I think he means he'd like a paper map for skyrim that is not in 3D, to which I would fully agree. Please make a 2D paper map for Skyrim and surely you will be king of kings.
Seconded. Thirded? In any case, yeah. The effort that went into designing a three dimensinal overlay for a 2D paper map is commendable, but ultimately it's little more then a display of skill. I'd also like to see a proper flat map for the rest of Skyrim.
It's nothing of the sort Gunrunner. I know it seems counter-intuitive, but the 3D map is actually easier to do. The way the map in Skyrim works, making the mesh flat would result in all location markers (including the player marker) still having the same z-axis position as before, meaning they would appear to be floating above or below the map. You can alter the coordinates of the location markers to lock them to a flat plane, but that would break discovery of them while exploring, as discovery of locations is done by proximity to the location markers placed in the gameworld.
I'm sure somebody could come up with a solution given enough time, but unfortunately that's beyond me.
IcePenguin, the author of A Quality World Map recently released a "flat" paper map. Mu it's not 2D, he just locked the camera and zoomed out - which doesn't work for me (buggy) and you can tell it's 3D (also the map markers mess up as the map kind of floats above the original map. Ir's weird - anyways, would be cool if you could make an actual 2D map viewed from above - how difficult hat may be I don't know, I'm guessing difficult.
That is indeed counterintuitive, and most curious as well. I've done some topo work (Second Life land design), and as far as I can tell it's common practice to design the layout in 2d, then build up into 3d. Bethesda definatly took the long way around. Thanks for the explanation. Couple things make more sense now.
Interesting. I'll look at releasing a flat version of each of my maps (and perhaps of Warburg's paper map, if he's okay with that) made to work with that plugin.
Modified all of my maps with Flat Map Markers as a base, paving the way for future releases. You can find them here: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/84734
Thank you. As for compatibility with IcePenguin's map; I haven't tested them together personally, but it's very likely it won't work properly. My mod depends on the specific changes made by Warburg's Paper World Map plugin, and unless IcePenguin implemented his paper map in a very similar way there are likely to be significant visual oddities and other unintended behavior.
Not exactly dead. I have the art nearly done for a number of maps, I just ran into a very annoying issue with larger worldspaces (such as Summerset Isle) which is impeding progress. I know it can be surmounted, but I'm not sure how. I'm still working on cracking it whenever I feel the motivation to.
Thank you so much for your various paper map addons, they really help make the game feel just a little bit closer to Morrowind again. Btw, I'm converting these to SSE as well for private use, will let you know if it works out. Anyway, endorsed <3
Any chance of getting a Summerset Isle paper map in the same style? It's the only thing missing
A thousand thanks, sahib. The Sol issue with Warburg's map was not a dealkiller by any strech, but it pleases me to no end thay there's still folks around who belive strongly enough that Things Should Work to do something about it. Thanks again =)
Just play tested it for a couple hours and everything is lining up well as far as points of interest. Great attention to detail and beautiful map! Thanks again for doing this and for the heads up.

Great work on the current set of four!
