This mod has been converted and ported to SSE. I will no longer be supporting this LE version of the mod. I will leave it up, however, for those who still do not play the SSE version of Skyrim.
Read the description. As I have written multiple times, the .esp is there for a reason, you cannot make a replacer with only the mesh and textures, unless you want to replace every steel sword in your game.
The reason the .esp is required is due to the fact that the meshes/textures for the Queen Freydis' Sword quest item are buried within the Skyrim - Meshes & Skyrim - Textures BSA files. The .esp tells the game to load & overwrite the files buried within the aforementioned BSA files that came with Skyrim. This is the reason the .esp is required. Merge it with other weapon/armor mods to save the .esp slot, which is highly recommended in an effort for increased performance/increased stability in-game.
It has nothing to do with the bsa. Queen Freydis' sword does not have a unique file path of any kind.
As Carboniac said, unless you want every steel sword to look like this, there's nothing you can simply overwrite. It just points to the vanilla steel sword and renames it the same way a sword you enchanted would be. The esp goes in and tells the game to point to something else and is required because you're redirecting the game completely.
[I actually landed here because I'm trying to manually merge this into another mod and am having trouble finding the CK references to it even]
Long delay here, I could be mistaken, but I believe you misunderstood this guys question as I think he wants the same as I. An ESP is certainly required, as the original sword uses the same mesh as the steel sword, however, this mod's ESP not only lets the sword use a unique mesh, but it also adds a new weapon entirely that is craftable. I think this guy wants an ESP that only gives the new look to the sword and doesn't add in the extra craftable sword.
That would be rather pointless, considering that Freydis' Sword is a quest item that you possess for a few minutes before handing it in as part of the quest after.
However, if someone wishes to keep it as a replacer with no crafting option, simply open up the esp file in TES5Edit or the CK and remove the craftion option. Voila. Should take about 2 minutes to do so, tops.
This mod may be ported to SSE once I even get around to modding that game, which won't be until after the new mod manager is released. Even then, I probably won't even port it do Xbox, since that's beyond of the scope of my modding talents.
However, the original steam mod is still up for grabs unless the author changed his permissions, so it's free for anyone to make an Xbox version.
I'm done with Skyrim till whenever - but, your sword looks awesome. Nice you were able to port it from Steam to here. Since this is supposed to be such an important gift to Ulfric - it certainly deserved to look better. And I'm not even pro-Ulfric.
Thank you =) Yes, I like objects with lore and history attached, it was such a shame that the famed Sword of Queen Freydis is nothing but a dull steel sword. At least this will make the artifact more appealing.
I remember the first time I saw it - I was like "WTF?". Even Ulfric deserves better. It's supposed to be this historic weapon and Bethesda didn't even give it a unique model. For shame.

- In order to craft the sword, you will need the Steel Smithing perk, as well as having become Thane of Eastmarch Hold.
- The .esp is there for a reason. So no, it is not possible to simply make a replacement without the .esp file.
- Yes, it looks more ceremonial than practical. So hang it on your wall and don't complain that it's impractical.
- Yes, the handle clips a little bit with gloves/gauntlets, nothing I can do about that. Works fine in 1st person view.

I'm currently trying to find a good replacer for the Helmet of Winterhold item, but that's easier said than done.
Great icy chillrend style blade, and definitely good wall candy, actually something you could see Ulfric wanting ya know.
Deal with it.
