    Update 27/2/18
Improved Adoptions 3.0 Merged is available.
So what does it do ? Well basically its a merged version that some people have been asking for for a long time. One single ESP. Not modular. Just one plugin. Huzzah. No you don't need to start a new game just replace the original. (If you're using an alternate script from the miscellaneous files section re-download from there)
So what else is new? Well the big one is the Family Campsite. Under the "Powers" menu under spells there is a power to setup a campsite for the use of your family when they're following you (ask your family or child to follow you). Hit the button and if the site is suitable (needs to be flat with no obstructions, about the size of a house footprint). Then you'll get a campsite ready to be used by your family. You can tell them to stay or quit the camp. Children can not be left alone in the wilderness you'll need a Spouse to watch over them or they'll panic and come look for you instead. Use the same power to remove the campsite when in range and when its not in use. You can fast travel to site from any exterior location (will appear on your map).

Other changes are some bug fixes mainly during combat for the no-SKSE versions and their combat AI should be more responsive.
Followers have a custom improved AI package - will now sandbox if the Player remains stationary.

So how do I install it/what version should I choose?!
    1) Make sure family isn't following you.
    2) Remove old version
    3) Choose option: It comes in 3 flavours: regular Hearthfires, Multiple Adoptions and Multiple Adoptions with Last Name (Dovahkiir). Then pick from the following:

SKSE not RS Children - custom / regular horses

RS Children / no SKSE - custom / regular horses

    73844-1519835082-2015270442.jpeg
As above, but without modifications to Hearthfires houses:
    Spoiler:
    Show
SKSE custom horses / no HF houses
    73844-1519835091-665074568.jpeg
SKSE regular horses / no HF houses
    73844-1519839830-503701338.jpeg
RS Children / no SKSE custom horses - no HF houses
    73844-1523330624-1830895006.jpeg
RS Children / no SKSE regular horses - no HF houses
    73844-1519839965-1440148258.jpeg
And lastly if you're using AC3S's Lakeview Extended mod, the rest as above:
    Spoiler:

    73844-1519839990-1607937978.jpeg
    Etc.
    4) Replace any custom/alternate script fixes with the updated versions (Optional)
    5) Install Hypothermia / Campfire patches (Optional - adds IA's campfire to the list of heat sources). You'll find them in the Miscellaneous section. NOTE: beds will NOT warm you if you have Frostfall because Chesko has not given permission to patch it. Sorry.

    "So whats new?"
Bug fixes, improved follower AI. And a dedicated campsite.
"Do I need to start a new game?! I don't want to do that!"
Nope, you should be able to just drop it in over the top. Just make sure you remove any campsite and that your family isn't following you when you do if you do decide to swap/change versions.
"Where do I find the updated scripts?! Things look the same!"
They've already been uploaded. Download again and if your mod manager asks to overwrite choose "YES"
    "What bug fixes?"
Pretty minor, mostly combat AI if you're using the no-SKSE/RS Children compatible version. Should be more responsive.
    "What campsite?"
Just a fire, some tents, and somewhere to sit. Its removable/portable.
"How do I get the campsite option?! Its not showing up!"
Powers menu. Ask your family to follow you and it should show up if it hasn't already.
"The campsite refuses to set up!"
It requires a flat area with no obstructions about the size of breezehome's footprint.
"How do I get the family to camp at the site?"
Make sure they're at the site then tell them you want to make camp.
"How do I remove the campsite?"
The same way you created it via the Powers menu. Tell your family to quit camp first.
"Do I need to craft a camping kit/collect wood etc?"
Nope, its just a simple setup/remove camp. I decided against anything more.
"I can walk right through tents etc! What gives?"
To stop NPC's getting stuck/blocked as navmeshes cannot be dynamically modified.
"Wheres the Lakeview Extended house? Nothing is showing up!"
You NEED to have AC3S's Lakeview Extended mod installed as well. This mod does NOT include it.
"Do I have to use this version? I like the modular version instead is there one with the Campsite included?
No you don't have to use it and there is Campsite version in the pipeline.
"The campsite is stuck! How the fook do I get rid of it!? I've already told my family to quit."
This is a bug that can occur sometimes. Head indoors, crouch/sneak, hit the Campsite button there should be an option to force remove the campsite.
"Campfire / Hypothermia patches refuse to install! NMM/Vortex/MO reports an error!"
You MUST have Campfire / Hypothermia installed AND active in your load order (and Improved Adoptions Merged). It will not install without it (thats deliberate the game wouldn't start otherwise)
"The game won't start! Whats going on?! I have Campfire/Hyporthemia patches."
You MUST have Campfire/Hypothermia installed if patch is enabled. Patches require their master.

