The castle in Oblivion was my absolute favorite, I'm very happy to see a trasposition to skyrim! If this was in Cyrodiil (adopting one of the few mods which are recreating skyrim) would've been greater still!
No, im still alive. just have a new username now. Was in the Army back then and had alot of life changes that kept me out the Skyrim modding scene. Since then i cant recover that username, but am on progress to build a new DLC sized mod out of the core of Castle Almgard
Wow!!! I am really looking forward to this DLC sized mod! Castle Almgard is one of the best, if not THE best, castles I have ever seen!! I hope we see this project soon!
I know this mod is pretty much dead and abandoned, but I LOVE Castle Almgard from Oblivion. My favorite castle mod, 2nd in place is Castle Wolfspike...
First off, I want to address my expertise and knowledge into historical medieval castles. I know this is a fantasy game, but if you are to have a functional castle, it needs certain key features in order to be a true castle.
Ignoring all the bugs, such as falling through floors, doors opening into the walls behind them, clipping issues, missing railing textures, there are some key features I did not see in this castle. The first thing I wanted to see was a drawbridge just in front of the main gate. There was none. You could just walk right up to the wall... Then I noticed that you couldn't close the gates, not from outside, nor from the inside of the gatehouse. There is a drawbridge on the side of the castle but it is non functional, and the back door to the castle is unprotected, with just an archway with no gate. The layout of the castle is pretty hectic. In reality, real castles would have a main room and every single part of the castle interior could be accessed from that room, unless you had secret rooms. I've found many rooms where it would be vital for defenders of the castle to get quick access to but had to travel through 3-4 different rooms to get to it. Lastly, and while I know this is gonna be difficult to accomplish, I wish for the entire castle to be in the main Skyrim map, not somewhere way off the side. I love it when I can see a giant castle off in the distance, or come across it in my travels.
Aside from all that, it's a good start. It won't take much to make this castle actually functional, most of the issues are bugs.
Yes, to bad the modpack converion came way to late after skyrim's release as that modders pick it up to build and update structures. Kinda sad if one remembers how many good looking castles we had in Oblivion thanks to it. Lets hope the next elder scrolls gets a good looking castle mesh and texture pack early on.
