If you run into an invisible wall trying to get to Gaint's Grove then you will need to do "The Cursed Tribe" quest to open the way. It is a vanilla quest for the Orc fort, Largashbur near Riften. Here is a link to a walk through: The Cursed Tribe
The book of Exile
Spoiler:
Show
I have heard tales of a wretched place where the souls of Orcs that die a dishonorable death dwell in torment for all of eternity. They call it Exile.
The Orcs will not talk of this openly. Most just claim ignorance and will call you mad. It took more skooma then one might imagine to get even this bit of the lore. Herein are my findings:
Malacath believes in redemption, but only by one action. If an Orc fears their soul may be damned to Exile, they may enter and redeem their honor by defeating it's guardian. If the Orc fails this test, their soul remains there to toil for eternity unless another comes to Exile and frees them. These souls are known as "Failed Redeemers." The tortured souls who died with dishonor can never be freed and are said to burn with a flame hot enough to scorch the ground.
The lore claims the guardian is named Thorc. Apparently this hulk of an Orc disgraced himself by becoming a feared bandit leader. One day his band of pillagers looted an entire town and Thorc decided to kill all seventeen innocent villagers by tying them up and setting them on fire.
He and his thugs immediately became the most hunted group of murderers in all the holds. Thorc eventually had to kill all of them as they turned on him to collect the massive reward offered for his head.
Thorc tried to hide, but all the Jarl's had decided he must be found and brought to justice and the reward grew tenfold. He kept to the woods and caves until he found an old solitary Orc who told him the legend of Exile and possible redemption. Thorc had never paid heed to Malacath or the honor of the Orcs, but now; with all the holds after him, he had no other choice.
He made his way into Exile and passed the trials to get to the guardian, but Malacath himself was there to pass final judgement. Malacath smited Thorc with seventeen mighty blows. One for each of the dishonorable murders he had committed. Somehow Thorc survived and Malacath offered him a place in Exile as it's guardian.
He now passes final judgement in the name of Malacath with a massive fiery hammer that is said to be imbued with the same seventeen smites he himself had to withstand.
So now, on to how one might find Exile if one is insane enough to believe in it!
It seems that in order to gain entrance an offering must be brought to a statue of Malacath. The only one I am aware of in Skyrim is deep in Giant's Grove. This offering is not something one might simply purchase from a local vendor, rather it is something that is created with things not of this world.
Of the few Orcs that had loose enough lips to divulge this forbidden lore, only one even hinted at the nature of this elusive offering.
I chuckle as I chronicle my findings at how much superstition goes along with this mythical place.
First, you need to write down all that you know about Exile. This is supposed to show your belief that such a place even exists. This book should serve just fine for that purpose!
The next step is to bring the writing near ore deposits that are close to Orc strongholds. Apparently some force from Exile has a link to Nirn through the ore and will manifest itself as an entity.( I believe these ore deposits could be outside the forts or maybe even inside a nearby mine. )
Each stronghold can manifest only one entity. If you manage to kill it, you must keep anything you find with you and move on to the next stronghold. As I write this, Skyrim has only four strongholds.
Dushnikh Yal, Largashbur, Mor Khazgur and Narzulbur.
I am told that you will find the secret to the offering if you find and kill enough of these entities.
I will only conclude by telling you that I never have had the courage to carry a copy of this book anywhere near an Orc stronghold or any ore deposit for that matter, but it does make for a good story.
The strongholds hints:
Dushnikh Yal