Any bugs/problems report them in the Bugs section - hit the button and post there stating exactly what version you're using and what if any optional fixes you're using. Thanks.

    Update 03/5/17
Added Multiple Adoptions - Last Name version. Thanks to yuk75 for reporting the omission.

    Update 01/3/17
Alrighty, to celebrate reaching 1000 endorsements and no bugs having been reported I'm making 2.0 the official release as of now. Previous versions can still be found in the Old Versions section if required. Enjoy!

    Update 09/2/17
Improved Adoptions 2.0 BETA is available in the Optional files section.

This is for testing. All being well it'll become the main download.
Any bugs/problems report them in the Bugs section - hit the button and post there stating exactly what version you're using and what if any optional fixes you're using. Thanks.

    "So whats new?"
    Bug fixes. And horses.
"Do I need to start a new game?! I don't want to do that!"
Nope, you should be able to just drop it in on an existing save. Remove earlier mod version first!
    "What bug fixes?"
Pretty minor, dog not returning to DLC house if Steward recruited as a follower, followers bumping into the player upon fast travelling. Made spouses Essential when a follower as its possible for them to die if attacked by family dog when commanded by Spriggan etc. Maybe one or two others I can't remember right now.
    "What horses?"
Family followers will now ride horses if the Player mounts a horse. When the player gets off a horse, they'll do so too.
    "Dude, wheres my horse?!"
Theyr'e for family followers only. You'll still have to get your own (thats intentional)
"Can my regular followers have a horse too?"
I could do that but it'd likely conflict with just about every follower horse mod out there. I left it out so you can still use your regular horses-for-followers mods without issue.
"Can I use x,y,z horse mod to manage the horses?"
'fraid not. At least you shouldn't as it would likely mess with them too much.
"But I don't want horses! I preferred the old version without them!"
Thats still available if you want it. Just choose that option when installing (bug fixes are included)
"I don't need horses getting in my way during a fight!"
They're all set to cowardly by default so will run away at the first sign of a fight. They're also invunerable so you won't have to worry about baby sitting them.
"I don't like insta-horses! I want proper stables! And a quest to acquire them!"
Maybe in the future. I'm not really interested in any of that right now. Horses for followers are hard enough to get working reliably (the game engine is bugged up to the hilt with them and i'm tired of dealing with it)
"My follower on horseback has disappeared/horse has frozen/can walk right through it!"
Sigh. Those engine bugs again. Dismount/mount your horse, failing that fast travel somewhere else. That should make them show up again.
    "Wheres the SSE version?!"
When SKSE64 supports it. Its not possible right now (lack of script functions)
"Is it still compatible with No Courier, Smart Spouse etc alternate scripts?"
Yup! You don't even need to reinstall those fixes either.

(n.b. I'll take a look at Open Cities sometime, looks like a lot of work though theres no easy fix there.)

    Update: 3/1/17
Happy New Year! I'm working on a significant update that lets family followers ride on horses. Yes, they'll no longer trail way behind on shank's pony if you're on horseback. Its completely self contained and won't require any other mods. Its pretty far advanced just need one last hurdle to overcome as well as some of the remaining glitches sorted out or at least neutered. Sneak preview:
    http://imgur.com/a/yyXCC
It requires SKSE though so no SSE version, for now. (If anyone knows a non-SKSE alternative to GetID() - Alias I'd love to hear about it.)

Magic Kingdom posted this in the comments thread. I thought it interesting enough to comment here:

"I would love a version that allows me to take the kids on a shopping spree. Or just go for a walk together. Is any of that possible?"

While I'm not sure about any of that (the third is particular is not possible afaik) but something I would like is to be be able to take them on a picnic. Basically it'd be like Chesko's campfire system except instead of a campfire it'd be a picnic spread. Its possible I'd say but since I literally have no idea how Campfire works and its probably rather complicated lets just say its an idea thats far out there in the long grass, for now.

