on how much suspension of disbelief you are willing to go for.
I mean, it is unimmersive for the Dragonborn to be unable to Thu'um & smash through locks.
