Ragnar's Retreat 1.1 Changes - Ragnar's Retreat was one of my very first mods, and there's a great deal I've learned since releasing it. As such I've gone back over it to upgrade, improve, and fix several issues or things I simply could have done better.

SUMMARY - a number of bug fixes, a minor quest change, and a few upgrades and decor additions. BEFORE UPDATING see the final note!

    Changes:
    - Changed requirements for Treasury; it now only requires resolving the Thieves' Guild traitor--quest name Blindsighted--rather than finishing all TG side quests.

    Additions/Upgrades:
    - Updated alchemy/enchanting tower: raised ceiling and changed ceiling model to make it less claustrophobic, added decorative foliage, added several Hearthfire planter plots on the bottom floor
    - Exchanged exterior farm plots with real Hearthfires planter plots, so you can plant whatever you like there
    - Added small amount of wall decor into followers' room (Companions' Armory)
    - Added smoke & ventilation to the smelter
    - Added clutter and shelf decor to Bard's College library wing (SEE BELOW--you will need to remove books from some shelves BEFORE updating)
    - Added small amounts of decoration (plants & ivy) to home exterior
    - Added mannequin, two dagger display cases and two weapon plaques to Dark Brotherhood basement. Switched out the chair for one that clashed less with the decor there. Shifted the "office" around a little.
    - Added tiny amount of decor & one bookshelf to Dawnguard Safehouse
    - Added a couple hanging chains, one mannequin & two weapon plaques to Dawnguard Vampire Lair
    - Added a small amount of additional clutter and decor throughout the house, along with a couple extra weapon plaques at the front door

    Bug Fixes:
    - Fixed three rugs clipping into the ground, one in the Companions' Armory, one in the kitchen, and one in the childrens' room
    - Added navmesh to all mannequins to prevent them from wandering
    - Added additional Elder Scroll: Dragon display script to check for the DLC version of this Scroll as well as the base game (they have two separate IDs). KNOWN ISSUE: this will throw two error messages--one for each script that checks your inventory--or one even if you have a scroll. This is intentional. The scripts will still store/give back the scroll.
    - Closed a small gap on a wall-ceiling corner

FINAL NOTE: BEFORE UPDATING, REMOVE ANY BOOKS FROM THE FOLLOWING SHELVES IN THE BARD'S LIBRARY:
    - Upstairs, second on right, middle shelf (facing into the room from the stairs)
    - Upstairs, second on left, top shelf (facing into the room from the stairs)
    - Downstairs, fourth from the door on the right (facing in from the main building)--aka 2nd from fireplace to the right--top shelf
    - Downstairs, middle shelf on bookshelf left from fireplace (facing fireplace)

These books may be retrievable, if you updated without removing them, by noclipping behind the bard's college wall. I moved the markers, rather than deleting them outright. To noclip, open menu (PC default tilde ~) then type TCL. Escape to close console. Clip through wall, pick up books if applicable, then go back inside, repeat to remove noclip. Always make a backup save before updating so you can roll back if needed.

Lost a kid/spouse? To note for those who have lost kids/spouses in this house--I just had this bug myself (at level ~50, so it isn't frequent) and finally found out what you folks meant by an "unfinished home." I have absolutely no idea what caused this or how it's possible but, good news, it is quite possible to retrieve your wayward family.

How to fix: If your spouse/child isn't at home when they should be in bed, you'll need their reference (not base) ID. To get that you need to click on them in console. The easiest way to do this is to SAVE YOUR GAME while in the home, then load an older save (or start a new game) and find them ingame before you married/adopted them. Open console, click on them, note down or take a screenshot of ID (not baseID, both show on the right side when they are selected), and then load up your current save with them still selected. As long as you don't exit game, opening console should still have them selected. You can type "moveto player" (no quotation marks) and it should bring them to you. Alternatively, if they are no longer selected, type "PRID XXXXXXXX" (no quotation marks) with the ID in places of X's, and then "moveto player." Alternatively if you want to see where they've gone first, you can type player.moveto XXXXXXXX (again with ID in place of X's). You can then fast-travel back to Ragnar's Retreat and type the moveto command to return them home. If you try to leave the home just after doing this and it says Solitude on the door, head out and fast-travel to the home and it'll put you in the right "phase."

