**The long winded version: look the courier makes a lot more lore friendly since, given that he will find you anywhere with out fail. Also easier to imagine a magician casting a note delivery spell then, THAT SAME DUDE living though the whole game finding you any and everywhere. A magical skeleton makes complete since.
Expanding on this, with a custom voiced actor and a spell deliver note would give it some much needed life.
