I think i kinda made something like this before but it was kinda intended to be used with the windstad mine mod. The only thing i really did was make a 50 ingot recipe for each metal type. That's only like 10 new recipes and that took me an hour or something. So i really appreciate it for making this mod because i know the pain to make something like this. XD
edit: I made some changes to it myself. Removed the gold coins to gold ingot recipe because it"s a bit too easy to get rich that way. Especially when using mods that increase the gold ingot value higher then 100. Also changed the requirements to get steel to use Coal1 instead of corrundum and i made a conversion recipe for charcoal to coal1 incase you have mods that have recipes that allow you to make charcoal from wood for example. It's 2 chars for 1 coal.
I've found it useful so far. My problem with many other 'meltdown' mods is that they're usually bundled with overhauls or quest mods or they make unwanted changes that conflict with things I did like. This one, however, just simply works.
It doesn't hold your hand and say "Hey, that's enchanted, you can't melt it down" when you're trying to melt the 100 iron daggers you made to level smithing and then enchanted to level enchanting back down because the iron is more useful elsewhere. Sure, there's risks, but the easiest way I've found to avoid accidentally wiping out stuff I care about is not to pick up another ebony sword when I'm carrying one I care about keeping.
I agree - I like being able to smelt almost everything, but don't go for the extensive crafting overhauls. I used to use CCO/CCOR, but it goes too far as an overhaul, so I generally don't use it anymore. Instead, I have a custom mod that I add recipes to as I think I need them. This will help with the smelting recipes since that's usually the main thing I want, plus one or two custom recipes, like making my own linen. This mod is perfect for folk like myself.
My usual recipe for linen is five tundra cotton. If you have a mod that adds wool, I've seen linen recipes using wool as well. I think the mod that adds farm animals like pigs and sheep has that (wool). It's not vanilla, so I normally use tundra cotton. I've seen a linen recipe that uses leather, but that's not very accurate in my opinion.
Yeah, I thought of straw like flax, but promptly forgot about it! Good thing you're on the ball here.
Hmm - looking at wikipedia on flax, it kinda looks more like spiky grass than straw. Maybe flax would be a nice thing to have... break down spiky grass to flax, then make flax in linen or string, and string into rope. String could be gotten from bows, and is a requirement for making a bow. Of course, now we're getting into overhaul territory, which was what we were trying to avoid.
That's one of the fun aspects of modding - it's easy to get carried away.
I didn't think this would be so popular. Because it was you guys inspired me to take a even better look at this. I ended up rebuilding this and 90% or so of the whole things was completely redone. There was about 22 missing recipes I found for deadric, dragon and a couple of other things.
The smelting recipes do not distinguish between base version of the item and self-upgraded/enchanted.
Thus you might easily smelt your self-created "Asskicking Ebony Sword (Legendary)" because it would be smelted as "Ebony Sword". Being at loss of one filled Grand Soul Gem, Ebony Ingot, potions of smithing & enchanting and time. Plus damage to your emotional state ;-)
Info I learned hard way when I tried to do similar mod ... you can avert something of it to check for not-equipped item, maybe also favorite (didn't checked) ... ad I didn't found something for smithed/enchanted. So I kept only arrow smelting recipes plus several silver-ware ...
Well, but that heirloom won't be listed in the smelting menu as "Asskicking Ebony Sword (Legendary)", it will be packed in the bundle of all the recently looted ebony swords ...
So while you have in inventory 2 entries: Asskicking Ebony Sword (Legendary) Ebony Sword (24)
In the smelting menu, there is only one entry to smelt ebony sword to ingots, and that "Asskicking Ebony Sword (Legendary)" will be just one of the "Ebony Sword (25)" ... and you have no idea if it will be first, second, tenth or the last one ...
And with condition to not smelt equipped items the entry to smelt that bundle of ebony swords just won't appear while you have your Asskicking Ebony Sword (Legendary) equipped.
This was actually a part of my mod http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/83486/? in the early planing stages, however it did not really seem to work as part of it as I was developing the other mod.
I removed it but thought people might want to use it.

I love that guy.

So, for keeping it simple, I thank you.
Any suggestions?

Two others I randomly checked were fine (Dwarven armor & Ebony armor). My character has full smithing perks, too. ^^;
Edit: Even stranger, using the mod as-is works with SSE, but not Skyrim Legendary Edition. Anyway, Endorsed!

I cannot be held responsible if your dovahkiin uses too much skooma and throws his/her outfit and heirloom weapon in the pretty fire. :p
