Okay so there are two versions currently: The main version and the script version.
The mod works by changing the default Ghost Script's behavior from dropping solid items, to dropping only Ectoplasm. Bethesda made the functionality originally, but made the script's default value False instead of True. So I just change it to True instead.
The main mod version changes the script on an NPC by NPC basis. Since I'm editing an NPC though, this has compatibility issues with mods that change those NPCs.
The script version is more compatible as I recompiled the script with True as the default instead. This is actually the version I recommend that everyone uses, I just kept the other so you have a choice.
so... the year is 2019... and i discovered something funny about this mod... apparently if you also use Death Alternative and get blacked out by a ghost he will steal your stuff and create the quest to retrieve your stuff. BUT the way this mod work the ghost will not drop your stolen gear making the quest unfinishable.
not complaing i am actually find it really funny that i forgot i was using this mod. literally thinked myself when the gear wasnt there... "yea... ghosts dont drop item you silly..."
First of all, thank you, shingokui2002, for making this mod. I really appreciate the work you put into it. Having ghosts drop only ectoplasm makes so much more sense to me than the vanilla drops.
However, this mod does make Halldir's Staff unobtainable. At least, that is my experience with the script version. I don't know about the main version. I wouldn't have done anything with the staff but sell it, but people who are into collecting all unique items might want to know.
I don't know if there are other unique items dropped by ghosts which might be affected. I wonder about the scimitars from the Deathbrand quest, but I'm not likely to be hitting Solstheim anytime soon to check. I also suspect the Drainheart weapons from Labyrinthian may also become unobtainable, but again, I'm not in a position to check on that in my current playthrough.
I like this mod a lot, and I plan to keep using it. I just thought I'd report this issue. Again, thank you for making the mod.
Load up USLEEP and your mod in xEdit. Check each of your records, and anything missing from the USLEEP column, drag and drop over into your mod. That way you are FORWARDING the records.
Obviously things such as weight, items, this and that are subjective, so it all depends on the modder's vision at the end of the day, but USLEEP generally tend to only do lore friendly changes that make sense.
Now if someone could extend a similar effect to corpses that get disintegrated/gooed in Fallout3/NV, possibly 4, haven't played so I dont know what all happens in 4
That's the way I look at it - if they had 'ghost weapons', they wouldn't be able to harm you. If they can manipulate real weapons while being a ghost, those real weapons should drop when they are 'killed'.
Well I was more emulating the behavior of ghosts from previous Elder Scrolls games. When they died they took everything with them. Plus upon death, they are literally a pile of goo, unlike a once living corpse which has the items right there for you to take.
Well, the term is loosely "ethereal". They are able to warp in and out of our plane, there is lore based on it I read in Oblivion years ago... That's why nothing else but silver/magic items could harm them, again, lore-based. Skyrim took a slightly different approach. The weapons are often ethereal as well, and, as shingouki2002 mentioned, depart with them when they are vanquished.
if you really want realism...well there wouldn't even be any ghosts....and if there were.... then Ectoplasm is a living tissue substance ...so that wouldn't be left behind either... not to mention how does one kill something that isn't even solid substance in the first place... also not to mention... they are already dead...so the whole thing is fantasy anyway isn't it?...not that I mind if they drop anything at all or everything in the book..it's just game play
woodsmn: Several mods already tackle this, and whilst it is fantasy, fantasy has its own made-up rules. Such as only silver/magic weapons being able to damage them, etc. What I was trying to get at is that it doesn't make sense for SOLID objects to be dropped by the ethereal being.
shingouki2002: That's what I was referring to! Shouldn't you make the gold removal default, and make the optional retain the gold, for those who are greedy?

Hopefully that helps.

So for me it just makes more sense like this.
Nice bit of immersion right here. Might I suggest they drop nothing else but their ectoplasm?
It doesn't make sense for ghosts to drop gold, considering their ethereal state.
Great mod either way, always thought it was funny that you could strip an ethereal being naked.
They also can hit you, but they only drop Ectoplasm. Seems lore friendly to return the behavior as it was.