More info: For some reason, this 'version' seems to exist on an unfinished landscape where--if you then go inside--the home is yours with all your stored items and decor, but then the front door leads back to "Solitude" (except it isn't Solitude at all). NPCs are still visible outside--the dragon that was out there for me was still out there in the "Solitude" version. But the landscape and house are totally different. Whether this is some weird Skyrim bug or a mod conflict or data corruption in the mod .esp I have no idea, but it doesn't cause lasting harm, even if the console command use is annoying. (Sorry about that!)

    This looks fantastic!'
Most homes with more than two children's beds are quite noble and thus immersion-breaking for lower-level characters. This one, however, is a perfect starter home. Would you consider making a SE version of this mod?

Well, I tried to use the Bless Home spell from HMA but it says "This is not one of my homes". According to TMPhoenix that happens when the house is missing the LocTypePlayerHouse location reference type. Idk if that's the issue here, I'm not a modder myself. I'm just bummed cause I got this home specifically because it was big enough for a couple of kids and now I can't even move them in there.

Going through comments after updating this mod--I'm not sure what the problem here would be. I tested it myself a bit ago, for other players considering this home, and it worked fine. I'd assume another mod was interfering.

Doll, could you possibly widen the area around the main bed so both of us can reach our sides of the bed?

So I love the mod.. I really do.. But er.. Why are the mannequins so broken? LIke they get the Wandering and naked bug and its annoying to have to remove all the armor disable and enable everysingle one and then put the armor back on just for it to break on me again

Slamming in here seven years later to say--for other beginner modders who may stumble upon this--that it happens when the mannequin bases are not navmeshed. They are counted as Actors (NPCs) so they wander over to Navmeshed areas to try and find places they think they're "safe" to stand on when the cell is loaded. This is fixed in 1.1.

Hi so I had downloaded it before but it was glitching a lot. I uninstalled the mod and went to fix everything else. My game crashed due to a bad mod that I had downloaded and I had to start everything from scratch. Im back up and running and been adding the mods that I knew for sure weren't the problem.

Today I reinstalled Ragnar's Retreat and I can actually get in and out of the home and not being stuck. I re-read the entire description and now here is where I run into my biggest problem. The quest lines  I have done a couple already, I'm working on some and others I haven't started yet.

I have just finished a the Thieves guild one (Prerequisite Quest: "Under New Management" / TGLeadership) but I can't get the option from Delvin Mallory (The Ragged Flagon, Riften) Cost: 5000 Gold.  &

Prerequisite Quest: "The Battle for Solitude" / "The Battle for Windhelm" /  CWSiegeObj
    NPC: Mralki (Frostfruit Inn, Rorikstead)
     done figured this one out....

how do I fix this or am I missing something ?

Also working on the college one right now, hoping that this will go more smoothly.

I really want to use this mod since its now finally letting me do so. Help be appreciated thanks!

I have done the college one, dawnguard, jarl of whiterun, stormcloaks, bards college and Sheograth! The thieves guild was the first one I finished after stormcloaks....
but still can't get Delvin Mallory (The Ragged Flagon, Riften) Cost: 5000 Gold.   There is no dialog for when clicking on him. Need someone to please help me figure it out. I have done unistalled and reinstalled the mod 2x, seeing if that would fix it. But no!!!

Super late, but you have to finish all the TG sidequests. I'd been intending to change this for awhile now and not gotten around to it--I'll see if I can at some point, just so you need to finish the actual quest with the Eye of Falmer etc! (LATE edit for other viewers - 2024 update has changed this requirement)

I love his mod, he makes me play the game in a more complete way, but having to do all the quests in the guild of thieves makes my game a bit annoying, I hate those quests, it's 25 doses of desperation .. I wish I had a way to skip this part.

If I update this mod, at any point, I will likely roll back the requirement for TG (to just past the big statue battle quest--no spoilers for those who somehow haven't played) and also perhaps change the requirement for the Bard's College to be farther along. After play it did seem unfair that you have to do all those stupid radiant quests. Honestly I used to just use console commands to bypass them; they're the worst, most grindy design.

