Well actually the vanilla design isn't far off. The main reason some bows have thin limbs is because they are laminated, which improves its strength enabling the bow to withstand the tension. Given this is a basic, non-laminated bow, if you were to pull it back with your design it would likely snap or not be very effective.

jedp15,...Where did you find this information? Have you even held a board bow, a flat bow, or a laminated bow? The new design looks pretty close to a well made board bow although it's limbs could be maybe a 1/4 ' wider where they meet the grip. But that would be nit-picking somebody's very realistic work.

Good looking bow LordBishek. I'd order one if it can be made 58" tip to tip and 50lbs draw weight at 26" draw length. Just don't take too long making it because hunting season starts the end of August.

BullBars1, this new mwsh looks very much like some bows from late Rudder Bows, in style. In fact their successor might have one. =)

It's not a flatbow it's a longbow, if you'd ever held a longbow in your life you'd know the two are completely different, longbows are usually above a 100 pounds, and meant for killing men in armour, not wild animals, they are thick. Just because you have knowledge on modern bows doesn't make you an expert on the matter, medieval warbows and modern bows are two completely different things.

Yeah, the simply wood bow looks like it came straight from 90' games.

Will this mod be ported over to the special edition at any point?

Either whenever I get around to installing it, or if anyone wants to port it, that's cool too as long as the original is credited

Talwick wrote: Nice looking bow, I like the improvement. However the mesh isn't working.

The bow appears to now be invisible, though the animations are unaffected.

LordBishek wrote: That's odd. It works perfectly for me, I checked collision and animation on a completely vanilla (actually freshly installed) version of Skyrim.

I've just headed back into game, deleted all my files and then reinstalled from the download on this page - still works perfectly.

If you have an invisible object, that can be indicative of a texture error.

Are you sure there are no files that conflict with "meshes/weapons/wooden/woodenbow.nif"?

Talwick wrote: I'm not certain. I believe I have a "better shaped weapons" mod that replaces the meshes, however I assumed that your mod would then replace that. The textures should be unaffected though. I'll do some experimenting now that I know it's working for other users.

I do have 241 mods running So it's very likely to be my fault. Thanks for checking on your end though, Bishek.

On the chance that I cannot get it to work without sacrificing another mod, would you be able to create a standalone version perhaps? It's completely up to you though.

LordBishek wrote: I don't want to create another version because to do so would probably lessen compatibility though. I can, however, talk you through the process of how to do it yourself, and if you like, I'm happy to let you release it yourself if you wish. Let me know what you think.

Thanks, but it's alright. I hardly have time, and wouldn't want to take up yours. I'll work something out. Thankyou for the offer though.

And congratulations on getting this mod in the Hot Files too

No worries, although I have to say, I'm not sure making it standalone would help. Since this is a replacer, if it's not working correctly for you, it probably won't even if the other stuff is different. The texture path is the same, so it looks like a mod conflict with your setup. Do you use mod organizer by any chance? You might be able to test  on a normal config if you do.

I didn't know you'd replied as it was not to my comment itself. But thankfully I came back anyway to say:

The mods working. I didn't do anything in particular (apart from a clean-up & removal of some mods), and it just... works. Thanks for the mod Now my in-game wife's habit of switching to a longbow leaves her with something that looks like it works

Great mod. None of the other modders show the longbow any love.
