Thanks for checking out my mod! Let me know what you think about it, or if you encounter any bugs!
Update v1.1: The shout is now unlocked as it is given to the player, no need for dragon souls. The first word of the shout now toggles between allowing followers to help in duels or not. The default is to not allow help.
Update v1.2: Odd fist fight behavior (like running to grab weapons, only to not use them) has been fixed. It may take a few seconds for the target to decide to unequip their weapon. Also added a desperation system to fist fights. Depending on the target's base confidence, a health threshold is implemented. Once they pass this threshold, they gain a chance to ignore that they are in a fist fight and draw their weapons on you (proportional to their health percent)
Update v1.3: Unconscious enemies can be looted. A fleeing system has been added. Once the enemy health passes a certain threshold (dependent on confidence), they gain a chance to flee combat that is proportional to how much health they have left. You can chase a fleeing target and hit them to knock them out, or allow them to make some space between the two of you, ending the duel. Finally, a sparring system has been implemented. Activate friends or strong targets and you can choose to talk to them or spar. If you spar, you'll find that the system works mostly the same as dueling, only this time there are no hard feelings or risks of death. Oh yeah, I also stopped the switching to unarmed delay the npcs were having
Update v1.31: Sparring now requires the player to have the challenge shout equipped for the prompt to appear
Update v1.4: Removed SKSE dependency, made some minor bug fixes
Update v1.41: Removed vestigial edit that might cause compatibility issues
Update v1.5: Fixed looping bow unequip bug (complication due to removing the SKSE requirement)
Update v1.52: Adds the ability to toggle whether or not to allow killing essentials. This is handled through using the second word of the shout. Also cuts off the duel if you or the opponent pass through a load screen. This prevents any bugs that might come from an NPC fleeing into a building.
Update v1.53: Challenging while using magic will no longer be interpreted as unarmed combat.
I love the concept of this mod! Typically it works really well and is a ton of fun, but for some reason it misbehaves with factions, at least the Thieves Guild.
Whenever I try to spar with one of them (Brynjolf, Vex, and Delvin are some that I've tried with) it says that I've attacked a member of the TG once they draw their weapon. If I beat them before they can draw, everything's fine. But the moment they try to actually spar it damages my relations without me even attacking them. Whether sparring or an actual challenge, the result is the same. Any ideas what might be happening? I've tried isolating this specific mod but nothing changes.
The game doesn’t really have a concept of a “friendly” fight outside of whatever exceptions are made for brawls. It’s very possible that whatever is sending the “kick out of faction” trigger for the Thieves Guild doesn’t respect the methods this mod uses to place you in a context where you can have a one-on-one battle. Or alternatively, I may have made some kind of oversight. Wouldn’t put it past me five years ago, haha.
Your best bet is probably to avoid sparring with these folks if you notice issues. There may not be an easy fix, or something you can do in-game to correct it.
If there was a problem with the sparring quest continuing past when it should (and thus keeping you essential), using the console to manually stop the quest should solve the problem.
I tweaked it so that if draw your weapons it cancels the combat (and removed changes to relatioship rank), pretty fun in college of winterwold (immersive college of winterhold) to spar with students and teachers and feel the true strength of the college :p; got murdered a few times...
Hello we really need a spell to like a power type, to access setting rather than " shout the dam setting" I'm spending nearly upto 5 or more min trying to shout at bish maven, by the time I've got it right again she's walked off and shout didn't work because she entered a building,,, Its really frustrating constantly shouting to access setting once again because you hit the shout key or held to long >_<
Lmao. Sorry but it has to run its course. It'll slow down when you've tried just about every mod that tickles your fancy and then you realize that not every mod is worth the trouble.
This mod right here tho checks the boxes that I use before installing any mod. Especially since the author has continued support and bugsmashing. So u can grab this one no worries
If you have Inconsequential NPC's installed, THIS MOD IS A MUST.
Now when those Foreign Envoys in the Blue Palace start dragging your girl Elisif... or when they bully the poor Town Crier who just wants to defend Elisif's honor but has no hope of fighting a heavily armed-and-armored diplomat from gods know where... or when that random Altmer starts spouting about how they're the superior race...
You kill them as the gods intended them to die: armed, face to face with the Dragonborn, and terrified for their lives.
Have you ensured that you have the challenge shout selected? If so, you are only able to spar with characters that have a good relationship with you or are notably strong (>200 hp).
Also having issues trying to get the menu to show up with my followers. It just goes straight to conversations. I have the challenge shout selected and they have over 600 hp. Other than that, the rest of the mod works perfectly.
EDIT: Seems like it only doesn't work on my immediate followers. The prompt shows for other friendly NPCs. I'm assuming it's also an incompatibility issue with EFF since I'm using it to have multiple followers.
You can’t spar with active followers, as doing so... breaks things. If you’d like the spar prompt to appear, ensure that you’ve first dismissed them. You can then ask them to rejoin you when you’ve finished.

... just because this keeps happening to me.
Doomed by all these daedra.

So much possibility.
