VIGILANT. An amazing quest mod made by Vicn, requiring the player to join the Vigilants of Stendarr and help them keep Skyrim safe from the influence of malevolent forces ... and then a certain Daedric Prince takes a very personal interest in the newest member of the Vigilants.

Up until some time ago, you could play this mod only partially translated into English. But you waited and eventually, an English translation was complete. Something was still missing, though.

All the characters were silent.

But now ... we have a solution for you. The mod before you is an English voice acting addon for Vigilant, brought to you by 23 incredibly talented voice actors and the author of the latest English translation. Every single character you will meet during your journey as a Vigilant of Stendarr is now voiced and waiting to talk to you.

We hope you will enjoy this addon.

Our addon is now available for the Special Edition of Skyrim as well!

VIGILANT Voiced - Special Edition

Video showcase/review by Shinji72:

Q: Is this a full mod?
A: No. This is just sound files and a translated .esp  and patch file. You still need the original Vigilant mod for all the meshes, textures, etc.

Q: Do I need a separate translation file for this?
A: No. The latest English .esp file is included. You only need the original Vigilant mod and its requirements.

Q: Can I use this with any other translation (Chinese, German ...)?
A: As of version 2.0, this addon is no longer compatible with any other translation but English. This does not mean
your game will crash if you do use another translation - you will simply get a few lines in English if you play
with subtitles enabled. This happens because the new Vigilant Voiced.esp patch which fixes the annoying jumping
between custom and vanilla voices also rebuilds merchant and follower functionality and therefore needed to add
   some lines.
You can still use the old 1.5 version which is compatible with everything (but does have NPCs jumping between
custom voiced dialogue and generic vanilla greetings and goodbyes). Just overwrite Vigilant.esp with the one
from your chosen translation - this means it's also compatible with any verson of VIGILANT from 1.1.0 on, since
you'll be changing the .esp files anyway (just make sure that the version of your translated Vigilant.esp matches the version of VIGILANT you have installed). Sound files work on any version.

Q: I don't like some of the voices.
A: No one says you have to. And that's not a question. In any case, if you really hate the voiced version so much, there is a text only English translation available in the Optional Files section.

Q: Why are some characters saying vanilla Skyrim greetings/farewells/combat shouts?
A: As of version 2.0, this is no longer the case - it includes a patch which fixes this (with Vicn's permission).
The old version 1.5 still has that annoyance, which is an unfortunate limitation of Vicn using vanilla voice types
(like MaleBrute, FemaleYoungEager) instead of creating custom ones. Yes, it can be annoying. But it's compatible with
   every other translation.

Q: So what is different about version 2.0 and why I should I update?
A: Version 2.0 is completely reworked from the ground up. It includes a patch (Vigilant Voiced.esp), which changes vanilla
voice types to custom ones. This fixes the NPCs jumping between their custom voices and generic vanilla ones for some
lines - you will now hear only the custom voices. However, this also means that the filepaths for sound files have changed
(name of the voice type corresponds to the folder with sound files) and a reinstall will be needed.
Additionally, the addon now also includes some scripts to make followers and merchants work again (this was tied to vanilla voice types and the inclusion of custom ones broke this, so scripts are absolutely needed to make this work again - don't worry, they are actually very small script fragments which run only when you select a dialogue option leading to follower or merchant service).
The patch also edits audio settings in some scenes to make the NPCs heard loud and clear over all the chaos potentially going on around them (no more flames being louder than Molag Bal - bad flames!). This is all the patch does - it does not do anything that isn't absolutely necessary to make this version the best it can be.

Q: I'm desperately stuck in-game and really need some help.
A: While this isn't directly related to voiced addon, I am in the process of creating a guide for VIGILANT. It's taking a rather stupidly long time, thanks to the annoying combination of work, summer storms and other events dragging me away from computer, but it will be done. When? When it's done. You can take a look at the teaser for its cover for now. Cover may still change, though.

There is now a very basic guide in .txt format available in the Optional Files section as well. It's not a full guide, but it will have to suffice until I finish the comprehensive version above.

What you absolutely need, no exceptions whatsoever:

  • latest version of Skyrim + Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLCs (or Legendary Edition)
  • latest version of VIGILANT (1.3.0)

How to install:

  • make sure you meet all the requirements
  • download VIGILANT Voiced - English Addon (main file includes everything you need)
  • install with your mod manager of choice or manually unzip all the files to your Skyrim Data folder
  • let it overwrite existing Vigilant.esp (you need to do this, otherwise you won't get the translated text)
  • activate Vigilant.esp and Vigilant Voiced.esp
  • sort your load order and make sure Vigilant Voiced.esp loads AFTER Vigilant.esp (LOOT should do this automatically)
  • play

If you are upgrading to version 2.0:

  • you need to reinstall the mod -> filepaths for sound files have changed and you'll have duplicate files if you just dump the new version over the already installed one
  • you don't have to start a new game, just uninstall version 1.5 (or older) and install version 2.0 and that's it
  • activate Vigilant.esp and Vigilant Voiced.esp (new patch file in version 2.0)
  • sort your load order and make sure Vigilant Voiced.esp loads AFTER Vigilant.esp (LOOT should do this automatically)
  • play