I'm really tempted to selfport this to SE for my own playthrough, but I'm planning to play a Bosmer… Would you consider it worth playing/would it make sense as something other than an Orc?
I did my best to make the mod playable for all classes. Race has never really been too important in Skyrim (as far as end game character power) and nothing in the mod is dependent on it. It's just my interpretation of a place that could exist in Orcish lore. Self porting will not be hard. There are quite a few nif files and texture files for the unique npcs. Other than that, it's all Vanilla assets. Just don't forget to export npc data when you convert the esp.
Im interesting in doing this myself. What did you mean by export npc data? I've only self ported one or two mods by using sse nif optimizer and then saving in CK. Didn't say do anything else for them.
Hi! First of all I would like to say thanks for the immersive mod. Seeking the Guardians and crafting new weapon was like a little adventure itself. And the more challenging part for my battle mage appeared the crater of Exile. After killing some scorpions I found a forge, a closed mines entrance, and a statue that wants me to bring him 5 pieces of something. Now, I stuck cause all the pieces I found, I've already used in the forge. And no more enemies around, so I can't get the new ones. Any help? Please?
You should not be able to make anything at the forge until you get a pickaxe to mine ore. You get a pickaxe when you have 5 scorpion hearts and bring them to the statue. If you somehow were able to mine the ore before that than you will need to use the console to give yourself the 5 scorpion hearts. There are 3 scorpions in the open area and 2 inside the the dark tunnel near the forge. Let me know if you need any more help.
I think you may be at the next part after what I put in the spoiler where you need to create an item at the forge to bring to the statue.
Well, I decided to do everything in the right order so restarted the mod.
What about the forge, I really could'nt craft anything there except arrows of Exile :) This time found all pieces needed (big thanks for the hint!)
Yet I've got another problem concerning a key to the mines.

I gathered five details, crafted the key and returned to the first crater location, thinking that it would fit to the mines'door up at the bridge. But it doesn't. Is there another door player needs to find or just a bug?
After you gather the scorpion hearts and bring them to the statue, there will be a lever to open that gate and a pickaxe at the base of the now smaller statue so you can mine the ore. The 2 mine doors that you can get to in the starting area are actually something you will gain access to later on. It's a tease, I know. The second area has another statue far in the back and it will demand you craft the gem of perseverance. There are several monsters to defeat to get to the statue and a couple of well hidden areas, but at least you have nice place to go to for healing up. Have you made it to the healing area yet?
I also found a valley with five boxes, a fragment of the key inside each of these, and crafted the key of Exile. Then I returned to the first location through teleport, thinking I could open mine doors you've mentioned. The point is, the key doesn't unlock these doors.
I totally forgot about that door, thanks for the help :)
After an epic fight with final boss, I must say that your mod is real hardcore, and I love it!
Just one more technical question:

After defeating the champion, Malakath statue told me that all the curses should disappear. But my mana still does'nt regenerate even when I'm back in Skyrim.
For the spoiler, are you using version 1.6? This has only happened to one other player that I know of and I changed it in 1.6, but here's the answer:

Get in third person and open the console with the tilde key ~ target yourself then type help "crater's brain rot" 4 and hit enter. It will give you a number for the spell. Type removespell ######### (the #'s are what the help command gave you for Crater's Brain Rot) and hit enter. This should fix it.
Hi Asaforg, I'm loving your mods so far. I'm currently using Requiem 3.0.1 that's a part of the Ultimate Skyrim modlist. Should I install the Crater of Exile version 1.6 for Requiem 3.1.1 or should I stick with the Requiem 2.0 version? Thanks for all your work!
What would be the recommended level for Requiem players? Also lvl 60 (which would mean rather high perks)? I don't hope so, cannot remember one playthrough where I got so high a level. And as I never level Alchemy, could the seemingly advisable perk from the tree be replaced by some other means?
It could be done at an earlier level if you have enough health. The mod focuses on Orcs who typically have more health than other races. My suggestion is to give it a try, but keep a save before you enter Exile in case it's too difficult to survive. You will understand why the regen perk is recommended once you go in.
appreciate your reponse, but im still confused. Any Daedric forge you mean? I'm standing right next to forge, trying to look at the recipe and it's still in Daedric. Is this possibly another mod conflict?
I killed all 4 guardian stone enemies at the 4 orcish strongholds. I have the crater ore. I have the Exile book I have the recipe for the exile offering (in daedric) still not sure how to translate the recipe so i can create the offering.
Open any regular forge crafting menu, look for the "Hammer of Redemption" and you will see what is needed to make it. It is a warhammer so you can sort by weapon type.
The way I learned how to mod is building the file from scratch. I've not tried to create a BSA yet. I do understand why BSA's can be better when a mod changes something from the Vanilla game, but this is a new world space and anything I used in it has it's own file and does not overwrite any Vanilla files.