    Update: 14/11/16
I'll take a look into getting this converted to SSE just as soon as TMPhoenix's Multiple Adoptions mod is out of Beta or at least more stable. I'm not keen on spending large amounts of time tracking down bugs that turn out to have nothing to do with this mod.

    Update 17/11/16
Well the conversion went ok easier than the house mods actually as there are no meshes that need modifying. There is however a bug in the CK that means that shared dialogue isn't working correctly i.e. kids don't always speak their lines when moving house. Dialogue is bugged in general in the CK and Bethesda are "looking into it". I'm unsure whether to wait until they fix it or release it anyway, bugs and all.
Yes I'll stick on Bethesda.net for Xbox sometime just as soon TMPhoenix is done and the dialogue issues in general are sorted out, I don't like releasing half working/half finished mods.

    20/11/16
Released updated Alternative versions as earlier ones still had some SKSE script functions in there, replaced with their non-SKSE equivalents. Should now be completely SKSE-free.

Lakeview Extended DLC Houses compatibility version released for those who asked for them!
    Thanks to Ac3s for permissions!
You'll find it in the "miscellaneous" files section

    - Install Improved Adoptions and Lakeview Extended mods FIRST then install the misc file over the top choosing "YES" to overwrite if asked by your mod manager.

if you downloaded the Alternative versions a couple of days ago please download again I've reuploaded due to a couple of issues and removed the requirement for them to have a dagger before raising their confidence. They'll still have to have a dagger equipped for them to engage in combat (they'll run away otherwise)
    -----------------------------------------------------

I'm pleased to say I've discovered a new way of implementing the child combat system in IA Patch which will hopefully make it much more compatible.

This will eliminate the need for SKSE, Essential tags or race modifiers. It will also remove the need for the USLEEP patch.

This means that, with any luck, the incompatiblity issues with RS Children will be gone!

You'll find the new versions under the "Optional" files.

"Which version should I use? Do I need the Old Version as well as the new Optional Version?"

    Just use ONE version only.

"Do I have to start a new game/start on a new save?"

You shouldn't have to just remove the existing version and replace with the new one it should just fit in over the old. You may have to head indoors and save or move home for the game to pick up the changes, thats it.

Apart from the combat overhaul there are a couple of minor tweaks you must give them a proper weapon (dagger) first if they don't have one equipped they'll run away from combat. They'll no longer rush headlong into battle fighting bears and bandits with bare fists or a wooden sword. Ok to sum up:

    PRO'S OF NEW ALTERNATIVE VERSION
    - no SKSE required
    - no Essential tags so should be much more compatible, hopefully with RS children
    - no USLEEP patch needed
    - ought to be compatible with killable kiddie mods

    CON'S OF NEW ALTERNATIVE VERSION
    - combat package instead of "intuitive" AI means they may be a bit slow or sluggish to engage in combat.
    - they may on occasion simply run away despite you telling them otherwise as their alert "radar" picks up enemies  without entering combat on occasion, they should change their mind and join you eventually.

I'm taking this out of Beta as no bug reports have been filed.

n.b. I'll probably come up with a merged version eventually, just as soon as I can face it...

Why don't you announce that your mod returns the children to their vanilla clothes and appearance? You have made me lose like 3 hours and I don't know if it will be solved... how inconsiderate.

I play as a Dark Elf Female, and my two daughters taunt each other with the term "elf ears".  Could you please add the following dialogue tree for elf players.

Dragonborn:  Don't use racial slurs around your Mother/Father especially racial slurs about your Mother/Father.

    Adopted Child:  Yes, Mama/Papa...

Heya, Just wondering is it possible to remove the quest Return of the wanderer? I love the mod but this questline is driving me nuts especially in the middle of another long quest suddenly receiving a note  by a courier telling you to go home every 3 days or thereabouts is maddening. I have even tried removing it  in Xedit but the pesky thing keeps coming back...persistent little nit! If there's nothing that can be done then i'll just have ta uninstall it albeit reluctantly(..sighs..)!
That's enough ranting. Anyways for all its worth, its a great mod otherwise. Thanks mate and cheerio!

I'm also using TKAA Renewal & Wildchild so I should probably ask if this is compatible with that as well

I just need the AI where my wife leaves the house and the kids do stuff, I want to keep the vanilla change house procedure without the horses, camp, and following. Which one should I download kind sir?
