In case if anyone finds it too quiet or too loud I could perhaps create a -5 (bit louder) or -15 dB (much quieter) version. Feel free to let me know by replying to this comment.
Hmmm. Gonna track this until I get a chance to jump in some puddles and listen to the noise! My recollection is that you may be on to something. I have my and NPC footsteps pretty low and we are barefoot so maybe that is why it isn't so bad for me. I'll see...
I had those settings set quite low ingame as well, however it seems that these audio files are not controlled by them. This resulted in me having quiet steps apart from when I walked into puddles, hence why I decided to lower these sound files' volume.
I see - might be something to do with the other audio/volume sliders. Thanks either way, I guess However it might still help out others. In fact the reason why I decided to upload my fix here is because I've seen a couple others complaining about it.
