Can someone maybe point me in the direction of a tutorial on how to use the unassigned modifier keys for other options? I don't understand the controlmap.txt keyboard IDs.
When I try to assign them to a different mod, it only reads the LB button. I want to assign more options to the empty hotkeys/actions.
I can't open the pause menu at all and holding down the Modifier Key (LB) just opens the Tween Menu, I can't put away my weapons at all even if I hold down the Modifier Key (LB), and I can't unbind or rebind any of my keys because I can't open the pause menu. What's going on?
If my mod does not work as intended right away, this is usually due to YOUR GAME not my mod.
When you play Skyrim and change the control scheme with-in the game SKYRIM creates a personalize and custom file which is usually the root cause of most problems related to this mod.
Here is a FIX; Go to your SKYRIM ROOT folder look for a file named custom_controllermap.txt. [This is located where ever you installed your game]. Simply if the file is there, delete it. This is the cause of your button conflicts.
I don't know if you're working on this project still or if you dropped it ... I am no coder by any stretch of the imagination but I do I have a pretty good idea for how to better your mod , I like the concept of it but how it was put into practice was uhm... to put it delicately ... hard to manage. I think instead of removing the functions of certain buttons it could be a cool idea if you just listed the buttons and they're function that skyrim has hidden and left uncustomizable like the D-pad keys and their function which I think would REALLY be a huge improvement. Because who needs like 4 buttons to use the favourites menu?! Smh Bethesda are some clowns sometimes.
TL;DR Don't remove the keys or functions just add the D-Pad to the menu so people can customize those keys.
I see where you are coming from but from the 20 hrs. I put into test my mod, I came to the realization that the skyrim engine will CTD if you leave out or change certain keys. This hindered what keys I could change.
I myself and not a coder. Unfortunately, I dont know much of it at all hence why I cannot do scripts nor dll files.
Been having a little trouble getting this mod to work properly.... I first had trouble getting sprint to work after I tried moving it to LS which lead me to uninstall the game and reinstall. But now I have issues with Ready Weapon button as it seems to stick to my X button whether I'm holding LB or not. I want to move it to LB+A but it will NOT change no matter how many times I mess with the ControlMap.txt. Also having issues with my dodge when I set it to B it likes to dodge when trying to sneak with LB+B as it causes me to dodge right after going into sneak and again when I get out of sneak...
Remapping buttons is a little more complicated in skyrim than simple changing text withint the controller map file. Skyrim is stupid sometimes and crashes if it doesn't like your button selection. So the best advised I can give you is edit the text file and keep trying until you get it. It took me weeks to get this correctly so good luck.
Hey buddy, sorry for the late response, I have been away for quite a while. Just go into the controlmap.txt file and look for the line that states POV. Then simply delete the third or forth line that is associated with the controller only.
*Rage post deleted* In case anyone else runs into the same problem I did, here's a recap of what happened: After uninstalling this mod (both through Vortex and manually, following the instructions by the letter), the game kept my Start/Back buttons bound to what this mod switches them to, meaning I couldn't pause the game with my controller (and therefore, couldn't re-bind them because I couldn't pause). I first tried unplugging my controller and pausing with the keyboard, but then my controller wasn't recognized when I plugged it back in, so I still couldn't bind commands for it. I eventually found a work-around where I un-checked and then re-checked the "X-box Controller" option using the mouse/keyboard, and after that I was able to navigate the settings/controls with my controller and get things back in order.
It seems simple in hindsight, but it was a very frustrating ordeal for someone who isn't very tech-savvy. I would encourage the mod author to add more detailed instructions for installation/un-installation. I hope this doesn't come across as overly-critical or insulting; I don't mean it to be so. I know you worked hard on this mod, and based on the comments it seems to work fine for most people so it's obviously a piece of good work. It just didn't work out for me.
Sorry for the late response, I have been away and no longer play the SLE version of Skyrim. Glad you figured it out. Normally this doesn;t cause this type of issues and nor should it since it only replaces one text file. Next time make sure that your Skyrim did not create a "custom controllermap.txt" file in the root of your skyrim game. If it did delete it. I am sorry, I am sure this isn't the answer you wanted but this is the best, I can give you without diving deep into the details and plain I simply dont want to right now.
Hello man. First of all, thanks for the amazing mod!
I do have a question, sorry if it is an idiotic one :) : How do i assign the hotkeys to my favorited items? The up and down keys navigate through the favorites and the other ones doesn't seem to work there. What am i missing? I'm playing using the hotkeys i assigned with the keyboard and they work! I just can't change them with the controller. Thanks in advance!
Hey thanks for trying my mod. I am glad to hear you like it. So here is the deal. I am going to be assuming you are using the alternative version and not the revise version.
Because this mod is a simple controller code reassignment and does not rely on any scripts I am limited to certain aspects. While you are able to use all 8 hotkeys, you will only be able to reprogram/set the first 1-4 hotkeys with in the game using the D-Pad. This is because of Skyrim's controller limitations. Not much I can do there. However there is a couple ways around this.
1. If you are using using SkyUI you will see that once you favorite an items you can press on the one of the thump sticks to place it in one of the eight hotkey slots. 2. The other way is to use this new mod that just came out which so happens to go perfectly with my set up. Its called Gamepad PLUS PLUS (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/98375). It will actually give you an MCM menu.
This mod is supposed to have an MCM, right? After leaving my game running (not on pause) for a while and waiting a few in-game hours, I still don't have an MCM for this mod or Souls Quick (and I will be asking about that on the Souls page as well).
SkyUI, Dual Wield Parrying, TK Dodge, and Souls Quick Menu are the only mods I'm using from the recommended list, in case that matters. Sorry if this has already been addressed in the description or comments, but I read through both and couldn't find an answer. As it is, I can't find a way to assign anything to the hotkeys.
~Edit: I installed CCKM *after* installing the other mods, which I assume is the correct way to do it. And I installed them all through Vortex.
~2nd Edit: I can still use the hotkeys #1 and #2 if they were assigned before I installed this mod by pressing up/down on the D-pad. In case that's relevant to figuring this out. If there's any more information I can provide, please let me know
Addressing your questions in the order you presented them....
1. No, this mod does not have a MCM. It is a simple reconfiguration of the original controllermap file found within the Data/Interface/Controller folder.
2. Any of the mods being SkyUI, Dual Wild Parrying, TK Dodge or Soul Quick Menu are suggestions and recommendations but non are hard requirements nor even required at all.
3. There is no specific way to install this mod. Simply install it before or after any other mod. It does not contain a esp nor scripts and does not require you to run LOOT.
4. Depending on which version you chose you will have access to hotkeys 1-8 but only 1-4 are actually configurable. The REVISED version only give you access to hotkey 1-2 (Up and Down on D-Pad) while the alternative give you access to all eight using the D-Pad. If you play a controller and have a keypad attachment then you WILL have access to all the hotkeys regardless of which version you installed.

You can download either of the main version and use whatever mod that you want.