Not sure what is bugging this mod for me, but the door lists as "test Tony" and I can't use bless homes while inside.. I don't use any mods that impact anything outside armor and character features.. gonna try to reinstall this fresh in MO

I'm having this same issue, as well as a couple of missing assets on the exterior. Mod works fine otherwise from what I can tell (bought from mralki, interior is fine, bless homes works). It's really disturbing to have the door labelled as such as well as the ENTIRE FRONT DECK MISSING.

Edit: Popped open TES5Edit and found this conflicts with Chesko's "The Art of the Catch". Make sure you load this AFTER

Please place this mod lower down in the load order if you are seeing "TestTony." This is a cell that Bethesda uses for testing. If there's conflicts, my mod's cell may show as this (I'm unsure why) so just plonk it lower in the loading order and it should fix it. I'm sorry for the very late reply but--... It actually took me this long to figure this out.

I love the two first screenshots from above, I'm putting it in my load order.

I will endorse, I always do even if I do not keep the mods, as a mark of respect for people who make mods.

But I will keep this one :-)

Firstly, I would like to compliment you on a great concept.

However, I'm not sure if I'm missing something obvious or not but, I've just installed this mod at L87 and can't buy any upgrades. It's been a while since I played so I'm not too sure how far I am through most of the quests, but I know for definite that I've completed the arch mage quests and after purchasing the house, I get no option to buy anything from the innkeeper at Rorikstead.

I understand and recognise that this house was built by you, for you. But as a point of feedback there are a couple of things that I think will be a deal breaker for me.

The main one being unable to display my artifacts until after completing the thief quests. My character is a good girl and has no interest in breaking any laws, she will therefore not be doing the thieves quests...... I take this to mean that she will therefore, be unable to "ever" display her artifacts?

Second, Only 4 childrens beds although MHIYH allows for 6. I can take the children off the streets but will then be unable to do the adoption quest. Either that or I have to leave a child cold and starving on the streets of Skyrim......

The lack of planters is NOT a problem as anybody who wishes to add them can use the Craftable Hearthfire Planters mod https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/73449
which is an addon to the Campfire mod

Heya! Please do read the ReadMe, or the mod description; it lists the quest stages you need, and how to check them, and most importantly, -where to buy the upgrades.- You do not buy the majority of upgrades from the innkeeper; the mage's college ones, for example, are purchased from someone at the Mage's College (can't remember who off the top of my head, but it's in the list).

The artifacts are indeed displayed in the Thieves' Guild Vault. There's no real alternative to that; if you have no vault, you'd need to just lay them around or use mannequins. I probably won't be changing this.

With Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions, you -can- adopt a full six kids, but you'll just have the issue of two standing around at night instead of sleeping. There are only four kids' beds, that's also unlikely to change.

Hope this helps; I appreciate the feedback, and the house wasn't just built "for me"--but the idea is a rewards system and it will keep a specific design, so that likely will stay as-is!

First time I walked through the door there were over a dozen white-loinclothed (basically naked) oldish dudes crowded around the door, all with the name 'Planter'. My first reaction was '... ??!!#$@#$#? What? What did I miss? Wait? What?Omgomgomgomgwtf. I don't recall this being in the description and it doesn't even make any /sense/'. Got past them, went to another room, a dozen of the same dudes. Went back out, went back in, and realized th' name was All Homes Remodeled, and so that mod was interfering with the house somehow; so deleted AHR altogether, and no more half naked oldish dudes. Huzzah.

Though I really don't understand how a house mod like that could interfere with yours,-much less glitch out and have a bunch of weird guys appear-but, apparently it did.
Just wanted to share cause it was so odd/hilarious/uncomfortable/not expected. Not putting it in 'bugs' since it doesn't really have to do with bugs or anything in your mod (I think), just I guess AHR interferes with it somehow. O.o

*Other than that ... probably should say thanks for this lovely house; it didn't take forever to download, love the simplicity and 'style', it's quite nice so far-(I'm not even lvl 10 yet and haven't gone past Whiterun much; so haven't seen any quest stuff yet)-and I can't wait to see it become awesome.

Yeah I really don't understand how those two clashed at all; I thought AHR was pretty much strictly to remodel the vanilla houses for more space and to work with the 6 kids mod. Plus RR isn't even a vanilla home nor is it in the vicinity of one ... and for THAT to be the result ...
weirdest Skyrim thing to ever happen to me.
